Ashes 3rd Test

Ashes 3rd Test

you neglected to mention that he is out for the 4th and 5th also. Surgery has taken place :-(

Step up the Sherminator !

Ashes 3rd Test

Rest of series according to this.

No massive surprise but clearly a massive loss.

Bell is next in line and might be better batting at four - or even five if they promote Collingwood - than he was at three.

Our line-up looks less imposing without Pietersen. However well, or not, he was playing he had an aura.

Ashes 3rd Test

I will have to say that my innings victory prediction has now become a 9 wicket win.

Ashes 3rd Test

It's got to be Rob Key for me.

Ashes 3rd Test

that is bad news indeed. :sorted:

Ashes 3rd Test

Bugger. Not happy about Bell at all either... But then, I'm not sure Key's a convincing bet either. :(

Ashes 3rd Test

How about an 'all rounder' get someone who can bat and also bowl abit ???

Ashes 3rd Test

I would now go for

Strauss
Cook
Bell
Key
Collingwood
Prior
Flintoff
Swann
Anderson
Harmisson
Onions

With Pietersen out and Bopara/Broad lack of form.

Hundreds in three consecutive matches and dropped after two bad ones.

You're a hard task master.

Ashes 3rd Test

Wouldn't be at all surprised to see the following:

Strauss
Cook
Bopara
Bell
Collingwood
Prior
Flintoff
Broad
Swann
Anderson
Harmison

Panesar if it's a spinners track and Onions if fit and it's a seamers paradise.

Possibly Key & Moore on standby for the batties.

Ashes 3rd Test

We are DOOOOMED if Bell is involved he is terrified of australians as one bit him when he was a child.

Collingwood and Bopara already fit the bill here, don't they?

Not sure I'd see either as a test all-rounder, though Collingwood can contribute a few overs in a quiet period. However, I don't think we have anyone who can bat top 5-6 and contribute 2-3 wickets per game.

It's probably more of an issue if Flintoff is unfit later in the series when, if we're still leading, I'd expect us to play an extra batsman and go in with 4 bowlers and use the few Collingwood overs I mentioned above

Ashes 3rd Test

Strauss
Cook
Key
Bopara
Collingwood
Prior
Flintoff
Swann
Broad
Anderson
Harmison

We can bat all the way down the order (Harmison is no mug with the bat - highest score = 49* vs. South Africa).

Ashes 3rd Test

There will only be one change from Lords. Bell on his home track for KP. Bell will only get the one chance, if he fails then it's up for grabs. I would love to see Harmison in, but they won't swap around a winning side, & to be honest what has Onions done wrong.

Ashes 3rd Test

9 overs, 0 for 50 when we were trying to get 10 wickets on Sunday and Monday...
i think Harmy will be in for Onions. harsh on the Onion-man, but Harmison's not just banging on the door, he's crashed on through it...

I did warn these plebs that Onions was a one game wonder. However if it's cloudy at Headingly or somewhere in the future he might get a few wickets again but in reality he isn't good enough.

Think that's a bit harsh. He's got a lot to prove to become a first choice, but as a reliable back up (for Broad, for example) I think he looks like he's got something. haven't seen enough to really make my mind up yet, but wouldn't write him off either.

Ashes 3rd Test

I believe in Ian Bell , he will do the business this time especially as no Warne to get under his skin .

Ashes 3rd Test

Aussies are currently 64-2 in their tour game at Northampton. Hughes went for 10 continuing his poor spell with the bat. Ponting, Clarke and Haddin rested.

Hughes, Katich, M Hussey (C), North, S Watson, McDonald, Manou (W), M Johnson, Hauritz, Siddle, Clark

Ashes 3rd Test

Bell will start in the Third Test, well he is the man in form after all.

Ashes 3rd Test

Aussies 7/4, England 10/3 and the draw is evens.

I'm down there Friday along with the rain by the looks of it :banghead:

Not keen on Bell, reckon he could come in at 5 with Collingwood pushed up. The Aussies are gonna want to nail him early and Bell will be under enormous pressure.

Ashes 3rd Test

Game could go either way as neither side has too many players who are consistent and reliable. Given the weather forecast, and reports last week that the pitch was already in a sorry state, I think a draw looks the most likely outcome

Ashes 3rd Test

surely if the pitch is in a sorry state, as reported, then a result looks most definately on. Could the toss be even more crucial Thursday morning than most, bit of cloud and moisture in the air, jelly like strip, either team lunching at 98-6...?

Yeah if there is one thing the Aussies are really good at is targeting players that they think are suspect. It will be a big personal battle for Bell and if him comes through it then all credit to the man.:sorted:

If you took that view Bopara, Cook and Pieterson would not be in the side

I am pleased Bell is back in the side, he is technically our best batsmen, if he can overcome the Aussies it will only be good for England

Ashes 3rd Test

Bell will bat at four, but I would have preffered having him at five with Collingwood moving up to four. Apart from that, I guess the only possible change could be Harmison for Onions as i'm not sure Monty did enough to convince the selectors he's back to his best (apart from with the bat!).

The result could come down to how bold Australia are with their selection. Do they stick with Johnson or be ruthless and drop him. It sounds like Clark will play, and possibly Watson too, which could mean someone like North or Hughes getting dropped.

As an England fan i'd be very happy to see Watson playing as Australia's number six.

Edgbaston groundsman has hinted that the weather has casused a likely turning wicket. So there may be a need for 2nd spinner, albeit he will have to bowl better than at Cardiff.

A slightly damp wicket can get a fair bit of turn (from my experience). It doesn't always have to be dusty.

Hughes proberbly did enough in the game at Northampton to deserve another chance.

Ashes 3rd Test

The weather looks like having a huge influence on this match. Along with the apparent state of the pitch all signs point towards a draw.

The forecast doesn't look too bad for the next two days but the state of the outfield, it is drenched in puddles, must mean a delayed start tomorrow.

Awful day in WM yesterday, but a windy dry night & bright sunshine this morning. The groundsman were working through the night..so I'm hopefull that not to much time is lost. Chirst knows what the wicket is like as it would of been covered the last week & here's to Strauss winning a third toss on the row. Ball should swing so whom will England pick.. Onions or Harmison.

Ashes 3rd Test

The ground was almost underwater last night.

I don't think Edgbaston has that new drainage system.

They might get a start by noon but any sort of heavy shower just won't pass through that ground.

Hopefully it will rain for all five days of the next three tests, thus we win the series 1-0 and that weasel Ponting has to go back to the land of convicts with his tail between his legs! :sorted:

That's an old picture of my other New Road. Must be from a couple of years ago, where's the new Hick pavillon.
