Well maybe Forster, but the key question would be with who ?

I reckon our new boss will be at GP on Sat, ironing out the contract details with Mr A Mills etc.
I'll be keeping a keen eye open !

Whilst I have not a clue what is going on at Griffin Park, I have a gut feeling that they have a very good idea who they would like. Whether or not their ideal candidate would be interested is another matter. Hopefully the next ten days or so will reveal all, then we can can all rejoice, moan or whatever.

Somehow I have a feeling that NF will be involved in some capacity, as manager, assistant manager or coach.

Please don't suggest Sousa, his teams play drab football, don't score goals and don't concede many.
QPR felt he was unlucky but Swansea and Leics fans could't wait to see the back of him.
Sounds like out of the frying pan to me!

Cant see why NF/Warburton cant do the job, they have done pretty well so far we need probably 13 points to be safe and I dont see any reason why they wont get that OK NF is inexperienced but so have a lot of up and coming managers been, I know we have yet to see how he performs after a couple of defeats, but the football has been a lot better and I havent seen any names mentioned who we could realistically expect to come to GP who I think would do much better, and I think the board will quite likely come to the same conclusion stick with the current set up until the end of the season and re-assess.

I'd say there is little to no chance of it being either Coppell or Allen. As has been said so many times before, Coppell is retired and wouldn't come out of retirement even when Palace came calling - not even in a 'director of football' position. He's not interested anymore, move on. And I doubt very much as to whether Allen matches the criteria the board are looking for. He's the past and in my opinion, it would be a backwards step for him to even be considered for the role this time around. As far as I'm concerned, there's no chance of either becoming Brentford manager anytime soon.

The thing you have to say about Johnson is that although a lot of us were clambering for him to be offered the job as soon as Scott was sacked, it's been weeks and you have to think if we wanted him, we'd have got him by now. He's certainly very keen, as he told the Chronny. But I think bringing him in now would be a bit of an anti-climax. He seems to be something of a safety net if we miss out on more high profile names, I'd guess. That said, he certainly has a proven track record and I still wouldn't be against his appointment. I think we can do better though, to be honest. As somebody said in the other thread, people want to come to us now, rather than us pinning our hopes on them wanting us. In the past, we'd have had Johnson in the next day.

Hughton is a name I'm sure the board are considering but chances are he wouldn't want to come to us. He's hot property, a wanted man. He will get a job in the top two divisions sooner rather than later. I don't think we can compete.

Same goes for Di Matteo. I think his success at West Brom will mean he commands a higher profile job than us but there's always a chance he'll feel he has unfinished business in this league and our club has very serious ambitions of getting into the Championship. May appeal to him but most likely not. As with Hughton, worth sounding him out. Worst that can happen is he ain't interested.

Another ambitious option would be Curbishley. I have a good feeling about him actually. Mills mentioned before the Plymouth game that one of the applicants came from somebody he hadn't spoken to in five years - Curbishley left Charlton five years ago. Why make reference to something seemingly so specific (similarly how he hinted Allen was 'interested')? Although Curbishley could get a job in a higher division, he may well be interested in us as a new 'project', much like Charlton was all those years ago. Of the three 'high profile' names in Di Matteo, Hughton and Curbishley, I reckon we have a much higher chance of getting Curbishley interested, or at least willing to have a chat with Mills about the job. His working relationship with Mills could work out pretty well for us. That said, he might laugh in our face and tell us to do one.

We know Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is interested but can't see him getting the gig. Too much of a gamble. Sousa's been mentioned in another thread and is looking to get back into management, I reckon he'd see us as a good oppurtunity. Again, wouldn't want him. Negative football and supposedly poor man management. Jim Magilton... would be thoroughly uninspiring, not much better than what we had before. What about Zola? Could be the next Poyet? Other names that could be decent are Tisdale and Hill. Oh and Buckle but again, don't know if he'd be an upgrade on Scott.

And of course Nicky Forster has to be considered now. He's really got us playing and has good football principals. Not sure he's ready just yet and would hate for it all to go tits up for him. I'd love to see him in an assistant manager/coaching role whilst continuing with his playing. Don't want to lose his management skills to another club so would love him to be groomed here at GP, a la McCoist at Rangers. Though if he keeps doing what he's doing, who am I to question whether he's ready or not...

So I'd say a poll featuring; Buckle, Curbishley, Di Matteo, Forster, Hasselbaink, Hill, Hughton, Johnson, Magilton, Sousa, Tisdale, Zola. A good combination of ambitious names (but perhaps unrealistic) and names that are/may well be interested. All that said, I think the role could well go to someone that hasn't even been mentioned on here yet. I will be 100% behind whoever the board eventually go with.

Its call being fickle, its what supporters do best. We are no different to any other club in that respect. What was it that Tommy Trinder used to say, 'You cant please all the people all the time'. How true.

Spot on Wayfarer!! Awesome choice. Nicky deserves to "cut his teeth" with the Bees given the way he has steadied the ship & improved the football, but let's see him learn from a guy with real experiance & not have a repeat of Scotty, great start that then ends in tears!!

Quite why people are voting for NF is beyond me. As a new manager he will be learning his trade over at least 3 or 4 years. That means that the quality of football and results will vary throughout the years before he becomes the finished article. This may be a good way to go as Alex Ferguson proves. However, both the club and many of the supporters have already shown that they will not put up with such a situation with AS.

Other choices are very optimistic and forget the fact that we have very large debts and almost no chance of moving to a new stadium in the next 10 years. We need an manager with some experience and who can produce a decent team on a tight budget. For me MA fits the bill perfectly. Although some of you moan about the style of play when he was manager, he did take over a poor team and at a time when the playing budget was slashed. He made the most of what we had. And towards the end of his stay there was some excellent football played. The second leg (or was it a replay?) At GP against Southampton saw some great passing football and we were very unlucky not to win.

Release the dog...
