He will not leave Dagenham, he is Dagenham and Redbridge FC. Without him they would be back in non-league football.

Errr, how much are they paying him?
And if we off treble that?
.......sign right here, Mr. Still.
Thank you, and welcome to Brentford.

But IMO i'd hope for someone better. If this is your hope..............oh dear.

Don't press the panic button.
Still fancy Keith Hill myself.

I get the impression the club are happy to hold out for who the board really want not try and grab the best of the bunch around us or currently available.
The only problem I foresee is selling a mid table league one with a mid table squad contracted for next year to a decent manager.

Another Manager Poll

it's a simple management rule in business that you come up with a criteria and do not compromise, even if you have to wait for the righrt person.
Or even if you miss out on the right person because you p**sed about so much that the person you want is now employed elsewhere? That happens all the the time at our place because the boss is such a fanny and that's why most businesses in this country are flat on their arse. What the hell use is a shortlist if you don't intend to use it until May? Anyone that is available now and has any ounce of talent won't be available then and if they are, they ain't as talented as you thought so what's the feckin point? :banghead:

It's perfectly clear that Martin Allen won't be getting the gig so leave it to Nicky. There is no one man that the club can appoint and be guaranteed success - it's all about taking a punt on someone and hoping it pays off. He's just as good a bet as anyone else - better than most in my opinion and remember, Shankly, Clough, Busby, Ramsey, Stimson, all the great managers started out with no experience :sorted:.

Are you saying we should set our sights on John Still who has no experience of Championship football.wU maybe wrong but so far as I can see his claim to fame from many many years in football is getting two non league sides into the basement, how dies that fit our 5 year plan to consolidate a place in the league above ?

Another Manager Poll

Definite no to John Still. Top bloke and has done a great job at Dagenham but he's not the person to take us forward, in my opinion.

Keith Hill should be considered though and I still think we could lure him from Rochdale if we wanted him. I could see him doing a good job here. Another currently employed manager we may consider is Paul Tisdale. I would be a bit wary about his L1 record as he seems to blow a bit hot and cold and not all Exeter fans rate him. But he has got something about him. Rumour has it he's leaving Exeter at the end of the season though, most likely to take up the post at Swindon. Would rather have Hill anyway though.

As I said the other day, if Doncaster's form continues, may Sean O'Driscoll be looking for a new challenge? Would be perfect for us I reckon.

It was around twelve months ago that I read an article in the Grauniad about the two Sheffield sides, then both in the Championship. Guess what, the journo agreed with the opinion of the Wednesday chairman that Wednesday had the right set up in place for reaching the Premiership, better than United. Twelve months on.........oh, dear!
Having a five-year plan, not rushing an appointment, etc, maybe it'll work, I don't know. We might equally end up with the next Terry Butcher. I like Nicky alot, but he needs to be able to quickly assess talent at this level. Couldn't we have just quickly appointed Gary Johnson on a two-year contract and if it doesn't work out 'cos everyone hates him, we just say goodbye in twelve months? One thing for sure, he knows what's needed at this level. Northampton were on to him straight away.

Johnson had a touch of booing as he was announced today.

Just been told why, it's to do with his Peterboro roots and the rivalry.
Never seen this before but the PG equivalent asked the crowd to applaud the recently sacked Ian Sampson (17 years at the club) and the crowd went into a "Sammo, Sammo..." frenzy, then he introduced the new man and a fair bit of booing was heard.

Fully agree with the post BB, however, my guess is that the new manager (or shortlist) in mind is not on this list. Probably not available for one reason or another.

Bizarre. He managed Peterborough for a few months and left acrimoniously, he doesn't support them (as we know he's a Fulham ****).

If we announced O'Driscoll as manager, would we boo him because of a short stint with Fulham murkying his past? Doubt it.

I'm pretty sure we won't be perfect for him.
First off, his most likely next step could well be Sheff Utd, who wanted him when Gary Speed left and will want him even more when they fire Micky Adams in the near future.
If not Sheff Utd, I just don't him departing a Championship club and choosing as his next challenge a Division One club with average gates in the 5000 region.
More likely: Coventry City, Derby County, Huddersfield Town, Bradford City, or as a long shot either of Birmingham City or Blackburn should either of them get relegated.
Will go to a bigger club than us.

I imagine it is because he has only managed 7 games so far in his managerial career. By the way I am not saying I agree with them but can copletely understand their concerns. Personally I am taking the board view and will give NF till the end of the season before I form my opinion on his managerial abilties and suitability for the job.

Another Manager Poll

It worries me that just because Forster has had a good start, we are in the same mould as when AS started as Manager. We need an experienced Manager who can really take us forward, not another rookie Manager who has a few good results to start with. It really is worrying that we are leaving it until the season end to decide what to do.

He has surprised them all though.Nicky Forster didnt have a clue what to do when he took on the role but, with a little help from his tried and trusted,he has done remarkably well imo.Hence the the modesty of the man himself.I personally want NF to be appointed an assistant manager by the club to steer him through till the end of the season but that is not going to happen im afraid.Shame..........And i do not want anyone telling me he has got Warburton please because i do not for one believe that he would be Fozzy's choice.

Cheers unBEE, but lets face it if xxx experienced manager had taken over and had the same results people would be saying, not bad, in fact some would say pretty good. I am / was unsure of NF as a replacement however watching him from my seat in the New Road he looked a far more composed and understanding Manager / motivator than AS on the touchline. The results and type of play so far have been a vast improvement of the last few weeks. IMHO rgds

I agree with most of that and that makes him more unlikely than somebody like Curbishley or Di Matteo. But just to be picky, no manager in their right mind would rather manage Bradford than us right now. And Sheff Utd are going to have a severely cut budget for next season, assuming they come down. He probably would end up at a bigger club than us if he left Doncaster but there would be no harm in enquiring. Certainly for any manager who takes his next job in League One, we are a very attractive proposition and would be considered. But as you say, O'Driscoll's next job is likely to be in the Championship. But then who expected Gary Johnson to drop down to Northampton..? And although Southampton are a much more attractive proposition than us, that Adkins would drop down to League One? I would guess we are in a healthier financial position than several Championship clubs.

Amazing youth set up. Great facilities. Very good crowds. Swiss owner has some money also. Should be back in the Premiership within five seasons.
Sheff United have problems, but still the potential is there over time.
If we get out act together we can a well-run compact little Championship side (like Blackpool?).

I'm not sure what the question is. On February 3 NF was asked and agreed to assume responsibility for the team for the Plymouth and Exeter matches and the board offered to him the support of Mark Warburton who is a hugely respected coach with a wide range of contacts in football. The immediate target for the board was to bring to a halt the poor run that we had been on since the narrow January 1 home win over D&R and win both the Plymouth and Exeter matches. NF himself has said that the duo complement each other and that they work well together. MW has major input into the training sessions and has all of the qualifications and experience that NF clearly needed for support. As you know the NF/MW interim management team have been confirmed in place through the end of the season which the board believed was the right thing to do to provide some certainty and stability whilst the team management for next and future seasons is still under consideration.

TBH RB I dont think there is any furore, there is much love for Nicky. However, it should not detract what the club needs to do in its own best interests. Some supporters on here (including myself) do not believe Nicky is the long term answer (at least as the main man) for Brentford at this point in time, nothing personal. Even if we won or lost the majority of games remaining I don't think my stance would change on this. Just feel we need to aim higher, and we can, so we should.

NF has an assistant in Mark Warburton a highly qualified coach. You seem to be suggesting that you have information that NF would like to have an assistant of his own choosing and this is less than one week after NF agreed with enthusiasm to continue through to the end of the season with MW as his assistant. So the answer is that NF should come to the Exec Team and explain why he would want another assistant.

i do think some people should chill... i applaud the forster/warburton choice... i said before that whereas football managers should be aware of players with potential (hopefully who will fulfill it and some), those in charge behind the scenes should then be aware of management/coaches with potential. i really believe that is the case with these two... if it had been my choice i'd have employed them both to the end of next season but think their current deals are a sensible compromise.

I cannot understand why absentbee should not be able to comprehend what he calls negative posts to abee. Some of us have been around a long time re BFC, and are tiring of what is likely to be another copy of the AS situation, that is a decent run after the disappearance of the previous failure of a manager. NF is, no doubt, a decent bloke, but new Manager - NO. We need to do what Northampton Town have had the guts to do - employ a decent Manager now, and not wait until the end of the season. We need a Manager with real experience, and give him the opportunity to sort these bloody players out. Get rid of those not performing and bring in players who will be of benefit to BFC. Otherwise, in 30 years time we will still be watching the crap we are being subjected to now. Forwards who can't score goals, and defenders who appear to be disjointed as far as teamwork is concerned. We are fed up with a second rate performance in virtually every match, and need a real prescence from a real Manager to sort this lot out.

Did you consider the possibility that the manager the board may have earmarked to take the club forward is currently in employment and therefore not simply able to pitch up to GP and take over the reigns ? Be patient. We all want the best for the club and I believe the Board have earned out trust that they will appoint the right man to progress the team. People questioned the appointment of AS, but although he sadly lost his way, if the new manager enjoys the success he did in his first two seasons then they'll be few people who won't be very pleased.

For what it's worth, I don't think Nicky Forster will be manager next season. Just my gut feeling. I think the fact he has been given until the end of the season, rather than tied down to a longer deal speaks volumes and if no better option was currently avaliable, has proved to be a shrewd move in the interim.

I hear your frustration but I think the board have got the balance right. Its is important we get the right Man (men) and therefore may mean waiting if that individual is not available just yet. That does not mean chosing the best of what remains if they dont meet the criteria just because you have a post to fill, it means waiting. NF is ideally placed to fill the interim period imo which will hopefully avoid us getting into a situation like Bristol Rovers where they have sacked Dave Penney after 12 games (or whatever). I do however believe that we will need the long term replacement in place as soon as possible after the end of the season as we will need to be extremely busy in the transfer market, as I think wholesale changes are necessary.

It all sounds so easy doesn't it when you put it like that. Decent manager who is on the market appointed, job done, Business Plan agreed and only players brought in who will be of benefit to BFC, onwards and upwards and what's the next item on the agenda.

The reality is that the 'decent managers' to whom you refer (one of whom you want us to appoint immediately) are almost without exception those who are currently jobless and on the market. Many are out of work because for whatever reason they were let go by their former clubs. I also suggest that every manager brings players to his club that supposedly are 'of benefit' and it's hard to see a situation where any manager tells his board........'I'm bringing this player in who I don't believe will be any benefit but I'm doing it anyway'.

I recognise your viewpoint.....you would like us to appoint a manager who could be the best of the bunch from those immediately available. They have to be immediately available because you want someone appointed right here right now. The boards position is that we'd rather have a template for the way forward for this Club, decide who we want and then try and get him rather than go down the tried and oft found wanting route of .......who is out of work, who can we appoint who won't cost us any compensation and let's get this done and dusted. I would have thought that it was exactly this thinking which has led to us being a fixture in the bottom two divisions. In other words you would like presumably a bog standard lower division manager who is out of work brought in forthwith or fifthwith if that's quicker and off we go again.

I can't say that I agree but I respect your opinion.

I hope Forster stays

Well then, with the greatest of respect you're off your head!! His recent "tweaks" signing Prem. youngsters who have never played a 1st team game for their respective clubs says it all for me. We don't score goals & badly need a loan striker not midfield kids!!! NF would be a disaster as a permanent manager in my opinion. It must not happen.

:sorted:I would also add that as much research you do its still a gamble whoever we get and fully support the way the board are going about this appointment. There have been many success stories over the years at clubs outside the premiership who have recruited from within their club rather than go for the usuall pool of ex managers doing the rounds.Bournmouth MK dons,S****horpe,Reading,Watford plus many others.I would love the present management team come good,a couple of good signings and who knows.Think they have done well considering what they have had to work with some tough games coming up just hope the fans are prepared to have a bit of patience.
