Walkers updates

A brilliant effort- well done to all the walkers :)

Walkers updates

Totally agree with everything that's been said.I've only been involved from the sidelines (apart from walking the last mile with 18 month old Gemma) and have been truly humbled today by the sheer grit and determination that's gone on. Well done to everyone who walked even part of it, and a special mention to Claire, Chris and Gazza for finishing- walking for over 24 hours is a truly outstanding feat. Listening to the speeches at the reception was a good reminder what an amazing set of fans we have, and certainly made me feel a bit emotional.
Hope all the walkers manage to sleep ok and don't feel too bad tomorrow.

Walkers updates

I'm in complete awe of the people that finished this walk. Hats off to everyone who started, however far you got, but to those who finished - you are Brentford legends (and put last season's senior pros to shame). Unbelievable - you're the stars!

Walkers updates

Just got out of the bath and not feeling too bad at the moment but have work tomorrow, which may have been slightly optimistic. I would like to echo Claires sentiments and thank her and Chris for their support in seeing me over the finishing line. Myself and Chris were spent after 35 miles but somehow dug in thanks to the brave souls who manned the support vehicles. My utmost respect goes to you guys as we would never have finished without you. I would also like to congratulate all the walkers who took part for being brave enough to put themselves forward for something so challenging. Last and by no means least thanks to Northants Bee, without her time and effort this walk would never have got off the ground :)

Walkers updates

Me, Louzer Jnr and Snappy managed 35 miles (which included an un-scheduled 5 mile de-tour down a dark and abyss-like road) somewhere past Horsham. Once we'd got picked up and told we'd gone the wrong way my gammy ankle was playing up, as were my interepid colleagues' knees/ankles/thighs/calfs and we called it a day.

Top effort from all concerned though and congrats to those who finished. I was in my old man's car yesterday afternoon going past Brentford McDonalds and I saw one of the finishers hobbling across the road - felt very jealous if that makes sense!

Thanks as well to the drivers and support teams - brilliant effort from all.

Being involved made me even prouder to be a Bees fan (if that was possible) and made me realise how empty my Saturdays are now the season has finished!

I'm off around my office now to collect my sponsor money....

We would like to thank the support teams cos if we had not seen the vans we surely would not have got as far as we did. may we thank the guy who gave gayle a pair of socks, cos hers had a hole in, and she wouldn't have got as far either without them. Also many thanks to Peter Gilham, who, made us feel like heroes back at GP, very special man that, even let us into the home teams changing rooms for a shower, which was cold, but welcome, and also gave us free beers in the stripes bar.Was a truly remarkable weekend one that we will remember, for the rest of our lives, especially the A24. Congratulations to everyone who walked, the ones who finished TOTAL RESPECT, people, you are what makes our club special:sorted: :sorted:

A huge well done to all those who finished, all those who took part, and a massive thank you to all the support drivers and everyone else who helped in any way at all. We couldn't have done it without you!

Thank you also to Toe Bee & louzer jnr, it was a pleasure to walk with you and those incessant Simpsons quotes got me through the early hours! :sorted:

I'm gutted that I couldn't finish the walk, and I too am very jealous of those that did, but as many others have said, everything just seemed to stop working one bit at a time until it was nigh on impossible to carry on! That wrong turn we made certainly didn't help! Five Oaks is a lovely place, well from what I could see in the dark at 3am, but I really could've done without that de-tour!

I really had to dig deep to get as far as I did, so massive respect to those who got further and completed the whole thing. One thing's for sure though, I'll definitely be at the next event, whatever it may be...

Walk to Wycombe anyone?

Walkers updates

I must admit, I bailed out at Box Hill after 45 miles..

A very well organised event, thanks to all those involved, especially the support team, who should share in the glory of those finishers.

Thanks also to those who walked with me for awhile...a great spirit at the start was carried through the day !

Terry Butcher was on good form on the Brighton see front....obviously eager to get a string bond with the fans...but is clearly his own man, with his own ideas.

A massive massive thank you and well done. Without all of you this walk would never have happened. There are so many of you who achieved so much, I was about to mention a few 'special' mentions, but each and every one of you who took part in whatever way shape or form are 'special'. I too was very emotional, very proud to be a Bee, but most of all proud to be associtated with all of YOU.

I was personally disapponted that in total i only managed to walk a 1/3 of the distance, but throwing up, having a temp and coming out in a rash were not condusive to attempting to walk 64miles. :( :(

For the record, there will be a brick, in the Bees United Build a Better future wall, donated to each of you who finished and a memento of the ocassion for all who started. I will be in touch with you all soon.

Brilliant effort, Brilliant day, Fantastic Supporters, Special Club.........

Stephen (and Gayle), just wanted to say Thank-you for coming back and helping me out of the road, when I fell over
Utmost respect to you for coming all the way down from Leeds and walking as far as you did.
Will look out for you at an away game next season.

Walkers updates

What an unbelievable weekend. Many, many thanks to Claire and Gaz for helping me make it to the finish, not for one moment did I think I'd make the full distance before we set out, and certainly wouldn't have done had it not been for you two. Thanks also to Brian Burgess who walked the final ten miles with us, just to make sure we finished.

I'll never forget the final mile nor the welcome back to GP, being clapped home by Peter Gilham, the former players, Terry Butcher, fellow fans, friends and family honestly brought tears to our eyes and was a very special moment.

I can honestly say that I've never been prouder to be a Bees fan, Natasha and I really weren't sure how successful this walk would be when we first set about organising it, but it was a truely momentous occasion which I could never have thought would be so well supported nor go so well.

A massive thankyou to all those who were prepared to lay their bodies on the line and attempt this walk, you are absolute legends. especially all who finished, I hope all those who attempted it feel extremely proud of themselves this morning.

A special mention to Peter Maynard, who despite having a broken bone in this foot managed to complete the whole walk and also to Dean Spurdens who somehow managed 40 miles with a broken big toe - unbelievable guts the pair of you.

Also a massive thankyou to the support teams, without your constant help and encouragement, I doubt anyone would have walked as far as they did, you were absolutely brilliant from start to finish.

What a truly amazing experience that was. I finished about 16.30 some 22 and a half hours after starting. Although we done this walk for the club it came down to a battle with yourself to get yourself to the end. It was mentaly tough as well as physically.

I met a guy on the walk called Terry and together we helped each other to the finish line. I wasn't going to give up if he wasn't and vice verca. In my mind the goal was the M25. If we made that then we were on the 'home straight'. In truth we were still some 6 hours from the end at that point but we didn't think about that. The M25 was a good phycological hurdle we had to jump.

The worst part for me was the A24 stretch. It went on and on for ever. By the time I reached it I was very cold and in a lot of pain. I decided what I wanted was a cup of hot tea but there was nowhere to get one. Not until Box Hill car park where there is a cafe, anyway. Trouble was when I eventually got there it was still closed. It was about this point that I had met Terry and we both waited in the car park, along with a group of bikers, for the tea man to open up. He was due to open at 07.30. We had arrived about 07.20. The doors finally opened at about 07.50. That was a very long, very cold and getting increasingly stiff 30 minutes. Our will was being tested to the limit.

But the tea was very welcome and it gave us both a boost to push on towards the M25. However, again this stretch just never seemed to come to an end. The further and more uphill we went the further away the motorway seemed to get, not that we could see or hear it but I always had a mental image that it was just round the next bend, which it never was.

We then had another break when we thought we had got lost. I say break but the key to having a break is not to sit for long. Just 2 or 3 minutes and then get up again other wise the legs start to go night nights. After speaking to THE most popular and friendly newsagent in Britain he told us that we were in fact on course and the roads were just badly marked. Maybe 30 minutes later, we crossed the M25. It was at this point that I made a couple of phone calls and declared that everything was right with the world and that we were virtually home.

Oh dear.

We came to a bench between Oxschot and Esher and sat down. At this point every step was painful for both of us. We were both just drinking water because the thought of having anything else with sugar in it made us feel sick. There is only so much Lucozade and wine gums you can consume. Here we decided that the best way forward was to pick a land mark that was not to far ahead, maybe 2 or 3 miles, and focus on reaching that and that we would finish the rest of the walk doing this.

This method saw us through to Hampton Court where we did somehow miss the entrance to Bushy park. We realised quite soon but the thought of walking back was to much so we pressed on knowing we would rejoin the route about 2 or 3 miles ahead. However when we let the support drivers know what we had done they kindly picked us up and dropped us back the same distance through the park we had walked the wrong way.

It was just after this that we met three other Bees who were doing the walk from Bushy park and they stuck with us for the last miles home. I'm afraid I probably wasn't the best of company at this point as walking was effort enough for me. But they were great and really helped take our minds off the effort we were having to put in to keep going.

So with the help of our fellow Bees and even though my legs weren't under my full control any more we eventualy crossed Kew bridge into Brentford. We were told that Terry Butcher was going to walk back from Kew bridge with us but we just could not stand and wait so we pressed on towards the finish line. It was great when Peter Gilham and the ex players came and met us in Ealing Road and we got a good reception back at GP. We had done it!

I missed the presentation by Terry Butcher because I went home (I live in New Road) to shower but as soon as I took my shoes off it was clear that I wasn't going anywhere for a while.

I am a bit stiff today and my feet are a bit battered but I will live. A truly amazing experience. Thanks to the organisers and the support teams who done a great job.

hi Missmarple....i missed the presentation too.after completing the walk,my wife picked me up with every intention of dropping me back. After a bath,i couldnt move and collapsed into bed.Waiting for the Bear pub in Echer was my killer point...it took for ages..i was on the verge of giving up then i must admit.

Great message Miss Marple - and I can empathise with most of it! I walked with Terry right from the start, and with you for about 15 miles in the middle, and am really chuffed that we managed to plod all the way back to Griffin Park!

We were together in what was the toughest part for me. The coldest and darkest hours in the middle of the night, about 11.30 PM in Horsham to 3.30 AM in Ockley. There wasn't much conversation at this point, but just you and the others being around was great companionship. The guy with the powerful head torch was very important too - apart from when his light picked up the spider which had spun its web between my head and yours and was catching insects in the middle!

After finally getting to Ockley, and with it getting a bit lighter, I felt more encouraged, and was able to press on a bit quicker, partly in order to warm up a bit. I teamed up with Ian Gilding in Oxshott, and with a few supporters, we elbowed through the Twickenham rugby traffic, and eventually dragged ourselves to Griffin Park at 1.15 PM.

I wasn't around for the homecoming reception event either. I went home, had a hot bath, Sunday roast, and then fell asleep on the sofa - bliss!

Thanks and congratulations to everyone who was involved in the event, especially Natasha, Chris and Ian, all of the drivers, and all of the sponsors.

Tom Lloyd.

How about next year walking to the start in Brighton?;)

What a pity that the bbc website have shown themselves to be lazy journalists by changing the tense on the original piece they did on the walk and re issuing it to signify it was completed. at the very least I would have thought it should have justified a pic of the finishers. They deserved it!!!

bad bbc:nono: :nono: :nono:

.......The coldest and darkest hours in the middle of the night, about 11.30 PM in Horsham to 3.30 AM in Ockley........

This stretch was an absolute killer. We were much further behind than you so didn't make Ockley until 6ish I don't think, but I distinctly remember signs saying "Welcome to Ockley" feeling as though we'd reached our next landmark then a mile later seeing a sign saying "Ockley 3 Miles" and feeling totally disheartened. I personally never want to see Ockley again !!

My son Aidan is in Brighton today with the school, knowing him he might be walking home.;)

Did anyone do a PJ? ie: Buy some new boots, never wear them before the day and then attempt to walk 65 miles. PJ done this for the Walk to Wycombe.

Well done all.:sorted:

 Oh yes.......

And how long did it take to get my first blister ?.......one f***ing mile, that's all.

I could tell you what I said to myself as I stuck a blister plaster on it at one of the support vehicles but I think the mods may object.....:D

I managed to get it reasonably comfortable then didn't dare take my sock or trainer off again in case I made it worse. Finally removed it (virtually via surgical procedure) at 10:00pm on Sunday evening......the smell was so bad that I think I burnt off my eyebrows.....lol

Come on now tell the truth, you also put half a pair of Party Feet (the gel pads girlies wear in their stilletoes) to ease the pain. Fortuantely it did. :D :D
