Andy is becoming a victim of his own success, just look at where we are now as a comparison to when he took over.
Just give him time, and he will sort it out. It is a new team and will take time to gel, we are playing very well defensively now so its a matter of time until the form is reversed.

This is equally spot on IMO.:sorted::sorted::sorted:

Roger, I don't think it is a case of playing badly and wanting the manager sacked after one or two bad performances. We have had a problem now with our style of play and the results it yields for some time. We have won 8 out of our last 30 league games. This is almost a one win in four ratio. We do not score many goals.

I attend every home game and a number of away games and will continue to do so regardless of results. I am finding it increasingly frustrating however that Andy does not appear to acknowledge that his style of play is not yielding the results we all desire. I also find our style of play boring and difficult to watch. If our results were positive then I would accept Andy stating that "this style of play will win football matches etc etc" but the facts are we are winning one in four at present and I am looking for an acknowledgement from the manager that things are not working and also looking for some sign of change from him.

I am not so fickle that I have become part of some 'sack the manager' brigade because of a couple of bad results. This has been building up for a while now and certainly has been going on long enough for Andy to have seen it and done something about it.

We have the resources now to not only play attractive football but to also win football matches. If we had a playing budget of £1M then I could understand but the fact is we should be getting much better than we are and me saying so does not mean I am unloyal, fickle or anything else.

Excellent post particularly suggesting the manager needs to acknowledge that something is not right. Was not aware of stats regarding league games which is extremley worrying.
I hope and beleive that the board are aware of the figures and that they will be discussing this trend with Andy, all that is required is a change in the style of play, not to dismiss "tippy tappy" but perhaps embrace it a bit and in an ideal world for Scott to actually say that what he is doing now is not working so will look to change.
I genuinley beleive that if the fans could see that a change was taking place then the patience levels would improve, it is his aparrent intransigence that is winding a significnt number of posters up.

Andy Scott

I think the football at the moment is generally dire but AS through luck or judgement has progressed us enough over the last two years to be given more time to sort it out.

I look at this squad and think we could still turn it around. But it needs to happen soon and we need to be able to vary our play

I couldn't agree more condorman.

Andy Scott

Normally after 10 games have been played one can gage which way the season is heading.

Andy Scott

It's not often I feel compelled to write on the gpg these days but some of the posts on this thread beggar belief.
It's strange that a manager who won us the title and finished ninth in a tough division last is now being publicly pilloried.
I have worked with brentford managers since perryman and yes I have had a few fall outs With andy Scott but I can honestly say he is totally committed to the club, has a strong feeling for the fans and has, for the most part, brought in some decent players.
Stubborn he may be but only publicly....privately he will be questioning himself and seeking the views of bullivant and co.
He is arguably one of the best young managers about so I'm frankly staggered that people are reaching for the ejector seat button eight games in.
Four goals scored is worrying but at least it's a tangible and solvable problem that will be sorted with a tweak here and there.
I am an eternal pessimist when it comes to brentford as Scott himself will testify but to get rid of him now would be a huge mistake.
I still believe we will be top seven but you have to keep the faith.

Sorry Jim this last line is utter garbage when you take into account the playing budget for this season. To finish seventh we would have to win 20 of our last 38 games, draw nine and lose nine. That is not going to happen with a one dimensional manager who can not adapt his team's style of play when faced with sides who have done their homework on us.

AS has shown little tactical no how, no guile and certainly no ability to see that he has got it wrong. Dropping Lee on Friday night was an absolute clanger unless Hamer has a clause that he must be selected if Fit.

AS should have gone to the Orient set out for a point. One forward, five midfielders of defenders and strangled the game.
Due to the fact we lost he has put himself immediately under pressure.

The last three season 6th place have finished with 80 / 76 / 76 points so ultimately unless we go on an amazing unbeaten run we are already after 8 games likely to miss out on the play offs. Remember we need 70 points from a possible 114 points available.

IF AS is the man for that job I am a Chinaman, so he gets one chance on Tues to buy himself another chance on Saturday. We need to go on an unbeaten run of about 14 games IMO with at least 9 of those being wins.

Andy Scott

Correct me if i am wrong but after a good opening 5 or 6 games last season didn't we drop like a stone & spend a considerable amount of time hovering just above the relegation zone, which included some absolutely dire performances. eg Wycombe away. This season we have a better squad but still the same crap performances.

Andy Scott

Normally after 10 games have been played one can gage which way the season is heading.

Seems fair to both fans and manager to allow 10 games before making a judgement. Either the manager has put together a winning formula by then or should walk the plank.

Of course, if AS had selected Lee and there'd still been the 0-1 scoreline, the know-it-alls would have been baying: what a clanger, bringing back Lee on the basis of a one-day wonder performance whereas the brilliant Hamer, total clean sheet so far, blah blah blah...

There are the posters like the above who think they know better than the manager; there are the posters who think the defence has been shedding goals (the reality is one goal shed in four league games); there are the posters who want AS to be ritually humiliated with a public confession of wrong-doing...

Sometimes I wonder why I read this garbage.

Andy Scott

As it stands nearly 72% of us think Andy Scott should either stay or be given more time to sort things out...in anybodys language thats an overwhelming majority...so for me he definately stays....the cost of getting rid would be potentially huge...compensation/cost of new manager/cost of new players when the new manager doesn't fancy half the squad and wants to make his mark by bringing in a load of new ones.......all of this doesn't mean i think he is bullett proof but in my eyes his track record with us has earnt him the time to sort things out...of course we are all frustrated and impatient not to say pissed off coz we all thought we were going to be doing so much better....he was under similar criticism Nov/Dec last year and we ended up OK..the level of expectation is much higher this season but I still back him to turn things round...but like others I want to see some signs of improvement but we are nowhere near the point of sacking yet.

Andy Scott

I don't think that is reasonable. 10-12 games is often said to be the point at which you first get a fair idea of how the season is likely to go but it's too early to dismiss a manager who needs a longer time period to turn things around. If the situation is still dire at Christmas and the possibility of relegation arises then a managerial change can be considered. This gives the new man time to sort things out. Even so it can be done much later as we all know from experience. Scott should be given a chance to work on the problems until the new year at least although I do understand what people are saying about the problems he creates himself. Keep him on, back him but demand that he listens and makes changes. Do it now.

Tranmere away could be a defining moment if this early form continues - I'm on record as not being an AS fan, but calling for his head now is hasty. We're muddle through this season & come mid/lower table & AS will still be in charge. The big point that the board have to deal with is the ultimate bums on seat question.

I'm not an AS fan and don't agree with his style and tactics. However, I think he needs some more time to turn it around but not beyond end October. The bums on seats point is also particularly important. The football we play isn't entertaining and this is reflected in attendances. I've taken a few friends along but they've all said thanks but that was dire-we aren't coming back.We are a business and the customers don't like the product and that is very worrying. A point I'm sure won't be lost on MB. AS could get away with boring me to death with the playing style if he got results but he isn't getting them and potential new paying customers will visit once and not come back. As one poster has said, we are winning one game in four since last Christmas.

Stan, there is absolutely no chance of us getting relegated. Zero, Nil, it just aint gonna happen. :nono: I'm not even gonna add IMHO. It just isn't going to be the case. We will be nearer the top than bottom within 10 weeks.

There are issues & problems than need to be sorted for sure. We will turn the corner and believe Scott will be the man. He has earnt time.

Exactly.

Agree with your last point although l would add "Paying"bums on seats.

. I rate him even less as a manager. In saying that, if I'm proved wrong I will eat humble pie and admit I was wrong.

You already have been proved wrong. We won League 2 then finished 9th in the strongest third tier for years.

You're wasting your time Nick. There are posters who, for whatever reason, have decided that they simply don't like AS as a person or refuse to acknowledge his achievements with us. It's pretty clear who these people are as it's reflected in their postings and it's a simple fact that they'll be at their most vocal when the chips are down.

Thoroughly agree with all of this. It's an expensive business firing a manager. Some posters have said there were plenty of other managers out there who could turn this around (presumably quicker than AS), but are they in work (compensation to be paid), out of work (why?), and who are the names in mind?

I know, its just beyond comprehension. 2 defeats in 7 or 8 or whatever. 2 goals let in in 5 games. But its as if we have lost 8 on the trot.

And that is true,Some people on here have very short memories.
The bloke should have our backing 100%,its too early and i for one am getting a bit pissed off with the tone of some people after 8 games and our cup wins.
I think it will be a sad day when Andy Scott leaves this club and will always thank him for pulling Brentford up from the Gutter (which is where we were) but we could win the Premiership title and it wouldn't change some peoples opinion of AS.

Andy Scott

Don't waste your breath Northampton. There are posters on here who simply adore AS , refuse to acknowledge his limitations etc. 8 wins in 30 , crap football - what are you talking about ?

And if that post was aimed at me, you've only to look at what I've posted over the past few days to see that I'm not so blind as to suggest that everything's rosy or that Scott isn't under real pressure to turn things round PDQ. It isn't and he is and I'd be amazed if there are those who think otherwise. My beef is with those who'd simply discard him now or who refuse to acknowledge the team's previous achievements under his tenure.

Andy Scott

If we get any less than two points out of our next two games he'll have to start looking over his shoulder! I expect us to beat Charlton as i don't think there that strong of a team but I can't see us getting anything at the Brighton.

Andy Scott

Don't get pi**ed off with others who have a different point of view. I'm not pi**ed off with you. I, like you , am extremely grateful to AS for getting us out of the basement. We played good football in our promotion season but that went out of the window last year as we didn't have enough players who were good enough to play at a higher level. AS got results by bringing in loan players to raise the standard and by adopting a one dimensional approach.
Unfortunately what should have been a short term emergency approach has become embedded in his mind and he can't see the alternative. We have been sussed out by opposing teams and need to change. We have the players who are capable of playing good football.
The facts are 8 wins in the last 30 and 6 points out of a possible 24 this season . History doesn't win games and much as I appreciate what AS has achieved, football is results based and we need to move on.I'm not a sack him now advocate but I'd say we have to see an improvement by the end of October both in style and results.

Andy Scott

Four cup-tie wins in four (including Everton).

The cup is so unimportant, I wished we'd lost earlier and just got on with the league. The cup is a nice distraction when you are performing in the league, isn't it, it's not up to much when you are playing like we are every week.

Andy Scott

Owlsmoor, it probably was a dig but you and me , in fact all of us on this board, love Brentford fc. So let's remember we are all united in the cause whatever we say here.

Indeed, I know Owlsmoor and Nick Logan, they are good guys and although we are at different ends of the spectrum when it comes to what's going on, we still all get on with a handshake and smile at games.
I think I put my arms around Owlsmoor at the end of the game on Friday and simply said "Feck that".............

Andy Scott

The "vote" is clearly in favour of letting Andy have more time at the very least, with only 30% or so thinking he should go now. I find myself falling in this latter camp because i think he has had enough time. This squad is pretty good, and has, IMHO, the ability to get us a top-6 finish. If selection and strategy - exclusively the manager's province - see us with only one win in our first eight games, and only scoring four goals in the process, that has to be a failure in anybody's language. Further, if there were strong signs that it is turing round, then fine, but there are not. By all accounts, Orient was just a repeat of Walsall and Rochdale. I dont think we will go down, but if we miss the opportunity to at least have a crack at the play-offs, then that will, to my view, constitute a failure, with only the manager accountable. I let others therefore work out the wisdom of keeping him.

Andy Scott

Should he go or should he stay???? I would imagine it will make very little difference what the key board warriors have to say, at the end of the day the board will look at where we are, what has been acheived and what the managers plans are for the future. I have no doubt that they are as aware of anyone of the run of results.
If, following their discussions which I presume are on a regular basis, they feel that there will be no improvement then I guess they will start to consider alternatives however if Andy can convince them that the present position is not really justified then they will go with him. Certainly whilst we are still in the cup ( irrespective of views expressed on this board) they will acknowledge that success and refrain from taking any precipitous action.
I would hope that when considering the future they are also considering the number of punters going through the gates ( I am sure abee is perfectly aware of those figs) and factoring this into their considerations. In my opinion gates are falling and the hard core support is being eroded bit bit by bit, this is connected to both results and performance and to a significant degree it is the managers responsibility to address this aspect.

Unfortunately in the world that Brentford inhabit there comes a balancing act between pragmatism with regards to results and the necessity to get bums on seats, winning badly does not attract punters wheras in actual fact high scoring defeats will bring in more punters. This places the board and manager into a difficult position and they need to work together to "balance the books"

I genuinley beleive we have a team capable of doing very well and it just requires some tinkering to change from where we are, the question is does the manager have the ability to create that change and should the board be now starting to push for these changes. Andy refers to a team game ( when talking about the players) in my opinion it is a team game encompassing players, manager and board.

It is not to late this season to turn things around providing their is the necessary desire from all parties, that remains to be seen.

:imwith:

The league is our main aim, not the League Cup, no matter how well the Bees have done in that competition, our 6 points after 8 games is a poor return, we did deserve better v Walsall and Rovers. Yes AS has done well keeping us up, getting us out by winning the league and doing well last season to finish 9th, but its the way we are playing now that matters, we are poor at times, there's no idea as to how to change the pattern of our play which is disappointing. All teams have done recently to counter us is to double up on Weston, although Everton failed to realise that! 8 wins in 30 tells its own story. Yes the LC is fun, but we should be higher up the league with the players we have and the budget that has been spent.

Just trying to point out that his record deserves a lot more time. Can you not see that ? We agree that we all want the same thing , so why the personal abuse of the manager from some ? I am a firm advocate of getting behind the team and letting the manager do his job. In the last 4 games we have somehow failed to smash Bristol
Rovers by at least 4 goals , drawn at home , beaten Everton and lost unluckily at Orient. You would not guess that by reading this forum.

We had a bad run last year and it was turned around. It will be again. How the players are getting off scotfree is beyond me and shows that any poor play from them is just being used as a stick to beat the manger with. I am not blind i can see the problems but sacking the manager in a knee jerk reaction has rarely worked before. Ask Charlton and Southampton amongst many others.

The cup is so unimportant

Maybe, maybe not (though I assume that you wouldn't pass up the chance of an away tie at Arsenal or Chelsea, with all the financial benefits that would bring).

More to the point, the cup results indicate that Scott can mix it with the likes of David Moyes and come out ahead.

Andy Scott

Can't have it both ways

More to the point, the cup results indicate that Scott can mix it with the likes of David Moyes and come out ahead.

Converseley though it would indicate that in the league he's not able to come out on top against caretaker manager's like Mick Wadsworth. :fishing: That argument can work both ways if you want it to.

My view is that Mr Scott has earned the right to turn things out but it does need to be turned around quickly. I'm sure he is only too aware of that and will do his upmost to ensure that happens. I'm sure he also knows the consequences if things cannot be turned around quickly.

Sometimes I wonder why I read this garbage. And I conclude: actually, I rather enjoy reading the GPG. Some of you are funny and witty and droll. Some of you write very good match reports. Some of you - but by no means all - appear to know a little about the game and have access to behind-the-scenes information. By and large GPGers appear to be an amiable bunch, if at times a little nutty about following a group of overgrown schoolboys kicking a ball around a park, but then it's a nuttiness I share.

Many of you, to be sure, appear to suffer from absurd mood swings, veering from euphoria on, say, a Tuesday night, to black-dog hangovers the following Friday. And sometimes these mood swings can veer over into distinct unpleasantness. But overall the sense is of a more or less happy family grouped around a shared interest, and I'm happy to be a part of you.

Respects to you all. But give the manager a break, will you?

Wow that really is shocking!

since Jan 2010 up to now, we've played 30 league games, 8 wins, 14 draws and 8 defeats. Is this play off or promotion form?? the number of players used is a staggering 38 !!

The end of last season was terrible, the football was sh*te and we stumbled past a Bristol Rovers side into 9th, they went on self destruct and borong 0-0 draws at their place, home to Exeter, Hartlepool and that poo v Yeovil somehow got us there. I won a lot of dosh with that happening and folloped it closely. Babies being born, injuries and tiredness with a small squad to choose from were in my head and gave it an excuse. However we have carried on with a big squad and fresh players to choose from, I actually don;t think we are as good as we joped we would be and that AS is not as good as he and people on here think. He is not a peoples person and won't keep a squad happy, how do I know, I can't say.
Disgraceful show thus far and Chelsea or Arsenal away doesn't mean much to me, I want to win at Orient, that will do me fine.

:) "not a peoples person" . Scotty seems to have is "own way" re man management. If he had Bill Dodgins' philosophy on people and football, i think a more relaxed attitude might help the team :sorted:

Never met him but obviously an intelligent bloke. post of the week, nick.

Andy Scott

You confirm my point. We didn't keep out of the mire by controlling games and playing good football. We relied on an outstanding signing and I doubt that even AS expected such a string of performances from the keeper. AS got lucky. His luck's running out.

Didn't hear you complaining about us not playing good football last season. Football's about results and doing well in league one you need good contacts and be able to find up and coming players, I don't think Arsene Wenger phoned up Scott and said 'please take this goalkeeper'. Saying we relied on Chesney is a bit harsh on Legge, Kev, Charlie, Dickson and others.

I really don't give a feck about other teams and what they've done. I could mention Fulham getting in Woy at a time when they virtually relegated, Norwich, but who cares.
We are sh*t at the moment and need something to happen before another season gets pissed away.
