Disappointed with prog. Many names I see including Bill's etc but not a complete list. Not about me but my name missing and others.
Also picture of Peter Pond Jones is does not stir the memory of time.
For a fiver one would hope for better. Respect to all but would like to have seen my name on a "Complete" ? list of shareholders.
Sorry Brentford but feel very let down.

More than one name missing. Disappointed.

If you read it, it does say the list is incomplete, and to contact the Club. As those missing names will be noted on the website for a permanent reminder of what happened in 1967. Along with those named in the programme, taken from the only surviving ledger.

It's alright. They know and if they don't well it's not worth me telling them. They took the shares away anyway. Just makes the prog feel wrong or incomplete.

Seems like they have put the top top fans on the list and kept the riff raff off.

A never to be forgotten time for those of us who experienced it . It makes where we are today that much more special.

IIRC us was against Southend and we were 0-1 down at the time. News cameras were there filming fans in the Braemar forecourt.
Is any of this footage available anywhere?

Wow! Sounds like some game to be at!

Just googled it and the game was BFC 1 v 1 Southend in front of 10.646 in the old 4th Division, Lawther scoring for the Bees as someone mentioned.

Bees went on to finish 9th that season, as follows:
"In a bid to buy Brentford out of the bottom two divisions of the Football League, the large transfer funds made available by chairman Jack Dunnett to previous managers Malky MacDonald and Tommy Cavanagh had left the club with mounting debts. Cavanagh had spent £30,000 on seven players since being appointed to the manager's job in January 1965, with five key attacking players (Bloomfield, Lazarus, Ward, Bonson and Fielding) being sold on for a total less than half that sum during the course of the 1965–66 Third Division season, towards the end of which he was sacked. New manager Billy Gray failed to halt Brentford's relegation slide, which meant that the club would be members of the Fourth Division for the 1966–67 season. An average home attendance of 11,000 would be needed to break even, a record which had been falling year on year since the 1963–64 season. With no money available to bring in established players, manager Gray brought in a number of youngsters, including his nephew John Richardson.

The Bees had a good start to the season, winning the first two matches to sit top of the Fourth Division, but a winless run of five defeats in eight matches dropped the club into the relegation places in mid-October 1966. Manager Billy Gray then made wholesale changes to the starting XI, introducing a number of youngsters, with the new-look team going on to win five consecutive matches. The establishment of the new lineup led to a clearout of players, with out-of-favour Micky Block, Billy Cobb, John Regan, Mel Scott and Ron Crisp all exiting Griffin Park before the end of the season. The Bees failed to keep up their good form through November and December and dropped back into mid-table. The team weathered the storm caused by the tumultuous events of 19 January 1967, which resulted in the departure of chairman Jack Dunnett and manager Billy Gray. Trainer Jimmy Sirrel took over as acting manager and built on the improved January form under Gray and led the team on a 16-match unbeaten league run, which equalled the club record at the time. The run left Brentford within three points of the promotion places, but an inexplicable five consecutive defeats in the final six matches of the season ended any chances of promotion.

The Brentford reserve team had a successful season, beating local rivals Fulham in a replay to win the 1966–67 London Challenge Cup."

Meanwhile, Bees lost 5-2 at Sunderland in the FA Cup 3rd Round a week after the Southend game, having overcome Chelmsford and Orient (after a replay) in the previous rounds. They had gone out of the new-fangled League Cup to Ipswich in the 2nd Round the previous September - still not taking it seriously, eh?

No, nor me.
It must have been around the same time, I always remember Mark Lazarus getting the ball
from the Keeper, flying down the wing to their goal line turning round and with the ball running
all the way back to our keeper, don’t know why, perhaps he was time wasting.
Never seen anything like it since. Strange things that stick in your memory.
At my age not much does. :-)

Wow! You’ve just reminded me after all this time! I’m sure time wasting was the explanation- maybe not confident enough to keep it in the corner, but happiest running with it?

I loved Mark Lazarus, even if he did come from them up the road...

He was known as Malky MacDonald in Scotland, while at Celtic and Kilmarnock. I also remember seeing it in the programmes from his playing days at Brentford. Whether he referred to himself as Malky, as Bees manager, I haven’t a clue.

tell us more

It was first game after takeover bid. It was just sheer defiant emotion when it went in. I saw so many in Brentford who didnt even actually go games shed tears at that time. I was with Mum Dad and Grandad that day albeit had already met life long friends like Alf and Colin etc who I did the walk with a few months later. The shares we got we were so proud of. Was gutted when club removed them and still find it a needless kick. Was so proud of my club that day. My grandad hated QPR anyway so I can feel him still now.
