It's too many and he's gotta go. Daniels is safe hands and that's what you need. How many has he done this season? Daniels catches crosses, stops shots and doesn't fek up. That'll do
Preston at home back in October???

David Raya

I liked him until he started trying to flog me coffee on Twitter in some sort of dodgy pyramid scheme.

As for Raya, the recent errors are quite alarming. I’d keep him in the team but might have felt differently had we lost today (which I realise isn’t really rationale) but the error today at least hasn’t cost us points.
Haha, didnt know about the coffee, not a twitter or fb user.. Totally agree with your point about Raya

David Raya

Raya for me.

Although the argument that he saves more than he lets in is presumably true for most pro keepers?!

Does his shot stopping make up for his dodgy keeping? Probably not on its own but allied with his ability to play out, start attacks and be quick off his line I would say he is in credit.

David Raya

My un-statistical recollection is that these 'errors' seem to occur in the first 5 minutes of games. Perhaps a change of warm-up and match preparation is needed, plus a few chats with Michael Caulfield?

Not necessarily directed at DR, but we do seem to start games extremely sluggishly......

David Raya

So what was this dreadful mistake yesterday? David slightly under-hit a pass and it fell to their forward. But had it gone where he meant it, it would have taken two Stoke players out of the game and given Mads a free field to start an early attack.

Bad - yes. But hardly disasterous as it turned out.

Yes, I don’t think many are criticising the way we play and MBS passed back with the expectation of receiving it back, it’s just the sloppiness of the execution. The worse error was coming out to the player who’d intercepted it rather than protecting the goal.

David Raya

As was mentioned on the commentary, I though MBS was going to chest it back to DR so he could have picked it up.....

Exactly, made it easy for them.

David Raya

Daniels starting position is fine when I’ve seen him. Raya is clearly better, I just believe a little rotation is good for all parties. As it has been for the centre back pairing.
Not sure it works so well for keepers. They arent running loads of km's per game. Remember reading how unhelpful Richard Lee found rotation.

David Raya

You don’t rotate keepers, it’s the one position that doesn’t work. Keepers shouldn’t need a rest and it’s about confidence, which I think Raya has in abundance. Leave him where he is, he’s a far better keeper than Daniels and that’s no disrespect to Daniels but it’s true. We are lucky to have Daniels around the team and as a back up keeper but a couple of mistakes in recent weeks doesn’t make Raya a bad keeper. Unfortunately those mistakes have cost us conceding goals he will learn and work on this.

We rotated them for our Cup games.....
As do a lot of other sides.....

Maybe not to risk injury? Less important games. Any examples of rotation in league games from teams? I can’t think of many. Most have a clear number 1

Why do you say he's better than Daniels? Can't be performance. OK he sweeps well but he also feks up. Daniels is a terrific shot stopper , catches crosses and is safe. Put it this way, if a defender had committed the number of gaffs that Raya has, they would heve been left out a long time ago.Fortunately for him the team has been good enough to retrieve the situations.
That's just my view but l suspect Thomas wont change things as he doesnt like change but l feel nervous every time there's pressure in our box and when he's deciding what to do with the ball..

I just think the way we play he is better suited, better shot stopper and other than recently better distribution. The fact he starts every week probably backs up my opinion and also that Arsenal were interested. Do you think Daniels is better than Raya?

Yes. Simple answer. I've got a thing about keepers who fek up too often. Bentley was a case in point but we've had others.Arsenal were interested? That was the rumour but he didn't go anywhere. Don't know why you say he's a better shot stopper. Daniels has made some terrific saves too. Fulham sticks in my mind a bit too often.

That’s fair enough, I respect your opinion. Yes Arsenal was a rumour but I do think there was something in it, I’m not in the know however. Be interesting to see who starts on Wednesday. Who ever it is, I trust the management and I hope they do well ??

And you can counter that hes saved us many times when defenders have ****ed up or not followed a man or not won a header etc etc.

David Raya

Is it or has it ever been likely anyone would offer £2-3m for Daniels, let alone the sorts of money we’d have wanted off Arsenal for Raya? If he was nearly as good as some are saying clubs would be knocking our doors down and Daniels himself would be angling for a move to be first choice at a top Championship/PL club.

That's true and if he hadn't made so many mistakes he would be worth his weight in gold. But he has made a lot of mistakes. BTW Daniels has made some great saves too. I just hope he plays the percentage game on our run in. No need to introduce risk .I don't think Thomas will leave him out.

Exactly, and thats why LD is happy to sit on our bench.

He's simply better than Daniels at the way we play football. He's miles better on the ball, despite the odd cock up, I'm pretty sure if we played the ball around at the back with Daniels in the same way he'd make plenty of mistakes, but we don't dare with him in goal. He's better at taking crosses, he's better at playing up the field as the last man. He can pick out quick passes and throws to start counter attacks. He's confident and the rest of the squad appear to have complete confidence in him. After the cock up they didn't stop passing back to him. In fact, given how Stoke were pressing, Reid, Pinnock, Sorenson and Janelt couldn't wait to release the ball to him rather than try and turn and face up the pitch with players at their backs.

David Raya

Daniels is a good shot stopper and hasn’t let us down but Raya is a huge influence and like an extra outfield player.
He gives the rest of the defence confidence and starts attacks with his excellent distribution that compares to the very best in the Premier.
If he was a bit bigger he’d be even more commanding and a regular in the Premier League already.

David Raya

The fact there's even a debate of this scale suggests that something isn't quite right. Give Daniels a go

It could have been very disastrous though...we can’t keep giving teams a goal start

We sold Bentley to Bristol City cos he was making a few too many mistakes. It was good for him and us. We signed Raya and he quickly showed he was good for us, though I recall the Blackburn fans saying he made a few mistakes for them! I think you need a thick skin to be a goalie, and we’re lucky to have Daniels in reserve, whether or not he’s worth a few bob!

If you mean that some sort of natural disaster didn't occur as a direct consequence then you are correct

However there is nothing more disastrous in a football game then gifting the opposition a goal in a competition where promotion means a massive difference to our club and its owner.

Raya has cocked up a couple of time recently with this type of ball. Hopefully he will recognise that those types of balls need to be eliminated from his game if he is to become a top, top keeper. In the PL that type of gucking about will be punished regularly.

Has the change in GK coach affected him like it did Bentley IMO?

Keepers are creatures of habit.

Still the best keeper we've had in the last 20+ years bar WS who wasnt ours.

David Raya

He just needs reminding that, with the ball at his feet, he's sometimes not as good as he thinks his is.

David Raya

Balcombe should be available next season and will be a contender if we are still in the Championship

Hahaha that would be a great way to build his confidence. “O by the way David , just before you go on”, “you’re not as good as you think”, “have a great game!”

David Raya

Serious question - what other goals has David Raya let in with a similar mistake?

Coventry..........??............
Not exactly the same, but 'similar'............

Other than that........

David Raya

Yes by miles and thats why Arsenal are interested. DR will play more games at a higher level then Daniels ever will.

Daniels is clearly never going to play in the Premier League. Lets see how many games Raya plays in the Premier League.

David Raya

Raya clearly our number one, and at a club with as many goalkeepers as we've got that's an achievement in itself

David Raya

With our change in personnel at the back with Reid in and Mads to LB instead of Rico, the chances of playing out through the defence was likely to make a mistake. Unfortunately that happened, I am not even sure Mads was looking at the ball played to him, he appeared to be looking and running upfield. Hopefully they will all be more use to it from now on.

In the Wycombe v Norwich game Pukki almost blocked a kick downfield by Stockdale, so that isn't without it’s risks also

Raya is definitely our best goalkeeper, but it was his mistake, alone.

Mads did nothing wrong. In fact, it was a lovely touch by him, to Raya.

David Raya

In fairness to him, he's probably tired at the moment. He's having to juggle his football career along with promoting his new movie.
