:sorted:I would also add that as much research you do its still a gamble whoever we get and fully support the way the board are going about this appointment. There have been many success stories over the years at clubs outside the premiership who have recruited from within their club rather than go for the usuall pool of ex managers doing the rounds.Bournmouth MK dons,S****horpe,Reading,Watford plus many others.I would love the present management team come good,a couple of good signings and who knows.Think they have done well considering what they have had to work with some tough games coming up just hope the fans are prepared to have a bit of patience.

Agree that it is a gamble whoever comes in, but any good club would try and limit the risk by going for someone who has been successful at this level and above if possible, Forster has neither. I am not saying that Forster will not be successful as a manager at some point, in the same way that Andy Scott may become a good manager at Championship level or above in the future, but the issue for me is that we have higher expectations with higher playing budgets over the next 3-4 years. If it were the Brentford of 4 years ago when we appointed Scott in lge 2 I would say ok lets go for it, but not now. We have to get it right, that means trying to eliminate every risk, which imo means not apppointing someone with very limited experience, rightly or wrongly.

Well then, with the greatest of respect you're off your head!! His recent "tweaks" signing Prem. youngsters who have never played a 1st team game for their respective clubs says it all for me. We don't score goals & badly need a loan striker not midfield kids!!! NF would be a disaster as a permanent manager in my opinion. It must not happen.

I would also like Forster to stay, even if he's an assistant. He's inherited what is basically a poor squad with a couple of decent players but not enough to provide the backbone of a good team. Results so far aren't bad and most people on here agree that the football is better. There's not a lot he can do but 'tweak'. Do you seriously think he doesn't know what the problems are? At least have the decency to give him the rest of the season before you write him off as a potential disaster.

If NF does not get the job next season, he will have to go. You cannot have an ex-manager in the dressing room. I like NF but we should have appointed GJ two weeks ago.

I listened to Abee on Bees Player last night before the game. I got the strong feeling that him and and the board know the man they want. They know noiw who they want. We have to be patient though and I think the wait will be worth it. Abee and the board are no mugs, they know who they want. It was a very interesting interveiw. As I said ,we must be patient.

I didn't say he was a disaster. He's clearly got a diffecult job given the playing staff we've got. My point is he should'nt be the manager & that our board should have got someone in already, not parked the decision until the end of the season. NF may make a resonable choice as an assistant. Our "Tippy Tappy" football is better to watch, but that doesn't put points on the board. In my view we've been lucky to get wins against Brizzle & Tranmere & indeed the point against County. Look at the forthcoming fixtures & we've a lot of tough games coming up! Signing kids won't win us these games, how about a lone striker given our appalling goals for record? NF does not have the experiance to get us through this & believe me I really hope I'm wrong on this point! The Board have taken a massive risk. On their heads be it!

:banghead:

abee has just explained exactly why we didn't do that. We will do better than Johnson, we have to really. I wanted him a month ago but the more I thought about it, the more I realise it would have been the wrong decision. Also, according to Bristol City supporters, he plays hoofball and his teams don't score many (Peterborough is an exception, they'd score loads under any manager with that strikeforce).

I don't think the board made a mistake in appointing Nicky. Firstly he inherited players who were poor signings by the previous manager and poor loanees. Nicky has bought in Nelison who is head and shoulders above any other right back in our squad. The other 2 are both young premiership loanees of which Adam Reed is a very good player already and made a big difference last night. This IMO shows he has an eye for good players and he plays them in their correct positions, imagine if Bostock had played in CM ?
I saw enough last night to know we're won't go down. I liked the team selection and the way we played, we restricted Brighton to very few chances and created plenty ourselves.

It's clear where we are lacking and unfortunately for Nicky he's stuck with 3 forwards who the previous manager deemed good enough to get us the the Championship. Now we're better organised, the players are performing e,g Sam Saunders and the football is 1000% better. I would have been more worried about relegation if the last manager was still in situ.
I think Nicky is putting forward a case for the board to offer him the job.

It all sounds so easy doesn't it when you put it like that. Decent manager who is on the market appointed, job done, Business Plan agreed and only players brought in who will be of benefit to BFC, onwards and upwards and what's the next item on the agenda.

The reality is that the 'decent managers' to whom you refer (one of whom you want us to appoint immediately) are almost without exception those who are currently jobless and on the market. Many are out of work because for whatever reason they were let go by their former clubs. I also suggest that every manager brings players to his club that supposedly are 'of benefit' and it's hard to see a situation where any manager tells his board........'I'm bringing this player in who I don't believe will be any benefit but I'm doing it anyway'.

I recognise your viewpoint.....you would like us to appoint a manager who could be the best of the bunch from those immediately available. They have to be immediately available because you want someone appointed right here right now. The boards position is that we'd rather have a template for the way forward for this Club, decide who we want and then try and get him rather than go down the tried and oft found wanting route of .......who is out of work, who can we appoint who won't cost us any compensation and let's get this done and dusted. I would have thought that it was exactly this thinking which has led to us being a fixture in the bottom two divisions. In other words you would like presumably a bog standard lower division manager who is out of work brought in forthwith or fifthwith if that's quicker and off we go again.

I can't say that I agree but I respect your opinion.

In full agreement with this.

Another Manager Poll

I take it you are refering to my posts as negative as abee responded to mine with what i expected. They were simple questions son,how can that be negative trying to support Fozzy in what i think, regardless of what the club say. This board is all about opinions and you will hear them all.A negative question in your view young man may well be,i dunno, lets pick something out of the air shall we..........What Football League experience does our current management team have abee? is that being negative or inquisitive absentbee?

inquisitive... like "questioning".

Another Manager Poll

I really don't think that we've missed a trick with Johnson and suchlike, the proof is in the pudding and that will only come to life when we appoint the new guy. I have never seen NF as a real runner and haven't a scooby where we arte looking but I'd imagine the new bolke's name hasn't been typed on here amongst all the speculation. That is unless that SOD from Donny has a mutual parting but that is pure guesswork.

Another Manager Poll

I would hope that the board have some names that they would like to take us forward but in the meantime are giving NF the opportunity to see if ultimatley he might make the grade, there are a number of players who have taken on the roll in adversity and have gone on to be very succesful equally a number have fallen by the wayside.

It will never be an exact science when chosing a manager as with virtually no exceptions somewhere along the way they will have been given the sack and even the so called succesful ones will have periods when it has not gone their way.

NF is showing that he has an eye for the game and is trying to do his best with a team of players that he inheritted and which, with some exceptions, are probably not good enough to take us to the enxt level, he is trying to change things by bringing in players on loan and the 3 that he has brought in to my mind are an improvement on what is already available. I have no doubt that he is looking for a striker or two to come in on loan however so are virtually every other club and as such they are a rare commodity.

If I have a complaint it is that in recent weeks it is becoming increasingly evident that our forwards are not suited to a passing style of play, they are effective to a degree with their backs to goal, that being the case I would have wanted him to be trying different permutations. Grabban did well at MK Dons but since then has been in the wilderness. Obviousley NF sees the players each week and is more aware of their abilities however I do beleive that by not gambling he is perhaps effecting any chances he might have of getting teh gig long term.

I have confidence that we will get sufficient points to stay up and reading teh comments from abee are more than confident that the Board are going to do all they can to ensure that the next manager is the most likely to take us to the next level. I am glad we did not rush out and appoint the likes of Johnson and would hope that come the Summer we will be presently suprised at the appointment, if that is NF then we can be assured that we will be finishing the season on a good winning run.

Another Manager Poll

For those who deride the decision to give NF the reigns until the end of the season perhas they mike like to consider the respective records of Brown at preston & Adams at Sheff Utd. Both 'experienced' managers not delivering the goods, Adams one win in fourteen & Brown none in eleven. Not having a go at either manager and obviously circumstances may be very different but doesn't that contrast with the 'inexperienced' NF's record and the manner in which we are trying to play football.

IMHO The constant stream of criticism and solutions of armchair "Championship manager" critics on the GPG is very depressing. NF has made more good calls than bad calls thus far and the board have made a sensible decision in his appointment until the end of the season. Despite the reverses in our last two games I am confident we will not be involved in a relegation scrap at the end of the season.

Trouble is most successfull managers at our level become unsuccessfull when they move up to the next level, get sacked and therefore become tagged as failures. Then you have managers like Still and Hill (l like both) who have worked successfully on low players budgets and picking up players from non league but would you trust them to go shopping for players in a different market.I am sure like others on here the board do have some manager/managers on their radar and wish them all the luck in getting the right one.

I am polite enough to answer your questions including correcting your assumptions on last nights attendance on another thread. I shall appreciate it if you will have the courtesy to use my correct name as it's becoming tiresome now. If others find it screamingly funny then I don't particularly......I just consider it to be gratuitously rude. It's not a genuine mistake Bill. If you read his posts they add nothing to most threads or to the argument. The occasional post is designed purely to irritate me and presumably to demonstrate his' wit' to other GPG members. I post on here to try and provide information and not for my own benefit. I have been called various names by ISB over the months and years. I don't know the man and to the best of my knowledge have never met him. He invariably posts to display his 'wit' and rarely adds to the argument or reasoned debate. As I have said I'm merely asking politely that he simply stops deliberately pretending that he can't get my name right as it's discourteous. I can look after myself but to be called Adrian and Ian this afternoon by two posters I simply don't find as screechingly funny as the posters clearly do. I am not asking for any respect........that's going a step too far for those concerned......just some simple politeness would be well received by me.

Thank you abee for your reply to my comments, which I do appreciate, because your comments are to the point. I may have given the impression from what you said, that I was prepared to accept a lower league Manager. My main worry is that I would have preferred to have seen a new Manager in place before the season end, to have given him the opportunity to cast his eye over the current squad and give him a headstart before the summer.I suppose, that after nearly 60 years of supporting Brentford, that I am frustrated that seemingly good players don't seem able to gel as well as one would expect, resulting in another below par position in L1. My feeling is that a good experienced Manager could possibly take hold of the pluses in the squad, and produce better teamwork and produce a few goal feasts.MB has produced the goods(and probably more than he intended), and like any good business, must surely be expecting a better return on his own hard earnt money than he has so far received, with the exception of the JPT which I hope will be financially rewarding - as well as winning. Thanks again abee, and look forward to the near future.

As I was at the game last night, I couldn't listen to the interview you gave to Beesplayer but from reading the updates thread, it seems you suggested that the board would come up with a shortlist of 6-8 names (inc. Forster) and begin interviews in 2 or 3 weeks time. Is that the case and if not, can you repeat what you said on here? I'm happy for the board to take it's time but I'm curious as to where we are in the process.

Also, it may not be a fair question to ask you but was Forster given until the end of the season because of results (and indeed, performances) on the pitch or because the board feel there will be options for the job avaliable in May/June that currently are not?

I was tricked into the interview because I understood that the questions would centre around my relationships with Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz........and I have the emails to prove it signed by Mark Burridge and copies with my lawyers. Luis Melville immediately started asking me about Brentford Football Club a subject about which I have little knowledge and it's intimidating up there with Mark Burridge telling me to read out his autocue answers and I'd be okay. I demand a rematch.

However the timescale that Mark told me to read out and to which you refer seems about right to me so I'll sign off on that.

NF has done everything and more that could reasonably have been expected and it seemed a natural and not difficult decision to ask Nick and Mark Warburton to continue through the end of the season.

Can you confirm that Jennifer and Cameron are on the shortlist? Their appointment as manager and coach would bring about a revolution in football and see the crowds flocking back to Griffin Park.

Think the last 2 games have been more interesting with regards to the new manager position than the previous 5, seeing how Forster and Warburton's and we react to defeat(s). One a thumping and one with a good display.

Gradually Nicky is putting his marker down,

Selection - Legge, Pim, Bean, O'Connor and Weston have all been benched in the last two weeks and Nicky states they are all fit to play, so it's good to see no one has a right to the shirt, young players who look to play ball to feet breaking in, picked, box ticked.

Style - well Saunders and Tourmani must think the wheel of fortune has turned full circle, Scott gone, some players suffer, others prosper, these two have benefitted but Forster has inherited players that are 'square pegs in round holes' for his fluid system, so box not ticked here, but most fans can see promise.

Results - for a month's worth - big tick - even a new man coming in on Feb 3 would have struggled to have the month Forster has had.

From here on in, 13 games to impress the board me thinks, can Forster and Warburton coach, it looks promising. The club has to get into the Championship to prosper, a big name lurking in the wings possible.

We have some surgery to do in the summer and the forwards will be the first call, I'm convinced Forster has the right philosophy, but already in a few games, strikes me as conservative, he has to show a little more belief in my mind to land the job, go for the win, change a game, be bold, sometimes to win you have to gamble on losing.

It was a good sound decision for the club that Forster has the job untll May but I'm watching with interest if Nicky is brave enough to stake a claim, cautious and conservative will see him back in the ranks come June, bright and brave may lead to other things entirely!

Jennifer and Cameron must stand half naked on the touch line though.

I don't know if this has been posted on the Match report thread, but I think Gus Poyet's comments are interesting. It's really no disgrace to lose by a single own goal to this Brighton side:

"Today was football at its best. Today the team needed to concentrate, be strong, deal with the pitch, and deal with a penalty miss. The team was there.

"I like it when people enjoy watching us but today it was one of the best games of the season for me. It was top football. I think we had the best chances. It was tough but totally deserved. "

I think it could be a genuine mistake by the unfunny smillie ben elton wannabe bloke, have you read his posts?

I agree with you,as l posted an unfunny Ben Elton wanabe.

Why don't you try posting on some comedy forums? sure someone will find you funny or maybe banana can create a thread for knobs to accomodate your bit of fun.

yes yes you have thought of a comedian from the last thirty years well done, no need to repeat it. Knob? yeah whatever. i really liked your story in NB's book i read last week about Workington away in 1969 by the way.

Don't speak on my behalf mate.

I hate to break it to you but you stopped being remotely funny a long time ago ISB. It's tiresome scrolling through your posts now. One of the arts of a good comedian is to know when to change their act. Yours passed its sell by date a long time ago.

I look forward to the glib response.

more rudeness, you seem to really hate me. i will look out for you and your rivetting posts in future then "mate". just to clarify i am only trying to raise a smile not kill anyone.

We're wasting our time Bill. I've just been called 'Andy' by ISB on the match report thread. Requests for a little courtesy go unacknowledged so I suppose that this will go on until we've exhausted the 'Book of Boys Names' which will not be in my lifetime.

got your hench men in to do your dirty work i see you drama queen even though you "fight your own battles" and "can handle yourself" and all that nonsense  i will call you "a bird" as requested as it seems very very appropriate. :sorted:

sorry for any offence.

I cannot understand why absentbee should not be able to comprehend what he calls negative posts to abee. Some of us have been around a long time re BFC, and are tiring of what is likely to be another copy of the AS situation, that is a decent run after the disappearance of the previous failure of a manager. NF is, no doubt, a decent bloke, but new Manager - NO. We need to do what Northampton Town have had the guts to do - employ a decent Manager now, and not wait until the end of the season. We need a Manager with real experience, and give him the opportunity to sort these bloody players out. Get rid of those not performing and bring in players who will be of benefit to BFC. Otherwise, in 30 years time we will still be watching the crap we are being subjected to now. Forwards who can't score goals, and defenders who appear to be disjointed as far as teamwork is concerned. We are fed up with a second rate performance in virtually every match, and need a real prescence from a real Manager to sort this lot out.

On the Bees Players highlights sound video which includes LMs interview with Abee, the latter hinted that they want the new Manager in place, if possible 'before the Summer' or words to that effect. That presumably means that the new incumbent will have a chance to see what his prospective new squad are capable of...

I can assure you l'm not a henchman for abee.I just don't get the piss take of a director/supporter of our club who takes time to come on here and give us information on the running of the club.I have not always agreed with abee on some issues and have debated them with him on this forum and sometimes you have to agree to disagree and move on.The decision on who is going to manage the club is in my view a massive one and this thread l have found to be interesting regarding the different views of our fans and it annoyed me reading your what l thought was a childish post.Last thing l want to do is to fall out with fellow fans so lets move on glad you enjoyed my story.
