As far as I understand, Roy King has not managed big match situations at Griffin Park very well. Frankly, this does not endear him to me and therefore, I have a right to voice my concerns over this matter, whether or not the BU committee sanctioned this move or not, or whether they even have the right to. The BFC board has sanctioned this move, and I find it hard to believe that they are unaware of the supporters' feelings over Roy King, and therefore have not prepared themselves, media-wise, properly. Everyone knows that he was appointed during Noades' tenure, and therefore this would be a controversial appointment.
I am not doubting that Roy King can do the job, only time will tell and those in the know will understand the selection process. However, the BFC board must have been aware of feelings from a section of the fans, but have done little to address this. Again, I feel this is a PR letdown with little information provided to fans. Therefore, the criticisms levelled at Roy King are justified.
Over time, we have always criticised the on-field situation, be it Brentford (on a lesser level) or the England national team, where media scrutiny is at its highest. Regardless, criticism is the same throughout and with the age of the internet, people have been increasingly fed news about the backroom scenes and therefore people will increasingly voice their opinions as a matter of course.
As it happens, the term General Manager, in my understanding, is about a role that encompasses every aspect of a business. Clear and precise knowledge about every aspect is imperative in order for such a role to succeed. As a General Manager myself, I have had to take up numerous courses to improve my areas of weaknesses, including legal affairs and accounting, and I believe that has stood me in good stead to be General Manager of our business. I have to audit a great of our processes from accounts to logistics, and from retail ventures through to our manufacturing plants. I am not trying to be sanctimonious, although I believe I am successful in my role, but I sincerely hope that Roy King does possess these similar traits or I would question why he is in that role. As a concerned fan, I have every right to voice these concerns, although like most (I suspect), I hope Roy King can prove me wrong.
If not, then surely then surely I am within my rights to question the BFC board for appointing him, and the BU board for appointing certain members to the BFC board. Aren't I?
