Shame Dave slipped late in the game..when we had a fast break up field would have been interesting end to the game had it come off..great game thou..proud of our boys..

Agree he will be very difficult to replace. His absence was hugely missed last season when he was. It is possible we do replace well though.


A competent keeper with the right attributes we can make fit well within our team

I remember Thomas Frank saying that David was one of the best keepers in the championship after the Coventry game, and now he’s saying he’s one of the best in the prem. It’s been great to see him develop, and mistakes are fewer and fewer.

That said, I did feel he made two yesterday in the middle of a fantastic performance. Gave the ball away cheaply in the middle of the park late on and positionally for their first goal. On balance though it was pretty much flawless performance claiming crosses and handling from long range shots.

I think he might have saved the shot which resulted in penalty!

The positioning for the first goal is how we play though. Sweeper keeper, encouraged to play high. First time I've seen him done like that.

I think he slipped because a Brighton player deliberately bumped him.

Being short is probably most exposed facing penalties when he can’t compensate with superior positioning and anticipation.

Maybe enjoy the time we have left with him & trust the process & people behind the scenes to help mitigate the loss.

Having a world class keeper like Raya at Brentford is a privilege. He will be difficult to replace but maybe we can settle for a reliable competent keeper rather than a dodgy Alvaro or Losl.

Goalkeeper one of the most important positions to invest heavily in. We can get a good fee for Raya this Summer, and it would be stupid not to take seeing as he has hit the form, and likely market value, of his career.

Using that money, and maybe a bit more from our fantastic profit margin, invest into a proper, well-proven goalkeeper.

Shouldn't "need" to be settling for a Lossl or Alvaro anymore.

Not helped by their players constantly running around in front of him and stopping him from doing so.

Thought that wasn't allowed, but the ref didn't do anything to stop it.

Frankly $40 mil is the kind of money that could be part of something transformative for the team. He's incredible and the ideal keeper for the team but if a $40 mil paycheck comes due then I don't see any way we would deny it. That's money that could be spent on 2-3 young players that could play a massive role in the future... 2 $20 mil talents, one at CB and one at GK, I imagine would be on the wish list.

I thought DR was trying not to shine in comparison with Nick Dope at the other end. Maybe he doesn’t fancy going to Newcastle as his replacement? With hindsight, he probably overdid it a bit with the own goal…

Yes but he must also beware the Alan Judge trap. One bad injury could can the whole thing. I am sure he will want to tss as ke it whilst it’s there.

£40m not to be sniffed at. We must ensure we invest wisely in his replacement if Strakosha is not our man. I'm still open to him having a run in the team but only if our season starts to fizzle out a bit.

It is our opening gambit and I cannot believe we expect to get too close to that figure.

We have some leverage but not too much. Raya wants to go and we won’t want to risk losing him on a free transfer.

Let’s hope we can get an auction going to drive the price up.

Maybe we will manage to get somewhere north of 25m euros or pounds for him. He’s worth more than that in normal circumstances.

As for his replacement next season I just wonder if we might have plans other than Strakosha?

I imagine Fabrizio Romano got the 40M€ figure from a club that's made an inquiry... so it may be Phil Giles' opening gambit.

Borderline but yeah i agree that is pretty much the cut off as I see it too. Unless there is a bidding war hopefully!

I think the memory of our Rayaless months may sway the running down the contract camp !

You can get goalies for a decent price i think pope went for £10m Martinez for £16m and ramsdale for about £23m but it's the one position I'm concerned about replacing after witnessing the couple of clowns we recruited last season when Raya was injured

I am sure that several "top "teams are monitoring him but actually signing him is a different matter. The likes of Spurs are linked with a lot of good keepers including Pickford if Everton go down. No doubt Raya could double his money and more but that doesn't mean he would be first choice in a trophy seeking "top" team

TF said it in a presser, he's not going to say, "Sure, take him for £20mill", but also think he was heavily inflating it for those listening, just in case.

The press & media now seem to be running that as our asking price, so maybe it's worked, but I don't believe any club looks at the circumstances and offers that.

Is there a better goalkeeper in the Premier League? Perhaps I'm biased, but I genuinely don't think so. The question is how many of the massive super-clubs are currently looking to replace/improve in this department? Tottenham probably, Manchester United perhaps, Chelsea maybe. Probably not Liverpool or Manchester City, but you never know. Overseas - I have to confess I have no idea about how good the keepers are at PSG, Madrid, Barcelona, Munich, Milan or Juve, but those would be the options, I suppose. It won't be a long list of possible suitors, but they mostly have deep pockets and if there's competition, who knows? And if the price is too low, we can always keep him for another year, although I doubt this will happen.

It will be sad to see him go. By a distance the best keeper in my time watching the Bees. (Though I missed the Szczesny loan.)
