Thought we tried to be more inventive today which is encouraging

Yep agree with that, we definitely mixed up the corners today and looked more dangerous. I know Saunders has had some criticism in recent weeks regarding his delivery but I thought it was good today.

................Stuart Dallas shows how to take a corner...............

Corners

We could have david Beckham taking our corners and we'd still be no nearer to scoring from one

Corners

Oh, for the days of Evans and Millen. Corners were almost like penalties back then. :love2:

And Batesy! Legge. Kruse. McNichol. Powell..... Stop it

Corners

For me craig and dean attack corners like they are trying to make headed clearances rather than make an attempt on goal. Only time we ever look like scoring is when the corner is scuffed comes in low and somehow misses the first man.

That's a fair point, Dallas takes a really nice outswinging corner (maybe 5/6 yesterday) and i dont think we won one of them. Such a waste as the delivery was consistently decent.

Surprised you didn't give Shane Westley a mention. He was deadly in the home game against Cardiff in the FA Cup in 1993.....

I choose not to recall Mr. Westley's 'efforts' for the Bees. :grey:

Corners

I've almost reached the point when I think we would pose more of a threat if we handed the oppo a goal kick and hope the kipper scuffs it to one of our forwards. We win so many corners but rarely offer any threat whatsoever, most of the time the delivery isn't that bad, we just don't seem to attack the ball with enough vigor or it goes miles over or wide?

Corners

Corners are like our all round play At the moment devoid of imagination, tempo, pressure and anything but going through the you tone playing it ssfe

Corners

My problem is when we are defending them. Why dont we leave at least one man up. Every time we clear the ball it comes straight back because we have 11 players in the area.

im thinking of writing to uwe to explain the situation lol

one of the craziest tactics ever used at gp...especially when youre a goal down Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Corners

Personnally don't care how we defend them would rather focus on how we might actually be able to score from one

As long as we score more from them than we concede, that is.

I suppose it's the choice between another body in the box to add to our defensive strength or one up which might let us concede. I'm happy not to concede and that's working OK.

Corners

Take a look at how many goals we have conceded this season from corners??? Thats the reason...enough said.

Corners

You only had to go last night to watch how bad we were ,none made the penatly spot area let alone the net as for defending one WELL seeing was believing poor allround must try harder ?

Corners

Didn't Harlee Dean have one cleared off the line from a Forshaw corner last night?

Corners

did we score from that corner No case prooved, ps lets be honest we are poor from corners allround

I dont think I've seen one conceded all season. But when you are 1 down with 20 minutes to go surely you have to take a bit of a risk. Swindon had 2 players up when we had a corner, even when they were 1-0 up, and it definitely caused us problems.

Corners

...............far better today...............

Corners

We haven't looked threatening from corners since Terry Evans played for us.

Corners

As touched upon in my County match Report, we seem to lack a Leon Legge type player who really attacks coners at the moment. Harlee is the closest we've got but he seems to mistime his headers an awful lot.

Corners

Another wasted eight corners today, although TC did flick one on, but on the plus side didn't concede from their corner , :sorted:

... and what a threat. A goal every 10 games, and 8 in 1991/92

Corners

Well actually our first goal did come from a corner!!!! Not how we would expect to score from one but a goal from a corner nonetheless!

Corners

Interesting to see variations last night ok didn't come of but at least not cleared by the first defender

Corners

Liked the variety of short, medium and long corners last night. However, I think we tried playing short a bit too often, when we did get the ball in the box we won a penalty; but Judge had some good efforts after we played it short.

Corners

Clearly someone has had some input on the training ground, and this has been something that is long overdue. Normally when a team gets a corner it generates a buzz of excitement in the crowd, but until last night I don't think we have come up with much this season to justify such hopes. Kev did go up and went close for one corner that was knocked straight across, but the short corner variation was impressive even if Gills took an age to figure out what was going on. Well done to the coaching staff, another positive under Warb's management.

Corners

With the team on an unbeaten run and the squad full of confidence, the training ground will be be a place where experiments will be taken on board positively and everyone will be working to improve their performances. I think we can look forward to more...

Corners

Nice variety last night, but can't work out why we can't pose a direct aerial threat at corners when you consider the dominance of Donaldson, Dean and Craig elsewhere on the field. Don't think we attack the ball aggressively enough in the box. Certainly shouldn't be a question of delivery given the general quality of our crossing.

Corners

We are performing well and producing goals through our creativity but corners is not our strong point with the team we have assembled.

It would be nice to get a few goals a season from corners. Our defenders do not really chip in with goals as are not a massive aerial threat. Tony Craig has never scored for the bees at all, Bidwell has never scored in his short career so far, Harlee Dean I believe has scored only 3 so far (none this season), Logan 4 for the bees (one this season). They are defenders so not really judged on the number of goals they get or neither should they be but could mean the difference between a few extra points at the end of the season if they could chip in with a couple.

If I am correct only Logan has scored this season out of our defenders and McCormack if you include him (& that was a penalty in the FA cup against Staines).

The balls in have been, on average, poor. Especially considering we're only leaving one back at the moment. But hey, I'm not going to complain, we're top of the league.

Corners

According to the book 'The numbers game' corners are over rated as means of scoring goals. The authors reckon premier teams score a goal from a corner every nine to ten games. So about four goals a season. Don't know any data about league one but the research does show how relatively rare goals from a corner are. But there is a lot of variation between teams.

We have on average about six corners a game and concede about five. Orient have nearly six and concede about six. Wolves have seven and concede five.

In a detailed analysis of Swindon they scored one goal per 30 corners. A little evidence that I swing corners are marginally more effect in scoring goals than others but this is probably for Swindon just noise. This for us gives about four goals per season from corners consistent with data from premier league

The innovation Introduced on Friday has the advantage of getting the opposition to re-position defence to deal with the variation. Perhaps we need to take more quick, short corners to retain possession and get the opponents normal defensive formation to re-act.

..............rarely appear to benefit from corner kicks.............

Corners

We are pants at all dead ball kicks. The only time we look dangerous is when Sam takes one of his specials...

Corners

I may be wrong but was Harlee at Wembley last time we scored directly from a header at a corner?

Remember Taylor notching a couple but weren't they free kicks as opposed to corners?

Harlee at Wembley is the last I can remember too!

Corners

Remember the good old days? Quick swinging ball, near post flick on, and Terry Evans steaming in to bonce it to the back of the onion bag. Unstoppable.

Don't know why the flick on corner seems to have fallen out of fashion. Get it right and its very hard to defend.

Seem go remember Arsenal doing it last year with Mertersacker and Koscielny.
