Every time someone mentions AS's inflexibility tactically, I remember the way in which he totally changed the tactics when he took over from Butcher. suddenly, we were playing the ball on the gorund, Connell was playing like an old-fashioed inside forward and running onto little balls dinked through the defence, usualy by Poole. It didn't always win, but it could be a lot of fun to watch.

Nesxt season, he brought in new players, changed the tactics and won the title.

So he's not as rigid and tactically unaware as people say... in addition, Bullivant has a wealth of experience as a coach. I doubt that he AS would ignore any changes TB made just to be arrogant.

Yes, went downhill ever since we lost our only ever creative midfield player under Scott, Gary Smith.

Andy Scott

Just to confirm that you're talking about the MA who won 2 out of 13 games at the end of his final season? Thought so.

But if you are a glass half full type of person of the 13 games did we lose?

Andy Scott

roflrofl

Please enlighten us to Dean Holdsworth's training methods I am intrigued

Kind Regards,

PeterPan

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrm I suggest you look at the Conference table Peter. In fact look at the previous season too. He must be doing something right. Newport walked away with the Conference south title last season and they are doing rather well this season . I remember in the 60's we bought a Joe Bonson from them. Re his training methods, I aint got a scooby, but he is obviousley doing something right, People say it would be a risk to employ him, and yes they are correct. It wouldalso be a risk to employ the likes of Curbishly, Ferguson, Redknap etc. Nothing is cast in stone or guaranteed. The only thing in life you can guarantee is that one day we will die. I just think AS is at the ''Last Chance Saloon'' now. Of course I want him to be sucessful. If he's doing well it means our Bees are doing well too.

Here endeth todays sermon,

4 - so we lost more than we won. I'm simply pointing out that it wasn't all roses under MA just as it isn't all roses under AS

Or we avoided defeat more time than we were beaten.

Who was it said "there are lies, damn lies and statistics"?

Andy Scott

Really, thought he did ok at Millwall.

Fair point, forgot about his time there, was lucky in never playing a prem team on the FA Cup run, still dont rate him as a manager

He didn't leave them in a good state, the problems started soon after his departure as they had signed a number of not so young players on long contracts who didn't perform. He gambled on them getting Millwall promoted to the Premiership, but it backfired.
That's roughly how I remember it.

Who struts his muff sorry stuff in the conference.

Yeah the very same one that took us to the playoffs and two fa cup 5th rounds. on a lot smaller budget. The same that bought good players like Turner , Sam , DJ Deon. and the same that never called a fan a ****ing *****, a man that respected bees fans.

:imwith: I could never understand why people raved about Smith. Undoubted talent when he fancied it, but he was injury prone and hasn't exactly been in demand from clubs any higher than the bottom of League Two since leaving us.

How many jobs was it he applied for while he was with us? Respected Bees fans my arse, he was two-faced. I still liked him though.

I cannot think of any player who has left us over the last 3 years (not including loanees) who have gone on to do well at another club.

It's a shame that players like Smith, and Cockram, don't flourish nowadays but they just don't fit in with present-day tactics. I suspect that what we, and AS, are lacking is a captain who can organise and put the managers tactics into action on the pitch. Nothing against Kev but I don't think he is a motivator/organiser in the way that previous BFC captains like Jones, Evans, Graham were.

Was listening to the radio today and they were discussing football as the golf was rained off. They mentioned in passing Ipswich and Roy Keanes record as manager. From memory they went 14 games without a win at the begining of last season eventualy they got their act together and the team playing to instructions, currently they are in the top 6 I think of the championship.

I have no doubt that the board were under increasing pressure to get rid however they stuck with him and now everything in the garden is rosy.

Now I am not sure how they were playing and whether what was being served up was attractive, I know that what we are seeing is not, howver despite my instincts for change the moral here is that by sticking with him they are now a decent team with ambitions and perhaps we ought to be thinking the same.

I will freely admit that I am not a fan of Scott and have criticised him fairly extensivley during his reign however in the cold light of day I feel we should give him till the end of November to turn things around. If no improvement then fair enough and there is time for a new manager to see the players before hitting transfer market. In the meantime it is up to him and Bullivant to get the best out of what I beleive to be a decent bunch of players.

Well said WWB I'm not sure about MA returning to GP, but to be honest it wouldn't be the worst decision that was ever made. Personally, I liked the guy, and his updates were spot on.

Yep fully agree with your post. It goes withoout saying that the more successful clubs generally hang on to their managers longer. We are at a crossroads, either Scott will become history or he could potentially go on to be one of our more longer server managers of recent times. We should give him every opportunity to learn from his mistakes and recover the situation as it is in everybody's best interests for him to be successful. However, if it does not happen after a reasonable period we will be back on the manager merry go round searching for the true mesiah.

Ipswich mate reckons "football was sh*t" early past of last season so I agree with the above. I do think we need a striker fit enough to run at full pace though currently.

good post. i like him but think he has made mistakes in the transfer market this summer.

as an aside, i wonder to whom he is answerable, if anyone, on his transfer dealings? i cannot imagine dyke is hands on day to day, and neither is mb.

line-management and all that !?!?!

MA has, by all accounts, gone even more mental over recent years.

His time at Cheltenham was blighted by stories about "madness" on the wrong side of the line.

I loved his web updates though. Maybe we could just employ him to do them on behalf of Andy and all would be good in the world

Andy Scott

I think he has made mistakes too, however I think some signings still have their best to come.

On the plus side, AS didnt have much trouble moving on his unwanted players last summer (mainly to Wycombe - for those stattos among you Bull, Foster and Stevens have played nine times each in the league without any goals between them, whilst Benno has played six games. Wycombe are ninth. I'm not losing any sleep about any of them. Oh and Cleveland has played twice and come on as sub twice for St Johnstone).

Andy Scott

MA brought great players in and we were awesome for most of the season but ultimately he lost his bottle and went negative at the end of games which cost us big time. Just for the record he did exactly the same at MK Mongs.

Remember how he exhausted the team? Run them on fear and adrenalin till March and then they collapse with exhaustion along with our play off dreams. Still, might be a good option for digging us out of the crap.

Nikki Bull hasn't scored in 9 appearances? He managed within about 3 for us

I would imagine the CEO...

Too many 'keepers, by chance?

funny you should say that - and too many older strikers.

and the midfield players are much of a muchness....

however, he is playing ko and the defence (and keepers) are pdg!

so jury out.

i really want as to succeed. honestly!!!

Don't worry Banana you're not NISSING out.....

Well, so far the concensus is Mr A.Scott is the best Manager the Bees have ever had, some say he's the new Arsene Wenger and his brand of inventive, expansive football is bringing the fans flocking back to Griffin Park, the last game saw a near capacity crowd of 4700.
The Brentford board are starting to worry that we may not be able to keep him for much longer and the rumour is Barcelona ( of the higher league) are sniffing around.
Hope this incapsulates the last weeks news. I'm off to the pub now to get ready for our match against the Latics tomorrow.

Some people like him, some others don't. It would appear that the sensible majority (including me) though think he should at least be given a couple more games to get us out of the shlte that he's dropped us in.

Andy Scott

Is it me or are there some posters on here , who seem to get more pleasure out of Andy Scott (and by default Brentford) losing than they get out of AS/Brentford winning......

Just reading the "Andy Scott out" thread from last year, which was closed off after he sadly (for some) got us to 9th place, now getting deja vu with this one.

What has he done to people, for them to tell him to "F**k off" or one guy wanting to go to GP on sat just to boo him. At the Hartlepool match during the 1st half a bloke a few rows behind me was telling his mate that he hoped AS would have the same fate as Marc Vivien Foe just so "we" can get a new manger

Maybe i'm naive, so can someone explain the hatred to me please?

.

Sadly, that's just an example of one extremely sick human being. Nothing to do with football or hatred.

Andy Scott

more than one. dozens if not more are (yet again) baying for blood.

what utter crap

the majority seem to want AS, no matter what is going on now, due to his past achievements.

some, like myself, think 2-3 more games is enough before it's a 'sorry, but......'

others want him gone now.

Nothing about 'baying for blood' get your facts right.

Andy Scott

this is getting out of hand.Just so over the top to carry this on like this.Weve only played 9 league games, its stupidly too early for the over the top anti Scott andScott Out posts.ive been to all games but the jpt games and Cheltenham and as disappointed as i am with some of the performances, recent league form has been appalling for me, its simply pathetic to want Scott out. There have been some positives, maybe not of late but some more early on.We are not getting hammered, some games have been tight and we know we are lacking up front with injurys etc.Scott has had stuttering moments with the team a few times since hes been in charge and has changed it round each time.to want him out or slate him so much so early is unreal. And does seem people almost want us to lose to say "i told you so".im not happy at the moment but still have faith itll get better after so little games played

Andy Scott

MA, top bloke at the time, great time to be a fan but let's not forget....... Willock, Newman, Bankole, Hutch, Rankin all his players who no one rated, Hunt and Tabby that he didn't rate. Live him a legend, he's not the man he was

That's what I thought. Thanks for saving me from reading this drivel. I see that MA's been brought into it too. All together now...
