We've been crap at short corners too.

Just get the ball swung out from the keeper, over the first defender and attack the ball, not a bloody standing jump either. What's happened to footballers nowadays? Can't they run 4 yards, leap - in time with the ball - and head the bloody thing in the back of the net? It's not rocket science and nothing to do with stats.

Good point but I despair when we have corners. I guess Warburton and his coaches are working on this and I don't think we can ignore what the stats show, and also the long history of posts on corners going back to 2001 saying we are hopeless at them. Perhaps it is rocket science after all, or our players are just not good enough to take and score from corners.

Bloody simple. Curl them in with pace and swerve towards the near post beating the first man and have a big bugger there to cause mayhem and try and lick the ball on. Simple if we could just get it right.

It's never been the same since Terry Evans left, I always thought a goal was on when big Tel trundled up for a corner, if he didn't score himself he usually generated enough carnage for someone else to get a chance.

Evans scored 23 goals for us in 229 games. Legge scored nine in 69 games. Dean has scored four in 97 games. Powell scored seven in 132 games. And lastly Sanko scored eight in 80 games. So at present we are not getting near the 10% level achieved in the past. I am assuming all these goals come from corners or free kicks.

Everybody goes on about it as if we are the only team in the world who can't take a corner. It is epidemic of modern football. The continental teams gave up even bothering with corners almost 30 years ago when we still saw it as a goal scoring opportunity in this country. Our game is now overrun by foreigners who couldn't give a toss about corners and I think there is two reasons for it. Firstly the foreign players don't like heading it so there is often no point lobbing the ball in the box and secondly the defenders will have both arms round your neck and stop you from jumping and unfortunately that has become acceptable in today's game.

Personally I think coaches probably have far more important things to worry about than corners which come to nothing so they go ignored. The modern way is to take it short and maintain possession of the ball.

Even though we still have a high % of moaners at GP who groan when we play one-two's with the keeper they are in fact the ones who are out of touch. We play football in the modern way which is very unusual for teams at this level and sets us up well for next season and it will continue, I think a lot of the philosophy must come from MW.

I just hope the other awful continental trend of giving a free kick every 13 seconds for no contact that seems to be acceptable to their fans, players and referees never creeps into our football. Jesus it makes football unwatchable IMO. Roll on the WC

Scoring from a corner is and will be difficult until weak officials stop the pushing, shoving and shirt pulling antics that goes on under their noses.
Just give a few penalties and red cards out and it will change the game immediately.
