Another Manager Poll

Ok i'm very sorry Davee. I shall reiterate my point again, however this time I shall balance out my arguement with some Scott negatives;

AS came here played some of the worst football I have ever seen, allienated the fans, reduced gates by nearly 2 thousand, made some very strange transfer signings, never had a plan B when losing and some of his substitions were strange to say the least. So why would we appoint another rookie in Forster when someone with a proven track record is a safer option to avoid this happening again.

I hope that makes you feel better and i'm sorry I even mentioned the unspeakables name :horns: :sorted:

I agree!

Just want Foz to get some recognition for a job well done, and being such a decent guy...

Just on his Twitter....

Big thanks to all who have supported both Brentford and me this season, been a fantastic adventure I am proud to have been a part of.

Well if it is the end for nicky I hope the board have a very strong contender lined up as I think NF has done a very good job with the resources available to him. If it is the end I would like to say thanks for what you have done for the club since you took over and maybe 1 day we will see you back again at GP.

I agree. 29 pts from 19 games - which I think would be 70-71 over a full season. Not quite enough for play-offs, but he was having to do it with someone's else squad, with just a few loanees to top it up. All depends whether those making the decision believe he could go one step further with resources to bring players in. If not, I'd wish him all the best wherever he ends up (except against us).

Total wild speculation, subject to whether it AM meant before 10 days, in around 10 days or after 10 days. But the second-leg of the play-off semis are 16th to 20th May across the three divisions. Conference final is on 21st....

I'll check that out when it becomes available on Bees Player.

I very much doubt we will be bringing in a Conference manager. I do think the 'ten days' comment is being overanalysed and taken out of context. Or in some cases, another stick to beat the club with!

It's a very good record with the squad he inherented and the recent injury crisis, I'm hoping he will be offered a role managing the new developmental squad, if the new bloke doesn't mind.

Agreed, surely now he's got a taste for it, he'll want to try his luck as a number one elsewhere. I reckon a role in the development squad is tailor made for Warburton ;)

IMO we had a potentially a good manager in Nicky Forster ready to take over and it seems they ( BFC) have decided he's not the " special one". I hope they know what they are doing ?

Just to avoid any disappointment - we weren't expecting Andrew to speak to Bees Player today, the show wasn't recorded (as it never is at away games where we only generally provide commentary), and there won't be highlights available.

I think to be fair that you underestimate Fozzy's achievement. He was called off the training ground as a player on a thursday and put in the manager's chair. No pre season, no time to plan, no opportunity to get his own team together. He certainly has achieved far more than AS. OK the season before last we finished in the same position more or less but this season AS took us to within 2 points of the drop zone with his 'new' squad and the team and its morale were shot. Fozzy hauled us back and changed the style. I'd like Fozzy to get the job but if he doesn't, I'll be well annoyed if we get an underwhelming appointment.

In his Brentford career AS achieved far more or is winning a League not an achievement? Forster has done very well in the circumstances and deserves credit for what he has done since February but how much is his and how much is Warburton's? Should he be in charge and win promotion next season then he'll have achieved more than AS.

If Forster isn't in charge then he has to leave the club. It would not be good for the club, Forster, the new man and the squad.

I'm fed up of hearing Di Matteo described as a 'name'. He was a name when he first took over at Franchise FC but he's more than proven himself as an excellent Football League manager with them and West Brom. He has experience of promotion in higher leagues than Buckle, he's wheeled and dealed with bigger budgets than Buckle and his sides play an excellent brand of football. Torquay fans have been critical of their side for a lack of goals (sound familiar?) and playing 4-5-1 at home. Makes me laugh how people say they'd rather have Forster or Buckle than Di Matteo or Coppell as manager but then bemoan the club for lack of ambition. Some people are in for a shock over the next few years...

Dunno, better than giving up your boots for the dole? And I suppose it depends on how controlling new bloke is?

Mr Scott made over 200k last year in salary and pay-off from us at BFC so can relax easy this summer, what for Nicky?

No tasty pay off for a sh*t job, almost the reverse.

.

AS/Nicky comparisons are a complete dead-end so far as I am concerned. The main issue now is whether the person whom the Board is looking to appoint is likely to improve signficantly on what we have. A difficult judgement of course because it is always a bit of a stab in the dark but I reckon that on that basis only the following are worth pursuing:

DiMatteo - a no brainer
Coppell - though highly unlikely
Hill - just about. Much more experienced than Nicky, brilliant record, knows the league

Of the others, Hughton and Tisdale are probabaly the strongest but I don't think CH is interested and I just can't get excited about the cravated one! So anyone other than the three mentioned and I think Nicky would have every right to be disappointed. I certainly would be!

Another Manager Poll

As I see it based on what we know/here

The club need to appoint someone with reasonable credentials. To me that person will be Di Matteo with Warburton as his assistant because he will know the current squad of players.

As I said in another earlier post Nicky wouldn't stay on if he didn't get the job. I hope he does but can't see it somehow.

Completely this. Thanks Forster for sorting out our season and best of luck in the future, however I can't help but think anyone with a reasonable footballing brain and a modicum of humility would have gotten us out of trouble with the squad we have. We were not a bottom 6 side this season and I think it goes to show that AS had taken us as far as he could when we were languishing down there.

Now we are in a position financially to really strengthen the club we should take this opportunity to appoint a serious manager with a proven track record at Championship level and hopefully build a promotion winning side within the next 2 seasons. I can't see that Forster is that man despite the solid, if unspectacular job he has done since he took over.

Interesting to note that whilst Nicky Forster has (to date) only had twenty-one games in charge, which doesn't really merit too great a comparison with those who had much longer in the job, his record over that time stands up well against any other Brentford manager in the last forty years.

Leaving aside Steve Coppell - who is far and away the most successful in terms of a win ratio - Nicky Forster's 43% win ratio is only bettered by Martin Allen and Phil Holder, both with 44%.

Another Manager Poll

Having Nicky Forster in any other position other than manager would be counter-productive.

If things go badly it would be easy for the club to sack him and put Nicky back in charge. Imagine we have a bad start there will be grumbles saying why didn't Forster get the job but he is only in the back-room staff and calls to bring him back leading to a quiet GP again. The squad might prefer Forster's methods behind the scenes and not play for him, although if that's the case they should get lost.

The only position Nicky Forster should be in next season, if with the club, is manager. I don't think he would be happy being told he is number two/development squad. He might want to be manager elsewhere.

It's just dawned on me that we are probably not going to appoint Mark Stimson. Devastated.... :(

Thats awesome, didnt know it was that good if im honest. With a group of players which you have inherieted with a long injury list!

Forster is tailor made for the gaffers job next season if he is allowed to appoint his own back room staff,if not forget it.Warburton for youth and reserves is where he is suited.Robert di Matteo could do a job,i am sure of that,if he could be enticed to GP.Does he know where we are? Paul Buckle knows this league inside and out through his contacts within the football league,he is no mug i can tell you.The selection commitee have a difficult choice with limited applications who can tick their boxes and can satisfy their criteria and that is why they cannot produce a name, yet. As i seem to get a response, albeit a negative one,i ask do they have a name or are they in no mans land with their selection? Why can they say nothing when Fozzy had his interview on 20th april and it is now 7th of may.Has he got the job or not?

I thought Fozzie originally joined us with a 2-year playing contract? Might he say that he wants to pick up with that again if he gets no managerial offers?

Not a chance will he drop back into the ranks. Think we will see his contract 'terminated by mutual agreement'. Always knew the 2 year deal was stupid but then so was Scott so hey ho...

Agree. This thought that if Forster doesn't get the job he could have a job in some other capacity at the club is absurd. Look at Barnet/Crewe. How many times have Fairclough and Gradi come back into the "hotseat"? The difference is both of them are much older. If Forster doesn't get the job I hope we do right by him, at worst place him on "gardening leave".

Wally Downes Junior made a song and dance about it on Twitter before removing it. Forster's own comments only serve to back it up really. And let's face it, he won't be getting the job ahead of McInnes or Di Matteo.

Time to move on, Forsterites...

Another Manager Poll

I doubt very much that he's on the shortlist, whatever the Chronny says. Makes absolutely no sense and stands no chance against the other two candidates. Mills spoke about a 'final two' and I believe it's very much between Roberto Di Matteo and Derek McInnes. But then what do I know...

However much I like NF I don't think he is the man for the job.Let me stick out my neck again, ( last time it was chopped off !) I think if Lee and Mac had kept fit we would have got into the playoffs. Charlie's experience was missed and Lee brought confidence to the defence. someone else?

No point, it will be over soon. It's only really between two. Forster has been told it's not him, people need to start realising this. And I'd take Justin Edinburgh being linked to the job with a huge dollop of salt. It's between McInnes and Di Matteo which I think is fantastic for the club :D
