Andy Scott

Things move so quickly in football, that after Scott spoke for the first time about his job being under threat with the defeat last Friday, a week on and he'll be painfully aware that Saturday is not just another game however he dead pans it.

Being bottom of the pack brings all our fears to the surface, and the need for change gathering pace, no one wanted to endure the thought of no play off attempt by the end of Sept and a nightmare of a relegation struggle. :nono:

Scott can turn this around, but in truth, he now needs to be a lucky manager, formations and personnel have not been changed quickly enough to affect outcomes of games we were losing in, but he now has being forced to do this from the start of games by injuries. Will we play the same stuff, dinking the balls down the channels, or pass and move through the centre? I see them before kick off, they all have the ability to pass and move, watch them Saturday from 2.20 - 2.40pm! It mostly what they practice!

Saturday will be fascinating, will it be 'no confidence' stuff or 'stand up and be counted' characters, no body really knows. He will know once you lose a section of the crowd, time closes in, only going through the next 3 games undefeated in 7 days will solve this problem.

The crowd will be willing on Saturday but we will be edgy, bottom of the table does that to us. Edgy team, edgy crowd is not good for matchday. Me personally, bring Saturday on as I want to get off the bottom of this bleedin' table as soon as possible! :sorted:

another good post Mick.C. Scott's attitude would have taken a massive knock the last 7 days, in the long run it might even do him and us some good.

COYR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Andy Scott

No! No, no, no, no, no.

No MA.

Don't think there is any way the current Club Board would take him, anyhow.

Im sure greg dyke will get us another great manager going on his previous appointments like leroy, butcher ect.
Yes to mad dog yes,yes,yes,yes

:

That is his challenge. The crowd will be behind him but if we go 1.0 down it turns ugly very quickly and it becomes very difficult for players and manager to lift themselves. We lose and we start to spiral.......

In fact the next goal at GP shapes the rest of out season......................( no it doesnt, what are you talking about Mhead you nob!)

MA was great for the club....... but i dont think i could take any more of his sven like tactics of taking a game that is won and turning it into a draw by bringing all the forwards off and camping on the six yard box inviting sh*te teams on.

MA brought great players in and we were awesome for most of the season but ultimately he lost his bottle and went negative at the end of games which cost us big time. Just for the record he did exactly the same at MK Mongs.

Andy Scott

The timings just right

Bring back MA ! We're in a relegation battle ,at last a chance to get rid of the last of the Great Escape T shirts I have left !

As good as MA was, never go back. Those times cannot be repeated imo, we are a different club now, the situation is different, he is different. However, imo there is no obvious candidate out there, which concerns me somewhat, as we could end up worse off than we are now...

Andy Scott

I wonder if Stimson is having a little chuckle to himself!

Despite being in the relegation zone of League Two.

get the Mods to allow the 197 voters like me who voted to give him more time to recast our votes and we will see exactly what the position is now!

Two choices AS should he STAY or should he GO?

Jury is still out.

It was a play on words Kingston and I should have put it in inverted comma's.

They won the Johnson paint for their first trophy in 34 years and they finished two places above us just missing out on the play offs by 7 points despite having a ten point deduction.
They scored 20 goals more than us and finished with 11 points more plus the deduction so that is a 21 point difference. That is seven victories Kingston!

Come on credit where credit is due I say!

But they also had Championship players and could spend £1,000,000 on one player.

The way the Bees are perming or not performing, we would probably lose to wealdstone too. All this ''Give andy time'' crap is starting to do my head in.
Do us a favour Mr Scott, pack your bags, collect your P45 and **** off.

Disgraceful. Want a manager sacked but telling him to **** off is out of order.

Coppell's retired and I wouldn't want Pardew at Brentford.

I want Scott to have a Bobby Robson Italia 90 style epiphany and to get it right. I think most of us do. Let's just see a performance on Saturday and the rest of October and take it from there.

Can we please put talk of Coppell to bed?

Scott is nowhere near Martin Allen. Times were great under Allen , If Scott went then bring back Allen. He still loves this club.

Never go back.

I love MA, was great when he was in charge, but that time is gone now, let's be honest here, what's he done since he left? Play-offs (I think) with mk dons, about 2 weeks at leicester (not his fault granted) and relegation with cheltenham (again not his fault, as they were crap and he really had no chance of keeping them up)
Be honest people, if any other manager had that track record you wouldn't let him near our club would you?
Some on here are sounding like newcastle fans wanting keegan back!
It may not sound it from what I said, but I did love MA, and he did great when here, but remember that old saying "never go back"

Very valid points

if MA came back and started to do well he would be off at the first half decent job that came up, MA might have signed the likes of sodje, turner, dj etc. but he is also the one that wouldn't play stephen hunt ! and signed owusu over keeping burton he had a lot of bad signings also was it £75.000 he paid for willock!!! . Im not a great fan of andy scott i think he has set up a very predictable team this year, but he has done more in the last couple of years than martin allen has

Exactly. Has Allen ever won promotion?

Only 29.18% want him to stay. Hardly an endorsement is it?

And less want him gone.

not got the experince in management at this level, with the money we got we need someone who knows how to get out of this boring division we been in on and off for too many years!

And also i dont want any one we would consider a cult hero, would hate to see a once loved player booed when it all starts to go wrong!
For me personally i was so excited when butcher was appointed as he was an England hero and now i hear his name i laugh!

Let Deano stay where he is in our history and hearts!

That's the most valid thing. How much experience did Scott have before he was appointed in League Two?

Andy Scott

Holdsworth has managed for over three years with two clubs. He might be managing in the Conference but he's doing well. Scott had no experience before Brentford.

fair point but his style suits league two! if we want out of this division and if AS is not the answer, we need someone with experience of this level and higher, Deano is learning his trade still as is AS. I dont want deano for my point mainly though on the fact he is an ex bee hero and lets keep him like that!

Andy Scott

I'd give him 15-16 league matches (ie 6-7 more) to get up to at least a point a game - though promotion is almost off the agenda, and relegation is a real fear.

To give a different perspective we've won as many as we've lost across all competitions. If we had that same profile including 2 first round cup losses most would be happy - ie W4 D3 L4, with 2 losses being in cups, would have us around play-offs

Andy Scott

I am not sure BIAS called for Scott or Butcher's head....

I always found it interesting how quickly Scott distanced himself from Butcher so soon after he was sacked and Butcher suggested that Scott had stabbed him in the back. In hindsight perhaps it would have been better to have got shot of them both at the same time ?

Did no-one enjoy our League 2 Championship winning season, Andy Scott was manager at the time, I believe....:banghead:

Last Season's 9th place also contained quite a few highlights against some very "big" teams (Leeds, Norwich, Southampton....)
Andy Scott was the manager last season.

This is my hindsight reflection - "we did well to appoint Andy Scott, when Butcher left"

Andy Scott

Scott was a good appointment and now the pressure is on, its time for him to show as a manager he is adaptable and can change what goes wrong. he did well to get us out of league 2 but this is league 1 and different. last season was a good season and to be honest should have been better with some of the results we got and was capable of better. This season in theory we have a better team but AS does not use the players to their strengths.

If cant change his tatics and the wrongs to right he will be gone soon sadly and wont be anything other than a league 2/1 manager!

Come on the bees and AS 3 points tomorrow, id settle for a draw at tranny and then another 2 home wins and and progress from there!

Andy Scott

If I were AS now, I'd be saying to the team ''Look lads my tactics are ****ing up big time, so just go and enjoy yourselves against Charlton.I promise you my backing as my tactics for the 1st division are failing big time''
''WE got away with it in Division 2, because I am an expert in kick and rush''.
''My job is possibly on the line now,so if you love me(And I am a lovable person) go and do the business for me tomorrow afternoon''.

We don't play kick and rush.

Andy Scott

Would not denigrate what Scott has acheived with promotion and then consolidation and following the disaterous previous appointments it returned us to where historically we have spent most of the post war years, ie DIV 3.
However despit some good results against some of the bigger teams I am struggling to recall a time when the play has not been one dimensional with hoof ball and balls kicked to the wings.
Last season we battled our way to 9th due to some hard work and inspired goal keeping however all our oponents now undersatnd how we play and have easily negated this system. The vast majority of teams we have played last season and this have a play maker in the middle of the park and play a mix between "tippy tappy" and battling and untill we are able to play a similar style or dig out a couple of gems for the forward line who can convert the hoof ball we will not be able to get out of this league.
Scott is bright I am led to beleive however we have people watching football week in week out with years of experience who all beleive that what is on offer is unacceptable, I accept we are not football managers but doubt that we can all be wrong which beggars the question as to whether Scott has it in his make-up to accept that his style of play needs to change.
As has been said the first goal on saturday potentialy could be the defining point of the season concede and i fear the support will become restless to say the least, if we get it possibly the crowd will lift the team and all I ask is that Scott is prepared to make changes to the team as the match progresses to acheive success, as Poyet did for Brighton.

Andy Scott

We don't play kick and rush.

No but we do play something pretty similar I appreciate your support for Scott however even you must accept that the style of play is pretty mind numbing and seems easily negated by the opposition.

Andy Scott

I actually think that teams play 5 in midfield with one dropping when defending and cutting ball to feet passes to our front two, it leaves us with marked up wingers and only an aerial ball to two blokes who prefer it on the deck. The midfield dropper for them becomes an attacking midfielder when the go forward, it looks simple to me but how you overcome it, I and AS don't really know.

Anybody know what level coaching badge Scott is?

I think we start off playing football and getting it wide but too quickly look for the easier long ball when we don't score early on. Against Sheff Wed was a good example, we scored first and then played good stuff for the rest of the game

Ok will concede that to a degree however it seems that the opposition in pretty much all the games have someone who attempts to run the game and is capable of makingh telling forward passes. We do not hence the problems identified with our wingers and only a ball over the top as an outlet.

AS has denigrated "tippy tappy" however that would enable players to get into space and prevent us rushing to get rid of the ball, hoofing it in the hope that a forward will be able to do something with it. Northampton summed up the problem and it is a worry that neither Scott or Bullivant seem to work out a system that will resolve the problem.

Interview with Andrew Mills in today's Sun:

After striking up a relationship with Alan Curbishley, Mills became Charlton general manager in 2006 and ironically, this is the club who Brentford face tomorrow.

He added: "I am still proud of what we achieved at Charlton under a difficult set of circumstances.

"The whole experience at Charlton was a dream that had come true — although then it became difficult. It was circumstances of events which started with Curbs leaving the club.

"I left in the February after Alan Pardew arrived and the club were relegated in the May."

....so you can forget about Pardew coming here.

:sorted: Good post and accurate assessment of what is going on.

The game V Hartlepool was typical of this.We were hitting high long balls to Charlie and Alexander who were easily beaten by the much taller Hartlepool back four. When the ball was hoofed out to our wide men, Hartlepool moved 3 of their 5 midfield across to counter this threat and in the rare occasions we tried to play through the middle their midfield 5 easily out numbered our central 2.
Lots of posters have written in similar vein.

If lots of our coaching unqualified supporters can see this why can't Scott ?

Andy Scott

Is it me or are there some posters on here , who seem to get more pleasure out of Andy Scott (and by default Brentford) losing than they get out of AS/Brentford winning......

Just reading the "Andy Scott out" thread from last year, which was closed off after he sadly (for some) got us to 9th place, now getting deja vu with this one.

What has he done to people, for them to tell him to "F**k off" or one guy wanting to go to GP on sat just to boo him. At the Hartlepool match during the 1st half a bloke a few rows behind me was telling his mate that he hoped AS would have the same fate as Marc Vivien Foe just so "we" can get a new manger

Maybe i'm naive, so can someone explain the hatred to me please?

I've got a season ticket and go to as many away games as i can but i haven't seen anything for me to hate the man...dissapointed sure..but not hate.

You can't have it both ways though. Perhaps the reason Scott's shouting at the players so much is because they're not doing the things he wants. The players have to take some level of responsibility for their actions on the pitch - they're not machines who are only programmed to play one way.

if anybody wants to start another poll for "most stupid, rediculous and brainless post of the month", this one gets my vote!

No offense shouldbee, I am sure in hindsight you realise what a daft thing to say that was.... AS saved us from relgation and won the championship in just over a year...................................

does that really count for nothing now that we have had a bad start to the season?

I can understand how people may want a change but I just dont get this animosity towards him.... FFS chaps, wally downes and rosenior got more empathy than AS and they never achieved anything!!!!

Can we put that in context please, I said "Please feck off before you become hated!" Not clever or very nice but straight after that horrible surrender at Orient that has followed many horrible ones before. I don't hate Scott but also very rarely love players or managers, I love my family and have loads of feeling for fellow fans though, players and managers aren't fanatics. I did feel sick watching Leroy walk off to that abuse, he was far too nice a bloke for that but we had become toilet.
The Marc Vivien Foe thing is evil and has taken gallows humour to the limit and probably beyond.

Andy Scott

:

My answer is that we need a midfielder or a Hermann to run at them through the middle and possibly even dribble around one or two meaning that his defensive mate has to come forward and thus create space everywhere.:D
Easier said than done.

My point exactly,

I cant understand why all of this hatred to a championship winning manager. To think he has taken us as far as he can and wanting a change is one thing, thanks Andy, shake the hand and best of luck, but the vitriol is unbelievable..... I wonder whether people are just really thick and have forgotten what he did just over a year ago... things are not good today so is it ok to tell him to FK of and die.

I can't understand it either. We are all gutted but the personal abuse and total disregard of previous success is just a bit strange. Its like the Sun sports writers have invaded this forum practising for when Capello next loses a game.

Andy Scott

Particularly as that is the same illness AS suffers from and he nearly died playing.

Exactly.

I am not, and never been an AS fan but I think he is a very brave man even to have continued in football after his illness was diagnosed, let alone to have taken on the job of Brentford manager !

I think the people who spit out hate and vitreol against this man are totally out of order...criticism yes,but please not hate.
