Having watched it evolve over 5 decades i cant agree.
Fighters come fighters go and the game shifts from fight to fight,champion to champion.
There are umpteen champions from the past who could not live in this era especially through the 1980s with the exception being Mike Tyson.

He was struggling with his nose from the first or second round.

Yeah I couldn’t believe he said that, just shocking. He was out boxed and I’m surprised his corner was blowing smoke up his backside rather than tell him he needed a knock out.

It was intended as slight sarcasm, but Usyk was the clear winner for me and I thought the ref stopped the fight in the 9th round. I've not seen a ref step in like that and then give someone a 10 count before, I'm probably wrong on that. I had it even after 4, Tyson winning the next 3, then Usyk winning the the rest but 1 with a 10-8 round included

Think it was a draw for me, but if either man is was the winner it was Usyk. Not sure how the judge scored it Usyk by 3.

It wasn't the best, but it was light years ahead of that horrific Anthony Joshusa nonsense after one of his fights recently. Made me deeply dislike the man.

For me Usyk was a clear winner. I can see how you can score 3 out of the first 4 to Usyk to be honest. Fur'ys punches seemed to cause more damage but Usyk was landing clean punches throughout. The result certainly had nothing to do with the war in Ukraine and if you suggest that, as Fury did, then I reckon your head has been wobbled

The two scorecards for him were fair ( one round and 3 rounds ) but what the hell was the one given to Fury all about?

Agreed - normally the ref steps in to stop the fight not administer a 10 count if the fighter hasn't touched the canvas so that was bizarre.

I thought it was an excellent fight with Fury slightly ahead after 6 or 7 rounds and Usyk then finishing the stronger.

There wasn't much in it but Usyk did enough to get the decision.

Usyk is one of the best in the modern era, such a tidy boxer, a real warrior.

I've just looked up BBBC rules and this is allowed if the boxer is being held up by the ropes but it is rarely used.

Anyone who thought Fury was even close to winning that fight knows nothing about boxing and is deluded. Usyk is the best heavyweight of his generation by a country mile. First time either Fury or AJ have come up against a great fighter in his prime, they have come up short. For someone giving up so much weight and reach, Osyk is unbelievable.

Not regarding the result, but in terms of their personal motivation I think Usyk was fighting for a far greater cause.

Usyk amatuer pedigree will always stand him in good stead in fights that go the distance...in the tight rounds especially. He edged the first two rounds and easily won rounds 8-12 with a 10-8 in the 8th. So no way Fury was getting the decision.
Credit to the ref though. Thought Fury was gone and should have been stopped. As a result we got the full 12 rounds.

I had to watch the fight with the commentary off. I can understand the bias but they were insinuating that Usyk was edging rounds with one punch here or there despite being the aggressor in said round.
Glad Usyk won..the antics of Fury and his camp compared with Usyk, who held himself with grace and decorum.

Usek is one of the greatest pound for pound fighters of all time. He cleaned out cruiserweight and heavyweight. Fought everyone. Absolute class. If the re-match happens in October, I hope Usek kicks Fury's arse again.

Really Surprised A Real Mysteron.

Usyk is an absolute animal who is utterly relentless, fast hands and stamina ive never seen before. He everyone in the division below and is doing it again against men much bigger than him. Fury was 3.5 stone heavier last night and had an huge height difference too!

Say what you want about Fury and AJ, I’ve never really been a big fan of the latter, they’ve given British boxing some incredible nights over the last decade.

Usyk is better than both of them but no shame in losing to an absolute machine like him, he’s an all time great.

Following on from an earlier post,i reckon Michael Tyson (87-90) and Lennox Lewis are 2 that could give Usyk a close run because he is that good.
All the pundits did the talking and Tony Bellew was the one who you had to listen too more than any other.
He got the fight spot on.

Prime Lewis beats Usyk at heavyweight and prime Holyfield arguably does at cruiserweight. Tyson is interesting - would be the smaller guy but was an animal up close so that would be a good fight.

well uysk will win in better fashion in the rematch and got all the marbles and there is no legit contenders only one who deserves it is joseph parker but i cant see him doing over uysk.

For me, Usyk is a heavyweight version of Mayweather.
Firstly, the best in the World (at that time), but also changed their style to combat their opponents - if they had to be defensive then they would, but they still controlled fights from a defensive standpoint.

I found myself feeling guilty going into the fight that I was backing Usyk over Fury due to being English, but I cheered so loud when Fury was chopped down in the 9th and it felt a little bit like "the good guy" will finally finish first in boxing. I was absolutely dreading the decision because if Fury had been given that fight, Boxing would have been over for me.

I got caught up a little in the Fury hype train (as i'm sure many did on here) but it's pretty clear now he's been ducking and dodging fighters in their prime all the way through his career, only once fighting Wilder in his prime. A 37 year old Usyk exposed Fury's career in the space of 12 rounds (I only gave Fury 3 of those rounds) and it made me think of Ngannou, Chisora, White, Wilder 3, Helenius, waiting until Joshua was rock bottom to offer him a fight and still not following through with it. And then it made me think, was Fury waiting for Usyk to get older to fight him, did the "cut" delay things deliberately? Do we know the whole story there? Quietly I'm starting to think that maybe the cut wasn't an accident.

There is another side of this, Fury does have the chance to be a hero again but it wont be pretty. He needs the best PR people around him, he needs to put the muscle back on, he needs (for his ego and his fans ego) to film himself doing the extremely hard yards (in a humble fashion) in training for the rematch if it happens, he needs to admit he got schooled by Usyk and he needs to get his father off the camera and out of his corner.

If he does the above and somehow manages to take Usyk to a 3rd decider fight, he will regain a lot of his reputation. If he sulks, blames the ref/war/injury etc for his loss, then he might as well retire because it's over. Bricktop Warren has a hell of a task on his hands, but for the good of boxing I hope we get a 2nd fight and a stronger/more humble Fury.

Whose even more gutted than Fury? Probably, Anthony Joshua. The man is back in no mans land.

Does he have that hunger now that he has lost or will he retire having earnt enough to give his family an incredible life? I agree about Joshua - he has lost to Usyk twice so surely there won't be a 3rd fight so he will have to see if the IBF strip Usyk and then maybe fight Hrgovic or Dubois for that belt in Sept.

Yep exactly, the problem for Fury is if he retires in this fashion it may well go downhill very very quickly for him. He may well have all the money in the world now but we've seen with the likes of Conor Mcgregor what too much money can do to a man who's entire world is based around their combat skills. I'm 50/50 on whether we'll see Fury again, but for the good of his legacy i'd say he needs to push for that rematch.

AJ may well be a heavyweight champ again via the Hrgovic route but the era now undisputedly belongs to Usyk and that fire we've seen recently from AJ and Hearn might be a little bit lessened.

It feels like this era is coming to an end doesn't it, hopefully Moses Itauma is the next big thing because I'm not sure Dubois will ever get beyond the Dillion Whyte level.

Yeah Hrgovic beats Dubois in 2 weeks I think - not much out there apart from Usyk at the moment at the top level. The fact that Parker is probably the 4th best heavyweight out there tells you all you need to know about the mediocrity of that division right now - I much prefer watching the other divisions where there are elite level fighters.

Jack Catterall beats Josh Taylor unanimously on points in the big rematch.

A very comfortable victory for Catterall who was better throughout the fight.

Goes some way to righting a very big wrong from the first fight 2 years ago.

Shame it took so long, and that Taylor lost the title that Catterall so clearly actually won in the meantime.
Probably the most bent decision I’ve ever seen in a British ring.

Totally agree. After watching the first fight I said I was done with boxing,cheated catterall out of becoming a world champion.

Not for me that is how I scored the fight. Taylor upped the work rate middle part of the fight, but was walking onto shots left right and centre. Just coming forward being aggressive doesn’t win rounds if you are constantly getting caught with shots.
