David Raya

The last two years Bentley cost the team upwards of 25 points. Too many errors and too many goals were down to him.

He is continuing at Bristol. I wouldn’t criticise him when he played for us but he cannot hold a shot. Always punches giving the opponent another go. His diving rivals Tom Daley for style when it would be easier to stay on his feet.
I like Raya. Good attitude when he messed up for “that” goal. Wins most manomanos. He does get crowded at corners but mainly by our players. He has won the team many more points than he has lost.

David Raya

How many points has Raya won us too, he's made a few crucial one on one saves this season.

David Raya

Bloody hell a few dodgy performances from the team and we look for scapegoats! Raya is now not good enough and on another thread Said is not a team player and totally selfish.

When my children were little toddlers if they didn’t get their own way then they would have a strop, seems like some on here fall into the same category.

He may not be the tallest keeper but this season has done wonderfully well stopping shops and distributing the ball well. He is smaller than Bentley yet have a little peek at the Bristol board and see what their fans think about him, I would much prefer Raya playing for us than Dan and genuinely believe he has saved us numerous points.

He has. I don't get why people are on Raya's back.

It's all Inaki's fault anyways :sneakoff:

Saying he's not very big and isn't going to dominate in the air is hardly "having a strop". What on earth are you talking about?

David Raya

For the second goal, one of the Luton players just jumped into him, the ball was nowhere near either of them. How that wasn't given as a free-kick I will never know.

I think from set-pieces the opposition are "lumping it in" as they perceive a shorter keeper as more vulnerable to the high ball. And perhaps they are correct. This is where Pontus would help. Difficult to bombard Pontus AND Pinnock successfully.

This was a point I made after the game – that Jansson and Jeanvier tend to go into a 'get it out' auto-mode for dead balls, where they will head the ball whatever, even through other Bees players, without over-thinking about where it should go or starting a counter-attack. It's other players' responsibility to work the second phase, they just want it out of the box. We didn't see that against Luton. The defence also was also good at protecting Raya by one player tasked to shield him; that also seemed to have gone AWOL.

David Raya

For sure,Pontus in the main as I can remember would attack the ball as delivered into the area.

David Raya

Given his all round natural ability, If he were another 4 to 6 nches taller then he would be an outstanding keeper.

David Raya

................took a battering today..............

David Raya

..............excellent handling...............

Yep indeed. Excellent positioning as well. Made all the saves he had to muster against Wednesday look ridiculously easy by great positioning, anticipation and handling. A very accomplished performance.

David Raya

Was faultless today. Brilliant.

Also very good sportsmanship, when Fletcher clattered him to the ground in a challenge, when he got up prior to taking the free kick , he seeked out Fletcher and touched hands. Well done David

David Raya

He was the definition of "safe hands" yesterday.

David Raya

Class is permanent as demonstrated yesterday.

As a former member of the union,I would rate that as a perfect demonstration of positioning, handling and distribution.
Only one tricky save, but solid as a rock.

David Raya

His distribution was also great. Turned defense into attack very quickly and was good with his feet.

David Raya

Solid as a rock yesterday. Love that he only punches when absolutely necessary.

David Raya

Very solid and seemed more calm and assured in distribution without supporters in the ground.

GOAL: Blackburn 1-1 Bristol City
Corry Evans (37 mins)
Blackburn hit straight back, and Bristol City goalkeeper Daniel Bentley hasn't covered himself in glory either.
Corry Evans*curls a right-footed ball into the Robins box from the left flank.
The ball evades both attackers and defenders and creeps in at the far post, with Bentley caught off guard.

lol

Can we buy him noise cancelling headphones

Caught everything and pulled off an excellent save to deny Moanervic.

David Raya

Before the break Raya made a lot of mistakes that led to goals, but also so did a lot of the team....but he’s come out today and smashed it. Taken everything Fulham put towards him with ease, safe hands all game, glided through packs of attackers to catch the call, distribution was fairly good. Good to see him on form

David Raya

Mine too.

Even considering Marcondes outstanding contribution, it was Raya that had kept us in the game up to that point.

Would you call it "keeping us in the game" JR? Honest question? I would say his save was fairly routine and did what he is meant to do (look at the Man Utd keepers fluff).

He was a main cog in our machine and for me his claiming of the ball and distribution was better and more important then the save. But i didnt think he was under the cosh.

Im not trying to discredit him here. Hes top draw.

David Raya

A lot has been said about the three players at the base of our team in the last few days, but not too much about DR. He has been absolutely critical to our success since resumption. Keeper, defender, play-maker!

Keeper: shot-stopper supreme (e.g. vital blocks from Mitrovic); commanding and decisive in the air.

Defender: always switched on to danger... how often has he read danger and snuffed out balls over the top with really well-timed intervention? Key to this is his concentration and positivity.

Play-maker: as good a pass-maker as we have in the side. Excellent vision, and executes swiftly, which is crucial in exploiting opportunity.

If he maintains form we stand an excellent chance of promotion.

David Raya

To think he cost us the same as we sold Bentley for pretty much. No comparison Raya superior.

This was my reaction straight after the game. I would still say yes. I agree with all you added and for sure raya's work goes beyond those saves. Yes, he was not under the cosh. The saves were extremely important to keeping us in the game IMHO

More to the point...

To think sections of our supporters were moaning about him in preseason lol

“He’s too small”, “he’s far too overconfident on the ball”, etc etc etc

For me he is up there with one of our best signings based on his performances this season.

By far the best goalkeeper Brentford have ever owned in my opinion...

David Raya

Didn't have a decent shot to save tonight.

I though the silly stat at the end was amusing:
Shots saved: 1 100%
So, they had 1 shot on target and he saved it... brilliant!

He's got Pontus to thank that it wasn't 2.

David Raya

Just listened to David's interview on the OS, Is he the most articulate of the playing squad? Pontus might come close and in recent times Vibe was right up there.

David Raya

who was our last keeper to keep 5 clean sheets in a row? and are we approaching any records? surely must be close especially at this level
