Love to see him sign a new contract, let’s see what happens. We already know he turned the first contract offer down. You maybe right though.I don't think Lazio's starting keeper would have to come to Brentford unless he and the Club were pretty sure Raya was off (maybe in Jan?) ...
Yep and classic tactic of his replacement already secured. To be honest, Raya has been a great servant and he deserves to play for one of the top clubs in the world and be Spain's Number 1.After a great first half to season and world cup, don't be surprised to see the club cash in. Easily £40+ for me. GKs are worth their weight in gold now.
Just which of those top clubs can sign him right now?Yep and classic tactic of his replacement already secured. To be honest, Raya has been a great servant and he deserves to play for one of the top clubs in the world and be Spain's Number 1.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Spurs go for him. Hugo Lloris now 35. All guess work.Just which of those top clubs can sign him right now?
And West HamI could see either Tottenham or Manchester United looking for an upgrade in goal.
I’m not 100% sure that Raya is an upgrade on either Lloris or De Gea if honest. He was excellent last season with great distribution but you’re comparing him to two hugely successful International keepers. If he achieves anywhere near either of them I’d be surprised.I could see either Tottenham or Manchester United looking for an upgrade in goal.
I think that he is over De Gea, and even if it's close for Lloris... he's 35 years old, you never know how much longer that they have. Even if it would be a lateral move in goal, it would be a good business move for them to do it for their future. I would still prefer Brentford keep him... but looking at how efficient that they have been, if they end up selling 3-4 players next offseason for 120 mil or so, there is a LOT that they can do with that money.I’m not 100% sure that Raya is an upgrade on either Lloris or De Gea if honest. My point is I don’t think he’s done enough yet to prove that he is a suitable, long term replacement for two keepers with incredible careers littered with major International honours. Spurs and Man Utd will I believe set their sights higher unless he is cover only and £40M for cover is unlikely?I think that he is over De Gea, and even if it's close for Lloris... he's 35 years old, you never know how much longer that they have. That's fair, but I'm not sure they have any younger keepers or heir apparent to the position. Age ends up tearing us all down - it makes sense to me to bet more on a 26 year old who has had a breakout year than a 35 or 36 year old having a bounce back year(De Gea) or even maintaining their current form(Lloris). But that's just my opinion, of courseMy point is I don’t think he’s done enough yet to prove that he is a suitable, long term replacement for two keepers with incredible careers littered with major International honours.
Raya has had 2/3 of a season in the top tier and nothing before with a couple of caps?
It's getting carried away to say Raya is better than DeGea. He's virtually singlehandedly salvaged United's season for most of the last half dozen yearsI’m not 100% sure that Raya is an upgrade on either Lloris or De Gea if honest. He certainly kept them in the game v us at the BCS last year. We could/should have been 3 up at HT if it wasn't for him. It's getting carried away to say Raya is better than DeGea. He's virtually singlehandedly salvaged United's season for most of the last half dozen years
Other than probably his easiest game for a while! There was one time in the first half where the ball came in to the far edge of the box from his starting position, and his:
- decision making to come for it - get it fractionally wrong and it’s a disaster
- footwork to get across so fast
- leap to reach the ball ahead of several taller players
- handling to calmly catch and bring it down
was all outrageous. Cut out a potentially very good opportunity for United.
a small wager Man U sniffing... their manager likes keeper-sweepers and that de Gea isn't
Talked about this on 5live last night - no mention of Raya - but said how the position of GK was key to how ETH likes to play and shows how MU are not joined up in their thinking - not really critiscm of De Gea as such - just a fact that it is not his style of play.a small wager Man U sniffing... their manager likes keeper-sweepers and that de Gea isn't
Yes I am hoping that the window passes without too many glances to either him or Toney... Man U could probably do with both!
I’ve been thinking that myself about Raya. Especially as Ten Hag has said he wants to play out from the back. At that, Raya is possibly one of the best in the country.Yes I am hoping that the window passes without too many glances to either him or Toney... Man U could probably do with both!

I have the opposite opinion. We already have a decent understudy / replacement for Raya, not so for Ivan.I’d be gutted to see Raya or Toney line up for that shower of s**t. There’s better….US.
The 250k a week would swing it though and
we’d have a clued up recruitment team with 80+ million to invest. Wouldn’t be the end of the world but they’re both hard to replace …especially Raya.
Just show him the highlights (lowlights?) of Liverpool away and Leeds at home from last season. Raya is just De Gea lite, not worth tuppence. No sir.a small wager Man U sniffing... their manager likes keeper-sweepers and that de Gea isn't
Wasn’t Alvaro in goal away at Liverpool?Just show him the highlights (lowlights?) of Liverpool away and Leeds at home from last season. Raya is just De Gea lite, not worth tuppence. No sir.
Don't tell him, Pike!Wasn’t Alvaro in goal away at Liverpool?
We should have hung on to Alvaro and got £20m off them for him.Don't tell him, Pike!

Alvaro wasn't perfect but he was a fine shot stopper. His numbers are severely impacted as well by the team's lack of depth and injuries at the time in which he was starting. I do think Strakosha is still an upgrade, probably a significant one. But I don't think it's worth talking that Fernandez was awful or anything. Our PPG was 0.7 without Raya and 1.4 with him. Alvaro may not have been that great...
He would come out for balls that he didn't need to, and flapped for crosses. Lossl meanwhile could do all of those parts well, but didn't have the shot stopping Alvaro had...at all.
I'm very happy with Strakosha as we have a backup who can play out from the back. Hopefully us having the ability to play out from the back all year long will suit us well and prevent us having a drop-off again.
I would say he probably knows that when his contract is up he will be in demand and have choices of some of the best and biggest clubs in Europe and command a salary that we can only dream of offering.Do you think the reason he's rejected a new contract is the fact he looks across to his compatriot De Gea, who is arguably a less good keeper these days, earning 10 times more than he is?
We won’t let him see out his contract. New deal or big money sale now we have a top quality keeper to replace him. He’s good enough that he’d still get a big money move elsewhere even if on a new deal with us on more money so the calculation for him is whether to take an extra eg £20k a week now (£1m a year) or hold out for a few million more as a signing bonus in a year or two when he might have had injuries or loss of form and the current crop of likely buying clubs already having a new keeper and not be in the market for him.I would say he probably knows that when his contract is up he will be in demand and have choices of some of the best and biggest clubs in Europe and command a salary that we can only dream of offering.

In the coming year I can see Man U, Spurs, Leicester as teams somewhat above us in level/potential/wealth looking for a new first choice keeper. I can see Man U waving £40-£50m at us in January. Most of the rest already have a top keeper in their prime or are a sideways/backwards move even if offering lots of money.
Likely to be a lot more than that IMOWe won’t let him see out his contract. New deal or big money sale now we have a top quality keeper to replace him. Quite possibly. We don’t know how much he’s on now though and some reports have him already as our highest earner.Likely to be a lot more than that IMO
Whatever he’s on it will be a fraction of what someone like De Gea or Mendy or Allyson or Edilson will be earning and he’s right up there with themQuite possibly. We don’t know how much he’s on now though and some reports have him already as our highest earner.
