Zenit St Petersburg continued their remarkable UEFA Cup run by booking their place in the last eight by ousting Marseille, who were eliminated after a nightmare performance from Cedric Carrasso.

Carrasso, deputising for No 1 Fabien Barthez, fumbled an Alexander Kerzhakov shot to allow Zenit the lead and later saw red for a professional foul on the striker after Frederic Dehu had levelled the score on the night.

Zenit, who won the first leg in France 1-0, duly moved through.

Fair play to Boro but in all honesty for some reason it seems to have become a second rate competition for neutrals and this year without any big name clubs even more so.

Maybe it's age lessening the senses of eagerness and excitement but used to really look forward to watching sportsnight on big European nights as a kid. Now it might be because there is so much football available to watch but does anyone else agree that the games lack atmosphere until the semi's and finals?

Just this year? With so many teams from the top countries it's been going this way for a while. Having a stupid mini league system doesn't help as all it does is replicate the boring bits of the Champions League without the good teams.

Sorry, couldn't understand that sentence, you see, I have trouble with sentences where larrysigny is mentioned and there aren't any spelling misstaikes involved !

Steve Gibson deserves this. He has been loyal to his managers and is a model chairman.:)

A bit sad that probably the greatest night in their football history wasn't seen by a capacity crowd. :confused:

I thought my post title said re the annual Ticket Draw for Champs Lge Final and UEFA Cup Final tickets that anyone can enter on www.uefa.com and do you really think the copy e-mail was ficticious ? :rolleyes:

My stroke of luck was sweet feck all to do with anything BFC full stop FACT

Barca have Valdes, Puyol, Iniesta and Oleguer (though he wouldnt consider himself Spanish (4)
Arsenal have 1 or 2 if Cole and Campbell play
Middlesboro have Riggott, Southgate (if fit), Parnaby, Downing and Andrew Taylor (5)
