Haye is odds on with Valuev 13/8 last time i looked. Sure it will go the distance and judges always seem to favour the homer.

Gone £2.50 for Valuev Round 5 and Round 6 and a tenner to win, only got 28s on the round and evens on the win though.

I think that last round had quite a bearing on the result.

Boring fight but Haye got the tactics spot on, defensive from the start but became aggressive towards the end. Would have been incredible if Valuev had toppled over at the end. "His head was like punching a brick"-Haye !

He might have 'had him' in the last round but he was about three rounds behind at that stage... unbelievable decision.

You can't win a fight on one round if you are behind in the others...

Styles make fights and this was the only way really Haye was going to win.


The art of boxing is to hit and not be hit and although valuev was lumbering
forward all his work mainly missed and easily avoided with skillfull ease.Almost
all of Hayes hit including the crucial last round.


I remember watching some Eubank fights in the nineties,believing some of
the challengers had easily won the decision, untill you watch them back
you could see the skill behind eubanks work .

Boring but very skillful!

i agree.

watched it in a working mens club, i thought Haye 'boxed' better. Valuev just didn't throw a punch/jab which connected enough. I think at one point it showed Haye's punches connecting at 40% to Valuevs 25%, even though Valuev threw more punches. It is IMO better for boxing to get the 'freak' out of the ring. When/If Haye fights either of the Klitscko (sp?) brothers, then we'll see a boxing match.

Haye IMO won it on boxing not by standing in the middle of the ring trying to hit their opponent like Valuev.

There was no doubt from about six 5 live correspondance that Haye was well ahead going into the final round (probably by 3 rounds) which he duly also won.
The only question was whether he was going to be deprived like many have been in the past over in Germany.

I was surprised with the 4 point win, I thought he might have just 1 or even be level.

Jim Watt had him 2 behind going into the last round. :shrug:
