Another Manager Poll

I reckon the next man could already be employed as a coach or assistant somewhere up the divisions.

I get the impression the board are trying unearth the next Brendan Rodgers or Gus Poyet.

I think they tried to do that with AS and to be fair you won't find many Watford or Reading fans with anything positive to say about Rogers.

I believe the board know who they want and while I hope it's a DOF alongside a young man(maybe Forster), would be happy enough if it is a manager still in employment with a proven track record

This would be good. I think a DoF is crucial. If we had had one of those in place, I think AS may be still in a job as I think in the modern game everything from scouting, signings, coaching, team selection and strategy is too much for one person. And even the things that forms part of the team manager's remit, he can always benefit from advice from the older and wiser head - such as dealing with player management and managing strategy.

This is why i have been going on about an assistant in place for the management team now.Having one rookie is risky but two is twice as.I have read MW's cv and yes it is good but still no more league experience apart from the last month. For these two to suceed they need an extra pair of hands in my very honest opinion.I do not want either to fail so i say give them that experienced person and sharpish

Crucial ?
Is that a stat based FACT !
I thought Andy's downfall was his refusal to change his plan and listen to others ?
Who would the super knowledgable and wise director of football be ? And if he was that good why doesn't he just be the manager ?

Thanks

A manager that knows our problem is up front, this has been the case for the last two season.

My posts are no more fact than most of the others on here, which if you read my post again you will notice that I write that I 'think' a DoF is crucial. 'Think' as in that is my reading of the situation. No scientific data gathering involved.
As for a refusal to change the plan and listen to others? Well, he didn't change is plan, and perhaps he did not have someone he felt he could take advice from. Who was he going to take his cue from? The players? The GPG? Bully?
And to your final question. Take Coppell for instance, he presumably left Brizzle because he no longer wanted to be day-to-day manager any more. If he has not fallen out of love with the game completely then maybe there is a role for him here. I also stated that I believe in modern football a coach/manager's job is too great to be the sole adjudicator of which players to acquire as well. I wonder what Perryman's role is at Exeter and how they are doing.

Thanks for your interest

I'm glad Nicky's still way ahead in this poll, whether on his own or with a DoF. Even after the recent setbacks against Brighton and at H'pool (not in my opinion as bad as some of the criticism on the thread made out . . . and yes, I was there), he's still at a Coppelesque 50% win rate. I hope people get behind him and stop going on about who else should take the job. He deserves it. Everybody starts somewhere. Let's support him. He knows what we need up front; he was a striker. I reckon he'll take us up next year, especially with Mr Warburton (great cv) helping him. *

I don't think that's very nice.
I just don't understand the obsession with the Director of Football post people have ?
Surely the manager of the football team must "direct" their football ?
Or perhaps this is a board position - something very close to which, Andrew Mills already does...

After today's brilliant result, how about a new poll? See where those Gary Johnson votes go. I'd love to see Nicky and Mr Warburton way ahead to help the decision-makers move from the current temporarily-permanent to a nice plain permanent.

Today's victory at Charlton means that since Nicky Forster assumed responsibility for the team it has secured a JPT Final appearance at Wembley and taken more than 58% of the league points for which it has competed. This sort of form extended over a whole season would yield 80 points. 80 points would have secured a play-off place in any of the last six seasons. It is interesting to note that the Bees reached the play-offs with 75 points in 2004-5 and 76 points in 2005-6. It is also interesting to note that had the team's form prior to NF's appointment been extended to the end of the season arithmetically the points total for the whole season would have been of the order of 54 points.

As I want to see the Bees being successful playing passing football on the ground I too hope that Bees fans get behind NF and the club's new coach whole-heartedly and stop going on about other candidates for the job.

The key to your posting is "this sort of form extended over a whole season".This sort of euphoria is the same as when AS started.NF will make a great Asst. Manager, but after many years of floundering with "could be's" this club needs a seriously experienced Manager to take us to the next level, and then consolidate ourselves in the Champions League and not make an immediate return to LI.

Whilst your comment makes sence there are exceptions to that rule, Howe who has gone from Bournemouth to Burnley and is now pulling up trees there.
Whether NF is the long term answer i am not sure but even "seriousley experienced" managers do not always deliver,
Think it will be interesting to see how we develop for the remainder of the season under the present Management as this will give us and the board a greater understanding of where he could take us,
There are a number of very experienced managers out there but not sure how many we would fancy in charge down here.

Whilst your comment makes sense

Apart from the Champions League bit. I just think it is a season or two early for us to give a good account of ourselves in that. Although Spurs have done well in their debut season so it is possible.

Thanks for doing that maths, Debut1949. Much appreciated for underlining the change of direction the new management team have achieved.

Nicky’s turned things round using the same players, except for a few loanees, and eliminated a health and safety risk for incoming Heathrow aircraft.

Don’t understand the warnings elsewhere about ‘euphoria’ and AS. If Nicky (and Mark) can do what AS achieved – big turnaround, win the division we’re in following season, mid-table finish season after that – surely we can live with that.

Proper football, too!

Nicky and Mark have been handed a great opportunity and are taking it. W5 D2 L2 and Wembley appearance. Over 55% win rate.

They’re passing the trial with flying colours.

If over-caution prevents Brentford FC handing this bright, young management team a permanent post soon, then we might just lose them to another club who have a management problem of their own to solve.

Let’s get behind them.

To bring in a new manager or not bring one in, that is the burning question. Just listened to NF after match interveiw. You cant help by being impressed by him.To me he ticks all the right boxes except for experience. Would a new manager do any better than NF at the moment? Who knows? What I would hate to see is a new man come in and undo all the work that NF and MW are doing. Hard one to call imo. It's no good comparing to AS either as basically this is still the team that he (AS) put tgether except for Reed, Byrne, and Nielson.TBH, I'm glad I'm not the one to make a choice soon.

i believe our ceo is already, in effect, our director of football as he, alone, bought in our coach to work with foz and he negotiates contacts, agents etc

why fill a vacancy that does not exist?

he has more experience in football matters than most.

some of our fans need to get their heads around the fact we are a very, very small club with a very small core following in the third tier of the pyramid and each and every extra members of staff has to not only be paid but also ni, pension, etc etc

if it aint broke - and it isn't at present - why mend it???

The youth director, Ose, brought MW to Brentford FC :sorted: Andrew Mills is/was an agent, as we all may already know, I would say AM plays a big part in contracts, fees and agents etc. But not to pick out players as a Director of Football might well do.

So you're saying that Matthew Benham is likely to be happy that his funding is seeing us survive in 14th place in div 3?

Let's try and explain in simple terms, if MB hadn't invested I doubt we'd still be in business, and if we don't get up out of this division by the time he stops we may well go out if business. Hence why so many of us are desperate to see a quick return on his investment and a future for this club.

Signing Marlon King was the beginning of the end for him. Don't think it was ever going to work out for Boothroyd, but signing King was the sign that the end was coming.
Some good managers in the Championship, but he's wasn't one of them.

I don't know, I think they stumbled on AS by accident. Many thought he was lucky to still be in a job after Butcher got the boot and I certainly don't think the board saw him as the solution when he was made caretaker.

I think they did otherwise why did the board offer a rolling 5 year deal to a first time unproven manager?

Andy Scott never had a rolling five year deal.

Another Manager Poll

That is good news. I was under that impression aswell so I am sure sonofabee didn't just make it up. Obviously with all the words out there in cyberspace there is going to be a whole load of nonsense. Makes you wonder what is and isn't true as you cannot have people cleaning it all up. Obviously we would have had to pay "Scott" something but glad it is less than one would think if you terminated a five year contract :bound:

Another Manager Poll

Apologies, wasn't it a 5 year deal ?

I can understand the confusion.

His original contract was announced as being for five years as I recall but there was a one year termination clause on both sides which was not publicised. There is no way this or most clubs could support paying out five years wages by way of compensation. Thus the five years was meaningless and it was turned into a one year rolling contract following a revue after the promotion campaign and which more accurately reflected the reality.

Thanks for clearing up abee.

The point I was originally trying to make was that the board believed AS was a long term appointment and planned for bigger clubs approaching him.
