Rico Henry

I think we may possibly see another legend leave, Rico very much in the Ethan mode. If only Rico wasn't injured, he'd be a full on England international and probably not playing for us but one of my favourite ever players, I'll miss him if he goes but due to the amount of time he's had on the sidelines through injuries and his age, I fully understand that he needs to play. A brilliant defender, so much pace and awareness, the perfect full back. As Always Up The Bees.

Being out of contract next June, clearly he is firmly in the frame to move. That said, there is probably only a limited number of clubs who would have need of him, and are able to pay a fee that would be considered acceptable to us. Below a certain level we may as well keep him, and place Meghoma on loan somewhere.

Gone from having no fullbacks to a bloody excess of them!

Our play really relies on the full backs putting in a shift both offensively and defensively. I actually think it’s the one position where you’re likely to sub both left and right backs each game so a “back up” can easily be getting 25 to 30 minutes.

Great to read this from chief Keith yesterday (when discussing Diouf signing):

We love Rico to bits as a player, with what he brings and the fact he’s been at the club for so long and knows the culture of the club inside out.

Suggests Rico still has an important role to play / position to compete for this season.

Too bloody right.

I think some are writing him off too easily.

Prior to the BMuff injury i feel like he was close to being back to a good level and fitness.

Im not ready for him to move on yet.

Rico has been one of our most consistent performers when fit ever since Dean Smith brought him in from Walsall and for some to write him off already is just crazy, I'm sure he still has a role to play with us

No-one would dispute the first part of your post - no argument at all.

Also, I haven't seen many (any?) 'write him off'.

What I have seen is succession planning. I am pretty sure he still has an important role to play this season, if he wants it. Being realistic though, he has now probably slipped to 3rd choice left back, behind KLP and Diouf. That can all change of course, due to form, injuries, etc. With our high energy press and lung-busting runs, swapping wing backs on 70 mins will be a vital tactic this season, I feel.

I would like to think he will stay and fight for a place, given his long stay with the club. It's an exciting season to be part of. But he must accept he is no longer a nailed on starter and isn't likely to be again.

How many of the current squad are actually '' nailed on starters '' though???

Rico Henry

Love him and a club legend. Can’t see he will be happy just playing third choice now diouf is here. Nailed on to leave before the window imo

Rico Henry

If he was off anywhere, I wouldn't have expected him in the squad yesterday.
Entirely speculative but it could be a move had already been in train but dependent on signing Malick. With both on the bench yesterday, getting 5 minutes may've been a bit of sentimentality from Keith.

Maybe, but I just can't see it this side of the window. Unlike Josh being given minutes at the tail of last season (which clearly was sentimental - he was way off it), I don't think putting Josh on at 1-1 in a tight game would be done for sentimental reasons.

He is still needed, as his selection in the squad shows. An injury to Diouff or KLP, and he is right back in the frame. In addition, he is only just recovering from injury, so I'm not sure a club would risk £££ on buying him right now.

I think a move in the next window is more likely - if it's clear he is getting very little game time, he may well decide he's had enough.

Rico Henry

Roerslev was in the squad for the Nottingham Forest away game last season, and moved a few days later
Gnonto was in the Leeds squad yesterday and moved to Fiorentina on loan today. Not injured & not playing is a strong clue to an impending move, although, playing doesn’t necessarily indicate the opposite.

Have no idea whether a move is being lined up for Henry but hope he’s here until January at least. Then take it from there.

Rico Henry

I hope he stays this season, we need depth as previous seasons have showed. However, it seems like it’s inevitable that he will move on next season, hence the reason for signing another left back. Maybe he didn’t want to sign a new deal without being gaurenteed a lot of playing time which is pretty fair from all parties really

Rico Henry

Rico has still got the minerals in my view. He may not be the player he was but is still pretty damn good. With Pinnock you feared a slip or error. With Rico you just don’t . But all that aside time moves on…. That’s my head talking. I’d love him to stay for the season but that’s my heart talking.

Rico Henry

I hope the club manages to put out something better than the level of a passing happy birthday post to show their/our appreciation for Rico Henry

It is incredibly rare to do ten years at a club, and also what a ten years
