If Daniels was the answer he would've taken over when Bentley left. He didn't. We got Raya. And if Raya leaves we'll have a new 1st choice keeper.

David Raya

Arsenal’s second keeper did well today, if Raya went there he could find himself third choice. Can’t see him doing that.

David Raya

Lots of talk that Martinez wants to leave for first team game time, and if that happens there could be a slot for an understudy for Leno.

Personally I dont see this one happening, but with the connections, its possible.

You say could! However, he could find himself second choice, and from that moment he is an injury, or a red card away from being first choice. A coach that previously has been a major influence in his development. To me, it appears that it could be a very difficult choice for him. If the job is on offer I could see him taking it, he may never get the chance again,

Plus the sizeable pay increase he’d get but I hope he stays!

Hopefully David doesn't leave under any circumstances this year because Brentford actually say no.

I remember the year we lost the Birmingham three and from memory we had good bids for other players which we turned down on basis we still had our ambitions and requirements for that forthcoming season.

Hopefully with the monies likely to arrive from Oli and Said, we will not be willing to sell anyone else, particularly those that have only been here one year. If necessary a sensible conversation with David and his agent, an improved contract, and time for us to plan to lose him if necessary in a year's time, depending on how the season turns out.

I appreciate things don't always turn out so easily but we are now definitely a contender for promotion and suspect we will have our own plans which will sometimes mean saying a player, currently, is not for sale.

Spot on I think holding onto Raya is a must, it’s an area where we have struggled to recruit, another Bentley scenario and would not secure top 6.

David Raya

The difficulty here would be in denying Raya a move to a club like Arsenal if that is indeed the case. This opportunity will likely not still be available next summer, it my well be now or never. Part of the attraction of coming to us is that we help players develop and do not stand in the way of them bettering themselves. I’m not sure we’ve ever had a case like this before and of course ideally we’d like him to stay.
Not an easy one...

Its a difficult one for keepers, of course there is the potential for getting game time for the first team at a club like Arsenal and no doubt double/ triple his wages but he could also spend years just being part of the squad and never play like the Leeds keeper who i gather spent 5 years at Real Madrid and never played a first team game. Would he really be happy with that type of scenario?

Now let's see, he could be a reserve at Arsenal or a starter at Brentford in the Premier League in the near future. Which is the better option?

David Raya

I am not certain the numbers add up.

Martinez is in demand and a fine, commanding keeper. However he had only played relatively few first team games for the Arse.

The bids are, we are led to believe, in the £10m region.

Why would Arsenal sell him for that and pay us almost the same, which we would demand.

Arsenal are trying to raise serious money not churn players.

They would probably only make £2 or 3 m. profit.

The only way our keeper will go to Arsenal imo is if they sell Leno for £20m. Then they are sitting on a real boost to their transfer kitty.

No but on the flip side we dont just accept offers and let players go because its a Prem side offering.

We have told players we wont be selling them "this season".

Seen it written a few times now that "we dont stand in the way of players leaving" etc etc. "its in their contracts" etc "players can leave when a bigger club comes calling"....... The deal has to benefit BFC. We sell at the right time and im sure this is communicated to the players unless a silly offer comes in. I'm sure we told a couple last year that Maupay would be the only one leaving from our front three.

Can we all stop assuming that we are solely a stepping stone for all our players.

David Raya

He's essential to the way we play, I really hope he stays. Daniels is a good shot stopper, Raya is a better all round Footballer.

David Raya

Daniels is a perfectly acceptable back-up. He does make many mistakes but, unlike Raya, he also does make a lot of saves where you’d give him no chance.

I’ve never seen a keeper who’s as good at one on ones as Raya and I dare say he would’ve kept out at least one of those goals on Saturday.

I can’t see us letting him go, TBH.

Yep, that is exactly what my son said in the car to work this morning! :)

David Raya

Raya the trickiest to replace out of anyone IMHO. Finding a keeper with the counter attacking vision Raya has is rare.

:imwith: We are a football club not the MakeAWish foundation. I can't believe anyone would be dumb enough to think that we would promise ANY player that they are guaranteed a move as soon as an EPL team comes in for them.

David Raya

Arsenal are set to offer Argentine keeper Emiliano Martinez, 27, a new deal and could do the same for England full-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles, 23, if he stays at the club. (Mirror)

David Raya

If Martinez wanted to play every week and Raya wanted to sit on Arsenal's bench, couldn't they just swap?

Light hearted, may be, nevertheless, a good point. Why not? Although I doubt that Martinez has in mind the Championship, and a pay cut. Premiership 21/22 though.

David Raya

Maybe playing at a high profile club like Arsenal could make him a possible for the Spanish national side. Not sure but their keepers have been either a bit dodgy of late (De Gea) or past it (not really up on Spanish keepers ) . Just a thought.

David Raya

No Raya again in today's squad vs Oxford...

David Raya

Oh FFS. Kind of resigned to Ollie and Said going but this would be really bad news

David Raya

might be a knock that allows him to participate in light training but not match fit i suppose.

I mean.. they aren't saying benrahma and watkins are out with knocks are they.... so why would they bother telling fibbers about Raya?

David Raya

He's off then isn't he?? Trained yesterday!!!

He's not due to play until 12th. Daniels will be playing at the weekend.

David Raya

Yeah I don't see why he'd be at the ground watching the game if a move was imminent. I'm guessing that Watkins isn't there for support...

David Raya

Looks like he fell and ripped his jeans

That explains it then. Fell over, ripped the knees out of his jeans, cut his knee but due to COVID restrictions mummy can't miss it better so medics have put a plaster on it and he can't play until it is better

David Raya

I am really quite relaxed about this now.

David Raya

12th....of September?
