As long as we finish above the ra ra"s and the black n white sh*tes I'll be happy.

What if they were 24th and 23rd position, surely you would want better than 22nd or 21st?

Top 10.
On another point, has anyone seen League 1? Sheff Utd, Coventry and Swindon would seem to be the only 'biggish' clubs in the division. A few in there must fancy their chances this year. Gillingham top. What's going on?

They have a good young Manager with a NoNonsense approach. He was mentioned on here as a potential manager of the Bees when Uwe left I think and before Warbs was offered the job.

Your expectations

Bottom half until Christmas/New Year then gradual improvement and a good run from March onwards taking us to 10th at least. The season will finish too early for us

Agree with the posts above that it remains very difficult to gauge where we are at present, let along how things will develop over the next eight months or so. I will play it safe and say 12th, but it could be much higher and, if things don't bed down successfully, it could be lower.

Surprises * me that many have lowered there expectations despite the glaringly obvious problems we have had .

Injuries
New players
players leaving
new manager
the pitch.

Despite that there have been some good signs and once everything beds down , the new players get adjusted and good players come back from injuries the sqaud will look very different.

* it doesn't

Think most would agree Nick, but we may be well off the pace by then and not in contention. I'm fine with that myself.

Hope we get something out of the 2 tough aways coming up and things could look a lot brighter. 2 losses would make this forum a very miserable read :(

Which will be an interesting debate because of course anything less than a 3-0 defeat at Boro will be an improvement. :)

Hard to say. I'd be so deliriously happy that I might not even notice where Brentford finish. But then I'm a vindictive old git when it comes to those folks in blue and white hoops. Yes, both of them.

I'm still saying top 6 but it'll be a different journey to last season with the best coming later on.

That might make top 2 unlikely if 2-3 clubs stretch out a lead in the first half of the season but if the division is as competitive as last season where, Blackpool aside, everyone could on their day beat everyone else, there will be opportunity until late on. Missing out on promotion but with a team and manager which are continually improving and finishing strongly wouldn't be bad.

Had we gone up last season we'd have had to rebuild far more than even the big upheaval we've just had. I don't think any of the departed players would have been up to the PL this season (as can be evidenced by the fact that none of them have been picked up by PL clubs or even particularly seriously looked at- even Pritchard) and several others would have been questionable (Dean and Tarks would have had a very steep curve to be effective in the PL, Toums also even if he'd carried on as last season rather than how he's been this, could Judge have stepped up?). Even with Warbs at the helm I wonder whether we'd have a happy camp if most of the outfield players weren't going to be regular starters.

So if we've got that out of the way now so that at the end of this season or next we are in the PL we could do it without a wholesale clearout. That's assuming that after a good season in the Championship players like Hoffman, KK, Vibe, Gogia, Colin will have developed to a higher standard than could realistically have been expected of the players who left.

We're going to start getting better around October, so long as confidence isn't knocked massively within the squad. What is evident, is that we are making some steps forward in terms of our performance, and if the defence can stop being so blooming leaky, then we could potentially surge towards play-off positions after Christmas. So much depends on the confidence levels within the squad, and then after that, much will depend on the comings and goings in January. Now the transfer window is shut, let's see what the performances are like in the next 2 months, but I fear that away to Leeds and Middlesborough are going to be very very tough on the lads. Hopefully, we can pick up some points in those games, and then follow up with 2 big wins at home, where our season will kickstart into action properly at that time.

So, nothing less than play-offs please.

I actually expect to lose every game and get relegated, but that's because I'm a miserable get really.

Hope you're right mate but - on the evidence so far - sounds wildly optimistic to me.
My gut feel is this will be a tough season after all the exits & incoming players / general changes. Marinus has been dealt a poor pack of cards, a lot of it pure misfortune and personally if we get anywhere near the top 6 i'd be both surprised and delighted :sorted:

Your expectations

The next 2 games are massive IMO. Leeds have gained some confidence so wont be an easy place to go to. Boro away is never easy as last year showed. I would be over the moon with 4 points but will settle for 2.

I have lowered my expectations to a lower mid table. 12-15

Wouldn't surprise me if we lost both but then went on a decent run.

Your expectations

Think from about December onwards we will start to see what sort of a team we really have. I think we'll languish around mid table until then, but finish strongly as the new set up gains momentum. I'd still be pretty confident of being close to the top 6.

Your expectations

My expectation is that we never again have to have a goal of the month competition that features every goal we scored that month, including one from a friendly and one that was originally given as an OG :-)

Oh yes and one where half of them are not from an ex player!

As hopeful as it is, I don't see why not? No team frightens me, and either we'll lose confidence and play like rubbish, or we'll gain confidence and start to get better and better......
Of course I expect to do badly, but I really think that the second half of the season will be good for us. This division will remain so tight over the course of the season, we will just need to put a good run in once we have a full squad.

Your expectations

Ahh, the old what ifs..... Well, as long as we don't get relegated (because I think we are going to have a tougher season this season) I'll still want us to finish above those two.

Your expectations

The league is weaker this season and we'll become stronger as the season goes on. Think top 10 is a realistic target

Your expectations

Weaker? I think it's much stronger.

Look at the last 3-4 seasons. Ok to average starts and then in November BOOM we have lift off.

I'm convinced our November form has been out of this world in recent times although don't have the stats to back it up (not a stats dig!).

Same again this season with a Friday night home win at the end of October being the catalyst.

the club did put some stuff out at the end of November last year about our recent November form and i think you're very much right - the last three have been fantastic

I think it's time to scrap this moneyball stats bollox. Get back to proper football. That's what we did last season and it did us ok.

I reckon Benham has made this change to get our promotion challenge back on track, not because he fears relegation.

Do you really believe this current group will be shooting up the table anytime soon? By the time the squad are all fit we will be miles away form the top six.

I do , win tomorrow we will be midtable 5 points off 6th. We have players to come back and if we get to mid Jan within 10 points of the play offs who knows !

Yes. We did this with some players signed using the moneyball stats bollox

I really hope so. When MW took over we need stability and got it, hopefully this has the same effect again. Because I fear turmoil will be fatal this season.

Yeah, why do we need to sign players like Jota and Odubajo with all the "Moneyball stats bollox"?
Lets get back to buying Murray Jones and Dean Williams with Good old "Word of mouth"

We weren't using this method last year.... So you'd rather carry on the way it is at the moment???

moneyball stats bollox signed Jota, Odubajo, Gray last year. Two of them unfortunately left for £10m the other one is injured (which imo meant that he too didn't go for about £4m). moneyball stats bollox has signed Colin as a replacement for Odubajo (he's injured) and Djuricin as a replacement for Gray (he's only been here a month). What is the other moneyball stats bollox you're referring to? Is it something to do with causing injuries?

Well it's not working very well at the moment.. Is it!

Behave...................... Weve been using our stats approach for years. Just on a smaller scale. Some people will never get it.

Oh not again, get Minehead on here as he gets exasperated trying to explain to people who don't understand. I can't be bothered beyond " Rubbish"

Your expectations

If we are anywhere close to the top 6 come the new year, i'd expect to be reloading my betting funds and backing us left right and centre for top 6 and promotion. I think we could have a very good 2nd half of the season and be a joy to watch.

Your expectations

Ok, let's take another route... How many club's (in England) are using moneyball tactics that are successful.

You're going to have to explain what moneyball tactics are first. I don't understand what you mean.
