No but you prove my point, if that IS all you see from Raya's contribution.
It IS a major contribution to points being thrown away.
We need a solid goalkeeper, not just one that’s good with distribution.

I'd take the odd mistake and his brilliant distribution all day long. He's a massive influence on our football (when we don't play the long ball game!!!). All about opinion I guess.

David Raya

If he didn't make those kind of mistakes he'd be playing for one of the best teams in the Europe, so sometimes it's good for us that he makes a clanger or two so we can keep hold of him ;)

In all seriousness, he's integral to the way we play and those kind of mistake we just have to swallow from time to time. I know there's a lot of more old school fans around (probably a load on here too) who would prefer Daniels, but I don't think they see the bigger picture.

I understand your point but I'm not sure it's as simple as Old School keeping fans vs Sweeper Keeping fans with excellent distribution. Both our keepers have distinct styles for sure. Raya's distribution is Premier League level and his reactions are excellent, he is aggressive in his decision making and yes his style will result in the odd blooper. Daniels style is more conventional and perhaps conservative but his positional sense and decision making are both excellent and whilst his distribution is good we all accept it lacks the dynamism Raya brings, however Daniels is still very much a sweeper keeper (almost all modern keepers are to an extent).

The issue becomes if Raya makes too many poor decisions and it affects his confidence (as happened with Bentley). I think one of Raya's main attributes appears to be his mental strength and he doesn't let individual errors translate to a lack of confidence & decision making in his own game. We've had a couple of faux pas lately - the Boro missed punch and the pass on Saturday but then we've had the exceptional reaction save he pulled off against Coventry as well. I certainly wouldn't advocate for replacing him at this stage and I can't see Frank doing that. One thing I would say though is if Daniels did ever come in for any reason I have complete faith in him - if that makes sense.

He’s a very good keeper BUT he fecks up far too much for my liking....distribution and shot stopping superb but does some crazy sh*t far too often....I’d still play him in front of Daniels though

Best keeper in the Championship ................nuffin more to say

When IT is up front, we can mix up going long and playing out from the back. This makes pressing us harder work and more risky. However, without IT, if we go long, we are likely to lose possession. So we are under more pressure to try to play out from the back. The opponent can more easily set up to press.

I dont think we can blame Raya 100%, he is In a difficult situation when we have no presence up top.

David Raya

That's another awful error. You do have to wonder if it sends a great message to the rest of the team that Raya is seemingly undroppable ?‍♂️

David Raya

He’s been booting it long plenty of times since the mistake.
It’s like he doesn’t know when to do it & when not to.

David Raya

No challenge from Sorensen....ducked out the way

David Raya

However good some of his reflex saves are, David Raya has always made me very nervous with his decision making when it comes to passing out under pressure. Today was beyond crazy.
It’s just not normal to do that in the first 30 seconds of a game, especially when he’s been making stupid mistakes every week.
He’s got some kind of problem with making simple decisions correctly.

David Raya

Let's leave it up to Thomas for Wednesday. He is a top keeper but he hasn't had a good 2021 so far.

David Raya

It's only been an issue for the last month or so. I think he needs a word rather than being dropped.

David Raya

No chance. Raya has messed up a few times but his use of the ball is better than Daniels. You keep the best player in the shirt at this time of the season. We just have to accept that he has had a few poor ones. ?

I agree we must keep him in the side but he could have cost us today. If he wants to be a top top keeper he needs to cut out these silly errors. There is only so many times one can defend him. He really is a key player in how we play but no player should feel confident they can't be dropped.

David Raya

I’ll say one thing for Raya whilst he is prone to errors he never seems to be phased by them - they don’t seem to dent his confidence.
Whether he should be dropped or not, I’m not sure. Glad it’s not my decision ?
I wouldn't drop him, he is a better keeper than Daniels ?

David Raya

It's too many and he's gotta go. Daniels is safe hands and that's what you need. How many has he done this season? Daniels catches crosses, stops shots and doesn't fek up. That'll do

David Raya

Although they are not putting the yards in like outfield players, I think the relentless Saturday/Wednesday schedule must have its toll on keepers as well, with the concentration levels required. We're always a better team with him playing, but I wonder whether giving him just one game out would give him a bit of time to refresh himself. Not against Norwich though.

David Raya

He will learn from these mistakes and become a better keeper. I’d be surprised if he is dropped he’s a better keeper and you have to play your best players. A mistake doesn’t necessarily mean he’s had a bad game. Pulled off some good saves in recent games and some good distribution, unfortunately this moments are quickly forgotten.

David Raya

I remember folk praising Bentley until a penny dropped. I just wonder when he will cross the threshold for too many. IMO he's done that now.

Imagine if we had lost that game 0-1, think the fact that we eventually won has saved Raya from GPG meltdown, I get the fact he's better with his distribution than Daniels and I know Daniels has not played anywhere near the amount of games for us that Raya has but I can't remember any games where Daniels has played where he has made some of the comedy errors Raya makes on a regular basis.

It would just be the same old emotional wrecks, spewing ill-conceived nonsense, and it would have no impact on anything whatsoever - some Brentford fans being angry on the internet. Big deal. ?‍♂️

Weird cos last season I dont remember him dropping clangers like this. Lets hope he's had his quota for this term now. Still our No1.

David Raya

Hull cost us nothing, like today

Great keeper but giving opponents a free goal regularly is not a positive attribute

Great keeper? OK, points out of 10 for A) Positioning, B) In the air and C) Decision making (e.g. coming for balls that he should be claiming)? Decent shot stopper and not a bad left back, but Jesus Christ I'm out of my seat every time a ball gets crossed in to the box.

A bit of rotation is good for all players, including goalkeepers. Daniels is also a very good goalkeeper, he was fantastic in the League Cup.

Raya is hardly spraying pin point 50 yards passes 20 times a game so I don’t buy that he’s as key to our style of play as some make out. 99/100 he plays a pass Daniels can make.

David Raya

Best keeper in the Championship by a country mile, albeit he has a mistake or two in him. Daniels is a good understudy but not a patch on Raya. Need to Raya in the team, not phased as already been mentioned by his mistakes, keeps his composer where other keepers would panic and make more errors.

its his starting position that makes a difference. Our CBS very rarely get caught by a ball over the top

I think he is the best keeper at Brentford but need some time out to settle himself and the defence.

But how on earth can you say he is the best keeper in the division by a country mile given his recent form.

Saying stuff like that doesn't help him as it just isn't true and ignores the mistakes he has been making for some months now.

Daniels starting position is fine when I’ve seen him. Raya is clearly better, I just believe a little rotation is good for all parties. As it has been for the centre back pairing.

David Raya

I thought he was very poor for the first 27 seconds today. After that, apart from the odd understandably wayward long hoick, he was the better keeper by an urban kilometre. The bloke at the other end dithered and fumbled and failed to communicate, whilst David bossed it completely in his own area.

I liked Bentley, and I liked Button, but I think that if either had made a blunder like David occasionally has done this season we would be expecting them to go to pieces. Not David.
