I always support the teams or players that play against any home nation except england, its normal isnt it? I want all scottish, welsh and N Irish teams and tennis players to always lose.

Well I don't have strong feelings about Murray, but having turned on as Gasquet served at 5-4 in the third set, I have to say that it was an incredible effort by Murray and he played some unbelievable tennis. Not sure he wouldn't have been blown away by a Nadal or a Federer, but he's got some heart to come back from that position.

I switched on at exactly the same time and thought it was easily over. Brilliant tennis especially that shot to win the set. Gasquet clearly lost it, but both players had their fair share of unforced errors to lose an easy point. Couldn't really understand Gasquet moaning about the crowd, I'm sure he wouldn't have said a word if they were cheering for him at the French Open.
It won't matter if Nadal wipes the floor with him, I think parts of that match will be replayed over and over on rainy Wimbledon days for years to come. Nice to see a British tennis player with some b***ocks and a bit of grunt instead of the usual namby pamby fair play never win garbage usually trotted out.

Can't say I disagree with nick's comments here. Are we English stupid when we inevitably back Scotland, NI, and Wales in sports, when they are openly hostile to us when we are playing any country and they support the other team against us? Surely nothing wrong with nick standing up and saying he supports English contestants, and doesn't support the "other" British ones.

Tennis is an individual sport and apart from the Davis Cup (where we play as Great Britain), no-one is "representing" anyone other than themselves. I guess you either like they guy or you don't. I can't get worked up because when he was 17 years old a journalist got him to say something controversial. And in any case, I'd no more expect him to support England than he'd expect me to support Scotland.

When it comes to team sports, I back England and anyone playing Australia. Apart from that I'm generally neutral or in favour of the underdog or any country with a personal connection (eg when Hermann was a Bee, I wanted Iceland to do well).

Having read David Mellor's column in tonights Evening Standard, it looks as though all the Murray haters who aren't prepared to let go a minor comment about England said in jest while being interviewed alongside Henman when he was 17 have something to think about.

I was a murray hater purely due to the things he was supposed to have said about england, a typical bitter sweaty. A few weeks ago he said that most of it was red top bullsh1t and as I hate those papers more than anything in the world because of the way they can make stuff up and destroy peoples lives without recrimination I decided to give him a chance.

I have to say after that performance the other day he won me over. I thought he was awesome, OK, he wasn't up against federer or nadal but the way he raised his game, got more passionate and stronger by the minute was absolutely spellbinding. If he was scottish, welsh or bloody mexican I would have been caught up in it. I will be supporting him today.

I thought you could have deduced that for yourself, without needing Murray himself to spell it out. My understanding is that he was goaded into making those comments in a press conference, although that may be inaccurate.
