AFC Bournemouth

Thought they were unlucky last night but at times it did show a difference in " intelligence and thinking" between last seasons top Championship team and a fairly average Premier Team.

Liverpool anticipated better and in a lot of cases had an extra yard in pace. Impressed with Bournemouth who should have come away with a point

Interesting how quiet the " wonderful" Pool fans were and I lived the " is this a Library " chant from the Bournemouth fans

AFC Bournemouth

shocking decision

That's the trouble with today's offside law, the guy was in the middle of keepers eye line and did make an effort to get to the ball.
When are we going to go back to. There must be two defenders between the attacker and the goal line.

I do understand you Mr. Pipe. You have a real dislike for them Scouses !

AFC Bournemouth

appreciate your indignation, and this sounds like a disgrace for Bournemouth. however, massively disagree here :)
1 is already the case no? but maybe better training needed?
2 you mean like one in each quarter?
3 the game would be interminably boring, take ages, there are loads of calls that are not "black or white" - it would literally ruin the game, in my opinion :)

some improvement may be possible, but certainly not every decision

Not necessarily, if each team were allowed say a maximum of 2 or 3 appeals per match with which to review a controversial decision. They would be very careful how they used those appeals, only for really critical match turning points.

Like in the Bournemouth match, there were really only 2 critical points - Bournemouth's turned down goal, and Liverpool's offside goal.

AFC Bournemouth

Coutinho was clearly coming back from an offside position, then tried to play the ball right in front of the keeper before Benteke scored.

Poor, poor amateur refereeing all round by linesman and ref.

Action replay for the ref. would have overturned the goal - all PL clubs have, or should have big screens, so it would take less than a minute to have reviewed that critical turning point.

Plenty of real fans have been priced out at these clubs and their places taken by New Football subscribers.

this one sounds fairly conclusive - but sometimes they're marginal and people see it the way they want to.

2 or 3 per game, yeah fine, but they don't save them "carefully" in cricket - they use them aggressively and speculatively.

i know we can't prove it til it happens - but i'm pretty sure the game would become an ugly spectacle and a farce with replays. not saying it would be like this but, i watch a lot of basketball, and they introduced video for tight calls late in games in the NBA - and it can make the end of some of the games awful and interminable. and refs tend to learn on them excessively once they're there - even if it's a 70:30 call (or 90:10!) they'll refer it to video "just in case" (we've seen this in cricket too)

AFC Bournemouth

And if they said that about BFC you would be the first to complain.

You do post some crap at times.

I would fully expect them to say the same.

And thank you for your forthright views. I'm touched you remember my input.

Lets be honest, every time there is a penalty given (or not) there is 2-3 minutes when every player and his dog surrounds the ref screaming at him.
In that time a video ref could quite easily say "Yes, penalty" or "No penalty" and that would be the end of the story.
Same with sending offs.
Wouldn't take any time out of the game that isn't already lost

Totally agree. There are 3 game changing events in football: goals, penalties and red cards. You always get at least 1-2 mins delay after each of them due to celebrations or protests. Why not just let a video ref review ALL of them on tv before the game restarts which would catch any obviously wrong decisions like last night's Benteke goal.

Very simple.

I do not agree.

No thanks to trial by television.

It's a sport. Played by humans who make mistakes, and refereed by humans who make mistakes.

Fully agree, it's the only time I have ever agreed with Durham on TS

yep would far rather see referees better trained, shown more (actual) respect, and protesting stamped out

So because one group make mistakes, it's okay for the other group to make mistakes?

Sorry I don't think I follow that logic.

I say if something can be improved, i.e. less officiating errors, and the pace and style of the game remains unaffected then why not?

Technology works very well in rugby, cricket, tennis etc
it actually adds to the entertainment when you're there. As usual, football is years behind other sports.

I'd like to see the sin bin introduced to football too, would clean the game up a lot but that's a separate debate i suppose...

I think only captains should talk to the ref. That would be a good first step.

AFC Bournemouth

this thread's gonna spiral..................
i contend that it would very much affect pace and style - and i'm afraid that's irrefutable until a trial is set up lol
my main crux is........ it sounds plausible, but when you really think about every game, every detail, every possible replay - it would become farcical. like, they would have to allow more goals so that they could then retrospectively check everything (in the "delay"). so then as a fan in your big must-win game, you score four but they're all disallowed - how's that fun? and then the moments of celebration will be dampened etc. just a very minor point (i'm not saying "and THAT's why it won't work"), but i think there are lots of other areas it would affect negatively.
anyway i'll stay out of this now (until Bournemouth do something noteworthy), unless someone posts something i just can't bear to let go :D

AFC Bournemouth

Pleased for them yesterday, good to shake up those teams that have an over inflated opinion of themselves

..............another Premiership point..............gave away a late penalty.............

Tyrone Mings: Bournemouth left-back's season over

Bournemouth's record signing Tyrone Mings has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
The full-back, 22, has suffered torn anterior and medial ligaments in his knee and could even miss the start of 2016-17.
Mings, an £8m summer signing from Ipswich Town, will be sidelined for between nine and 12 months

As has been said elsewhere, video decisions improves entertainment value BUT i think the reason football doesn't have video replays is so that managers, The FA and FIFA can still blame referees for getting it wrong.
God forbid anyone actually noticing that footballers cheat and dive for penalties etc, we cant be blaming those poor lambs on 100 G a week can we?
Money talks.

Speaking to a Bournemouth fan at work today and sympathising with the similarity between this and Bjelland's poor luck.

The Cherries had virtually no injury problems last year and he reckons that their luck from last season is beginning to catch up with them - possibly in the same way as ours is. :(

Luck catching up with them ! They are in the prem, it isn't meant to be easy and staying up will be an achievement. They've given a good account of themselves so far

I have a simple view on this, how do we know it won't work until we try it?
Why not trial it at non league games before we write it off/sing its praises....simples!!

Not that Ipswich will be happy but Mick McCarthy deserved legendary status for selling Mings for that much plus getting Fraser and Pitman on loan, great business

Well, I'd be off to non-league where it would still be a real sport.

MotD, last week was a very good watch, mainly due to the fact that there many controversial moments.
The chaps in the studio debated all these decisions, but were still unable to prove one way or another whether Villa should have had a penalty.
It's these moments that make football exciting and entertaining.

The main reason I see that people want video technology used is because 'there's a lot of money at stake'. Well tough sh*t. It's still a sport, and fallibility should remain a part of it.

Leave non-league alone. It's purer than the bullshit world of big business football clubs. Don't make them suffer.

Fully agree, it's like when Refs foul up in the Prem League and get demoted to Championship or lower, why should those leagues suffer for the incompetence of a Prem League Ref.

Similarly if, due to massive sums involved, the big boys want video evidence etc then let them have it, why should every one else suffer, plus of course who the hell would finance it at the likes of Taunton and Bridgwater, my 2 local teams

They are losing some big players, to long term injuries.

Where have I heard that before.

This criticism by the BBC of Bournemouth for not having any academy players in their first team squad should not be seen as a criticism of Bournemouth but more a criticism of the BBC who have a complete lack of understanding about smaller clubs.

Smaller clubs like Bournemouth and us have used our academies to bring players on in order to sell them, make money and survive. In Bournemouth's case you can look at Ings & Vokes as examples. You could also look at Lallana who was a junior at the club and earned the Cherries £6m in sell ons last season.

Any decent players Bournemouth would have had in their academies a few years back would either have been picked off by a Premier League academy years ago or sold off to make ends meet. It would have been more of a surprise to me if they had a first team regular who had come through the academy.

Many accuse Sky of disregarding football pre-92 but I believe the BBC is far guiltier of this. Articles and features on 'smaller' clubs like this one are usually patronising and lack any understanding.

It shows how naive it is because believe me Southampton run the rule on all the top talent on the coast and in Dorset. Bournemouth will only be getting 2nd /3rd options behind them and Brighton .
Chelsea have an under ten " wonder kid" called Jimmy and his parents take him to cobham for training and games four times a week . He is a Bournemouth boy and they make the long commute and seems his hown town club missed out .

Not sure that's the best thing for a lad his age IMO ....surely a local team is much better so he can also keep going to school...the poor kid must be permanent knackered ...the parents too

Thats the problem with the bigger clubs, i know what Chelsea do with regards EVERY local school (and its not very nice) - Maybe players up to 12 (for example) need to be at a club a maximum of 25 miles away?

AFC Bournemouth

Under 12, the maximum allowed travel time is 1 hour for a club's recruitment area. It's debatable that Cobham is an hour from Bournemouth.

Anytime during rush hour, no chance!
It takes me 40 minutes to get to Bournemouth and i live 25 miles away!

I see that Bournemouth were fined £7.6m for breaking FFP rules. They also paid it to the FL in July 2015. A drop in the ocean considering the many millions they'll get for this year and next!

Still no word on the rara's then?!

I also notice that Leicester City haven't been fined yet either, for the previous year and their breaking of FFP.

I read this tweet, below, and now beesotted and the gpg are tweeting about it. :)

No idea. Maybe to comply asap and not to get bogged down with appeals etc etc. £7.6m is peanuts when you've just received circa £70m for this year and a minimum of £100m for next year.

I was asking why you said the month of July. Now I know. You actually mean "in the 12 months ending 31 July 2015".

Re Tweets, yes, and, of course the GPG is correct :)
