Another Manager Poll

Those who want Di Matteo - be warned from what I have been told and from some Francise FC followers.

His mannerisms are similar to those of AS in that the players felt he was a bit aloof at times and they struggled to get on with him.

Maybe the board are already aware of this if they've made any enquires about him in the football world?

That is to say that I wouldn't want him as manager we just have to be very careful who we appoint.

Mind you, Clough and Revie were among the top forwards of their day. Clough's motivation came from having his career prematurely ended by a bad tackle.
Curiously - or it might just be my imagination - forwards seem to make a disproportionate impact as managers - Ferguson is another one.
...except Tony Cottee, that is.

I don't think there is anything wrong per se in being a bit distanced from the players (many top managers adopt this approach) and to be honest being too pally pally with them could be regarded as more of a problem - see Forster for possible example !

The problem arises more in my opinion if the aloofness is extended into bearing a grudge and shutting players out who have blotted their copybook in some minor way - see AS by all accounts for example.

Why was Nigel Adkins post match interview on Beesplayer? We've never had an opposing managers post match interview on there before to my knowledge. Bet Forsters wasn't on the Saints site. I've got it maybe they are showing him the door like Pardew and he's coming to us! Is this the boards way of discreetly letting us know who our new manager is without breaking confidentality agreements?

met a fan who has been going to watch the Bees for years and his 6 was very interesting.
Forster, Coppell, Hoddle, Hasselbaink, Westley and Buckle.

Three names, Three Young Managers.

He said you could swap DiCanio for Hasslebaink.

He ruled out Wilkins, Allen, Johnson,Wise, Curbishley, Di Matteo, Holdsworth and Hill and gave sound reasons for doing so.

I would be happy with his shortlist but I think we need an Experienced Manager if we can get one. Someone the players respect and in some part fear.

Whats that got to do with replying to smiffybee? yes I do know many people who work in football,so what? Do you have a problem with that? Have a read of my posts from the last 48 hours with regards to the speculation over Paul Buckle you might find it informative,but then again you probably wont.With regards our next gaffer I am firmly in the Fozzy camp for reasons that are mine.When I was informed of who may be our next gaffer,in late feb early march,lets just say I wasnt overtly excited by it,but its been proved to be wrong and that is why I had a grin on my face on Saturday.Would you by chance like to know who im talking about? pm me

Before the GPG goes into meltdown at Apinae's post (#1563) and the thought of no pre-season (presumably on the basis that it hadn't occurred to anyone at the Club to even give it a thought) I thought that I'd just confirm that there is a programme in place. I'll leave it to the Club to announce.

wahey! confirmation we'll know at half-time on saturday... therefore, it's clear, it's lee clark with jordan rhodes as player/assistant manager... you heard it here first... good decision.

Had a very interesting chat with a bloke on Saturday who told me that he knows who has actually been the secret manager for the last two seasons so pm me if you need to know - (has anyone seen Dave Bassett lately?)
Anyway can confirm the new manager won't be Cherie Lunghi although a well connected friend abroad confirms the board were very impressed with her showreel and the way she got a side promoted in her first season. It also won't be Roy Race as it appears that after checking records he is over 85 and hasn't much recent experience of managing at our level. However his ability to transform the Kemp brothers from past it New Romantics into premiership footballers is exactly what MB is hoping the Academy Manager can achieve.

It was taken out of context by a feeble attempt to take the piss out of you. I would have thought the pre-season was planned at the club, with some input from the manager, often with a few deals tied in (such as friendlies as part of a previous transfer deal). I said a couple of weeks ago that time was on our side with regards to the new manager, but they now really need to think about finalising the appointment. There seems to be little appetite for NF to run things now. We want next season's team to be the new manager's team as much as possible. No doubt there is still some dithering going on somewhere, but I hope the deliberations are near their end, and who knows... we might have our new manager named and at least present for the final game of the season. I'm probably getting us confused with the way other clubs carry out their business though.

How on earth am I supposed to have taken your comment out of context. You posted that the more time the board takes (on appointing a new manager) the less time there is to arrange pre-season games. Desperate to get the GPG back to really serious issues such as Andy Scott bullying the weak kneed Executive Team into cancelling the carol singing I politely advised that the pre-season was all done and dusted. I thought that was very nice of me but now I'm told that I've taken your comment out of context. Ho hum!!

You also instructed us to 'Hurry up'........and I said that your orders had been noted. A word to the wise...... the occasional 'please' doesn't hurt from time to time either as you go through life issuing orders.

Well since you're on here having squabbles with the club's supporter base again, abee, one can assume that the manager decision is almost finalised and you have plenty of time on your hands. Great news. :sorted:

can still speculate about the 59 who didn't get the job. hopefully we can all try and name them and abee will have enough time on his hands to tell us how many we have got right just like NLB with the jackie graham team of the 70s...

i do actually have a question about the "60 applications" and this is something i've wasted time pondering on before when reading about the number of applicants other teams say they have for a manager job...
?? does this number include all the hilarious applications from university students saying how well they've done on championship manager or is it 60 applicants from 'real football managers' ??

re. the 59 unsuccessful... i'd still like to know if stimson applied... just so i can laugh at him... some more.

Be better if the club annouce the pre season fixtures this week before the manager next week, then the speculating can even be more fun!

If we have Sunderland at home - We can guess Nicky's got the gig.
If we have Leicester at home - hmm...Warburton's got the nod...
If we get Chelsea at home - welcome Robbie DM or is it Jimmy Floyd or Hoddle. :confused:
If it's Torquay or Stevenage at home....I'll get my tin hat as the GPG' loads the ammo..:fishing:
If we get Hampton Away - I'm none the bleedin' wiser ...rofl

I am happy to answer wayfarers question. It doesn't require a 'please' as far as I'm concerned because it's not a frankly bloody rude instruction as in telling the board to 'hurry up'. But then you know that already and are simply sh*t stirring again in your time honoured manner.
