David Raya

I dunno. ?

Hmm. would be very disappointing, given we rescued him from Blackburn! He's too young to end up on the bench. He's by no means perfect but another year with us and he'll be close and could prob get a 1st choice place in a PL side (preferably us)

David Raya

Arsenal are becoming a real nuisance.

David Raya

If Daniels plays on Saturday to my mind it will confirm Raya is off. Daniels is a very competent goalkeeper but Rayas ability in playing out from the back will not be immediately replaceable. Arsenal are mad if they sell Martinez , much rather have hin than Leno.

David Raya

This is very disappointing especially if he's playing up, as I thought the days of Jug Ears types were over, however that will never be the case. If he wants to go, lets get full value and Arsenal / Raya know we're no pushovers. I'd question his ambition however money talks. I like him and he certainly challenges David Mckellar as my all time favorite keeper.

David Raya

I don't think players pushing for a move is in the past at all. I think they're possibly more subtle about it now, given all the attention on every detail, but it still goes on.

I do fully understand Raya's position, to be at Arsenal where he would get around 15 games a season given Europa League etc, but it's just really unfortunate. He would be incredibly hard to replace. There may not be many options available domestically, while we probably can't afford the bedding in period that many foreign signings need. Not a good situation for us.

David Raya

...i guess organisations have strategies for employees who are headhunted....be interesting to see how this scenario plays out....just hope it doesn't detract or distract from the job at hand....we need only players focused on getting the win on that pitch tomorrow....Raya hopefully will be one of them.

I agree.

We cant have a mantra of being a stepped stone and wont stop in your way for the right price, if a massive club like Arsenal are sniffing and showing genuine interest and we are point blank refusing.

The player will win, let him go. Move on.

Daniels can cover until we find someone else. He isnt terrible.

We've only got some comments attributed to his agent (not even quotes) to suggest that he's going to kick up a fuss. For all we know he may be happy to stay but his agent is just trying to muddy things up a bit.

David Raya

I say get rid. Sorry but if Raya doesn’t want to be here so be it. Let him be the owner of his own career and if he think he will improve by playing 5/6 games a year for the next few years it’s his call. His head has been turned and his attitude quite frankly sucks. let’s be real there was no knock.

I personally don’t believe he is as good as some make him out to be. Yes he obviously has been an improvement on Bentley but if we can get £10m plus for him that’s great business especially after a year.

As great as he was against Swansea and I don’t blame him for the Fulham result, he has a error in him and his mistake against Stoke was for me more costly.

I personally also like my keepers to be taller.

David Raya

If he wants away,(if you can believe click bait sites,) then let him go for a hefty sum, no one is bigger than the club, Luke is a capable keeper who won't let us down if Raya goes, unlike other years we now have a very strong defensive line up than can afford some line of safety to Luke.

But here is a classic example of why the transfer window should be slammed shut at least 2 weeks before the start of every season to prevent the turmoil of teams losing players on the eve of kick off and having to scramble for suitable replacements.

David Raya

let's not forget Said wanted away last season and when he didn't materialise he knuckled down and got on with it.

Raya is almost possible to replace at this stage. Daniels is an adequate stopper but Raya is on a different level.

David Raya

Agent seems to be very busy, obviously wants his cut... @Banana is there any truth in Raya wanting a transfer request?
I read, probably on Twitter, so you can take that with a pibch of salt, that his Agent told him to put in a transfer request, to help push through the move to Arsenal.

Part of the reason we have such a strong defence is the confidence the back four have in Raya, they know he'll be there to mop up or pick out the crosses. I'm not so sure we'd have the same with Daniels.

Agree with you that the transfer window should be shut before the season starts, but this year is exceptional circumstances so they couldn't do that really.

Part of the reason we have goals in the side is that Raya triggers a lot of quick breakouts. This is especially important against those teams that defend deep and rely on set-pieces.

David Raya

Christ there are some odd comments on here - I have not seen a single shred of evidence of Raya refusing to play or kicking up a fuss so before he is hung, drawn and quartered please assume he is still going to be here this season until confirmed otherwise...

bang on, there was a cracking example away (at Hull??) where he pinged a ball straight out to henry who crossed it first time for Ollie to score..

Here's some evidence:

- he hasn't played a single match this preseason
- he didn't play in the cup game, nor was he on the bench
- reputable newspapers are linking him with Arsenal
- seemingly reputable newspapers are mentioning his agent and a transfer request

Not sure about the last one. His agent seems to have given an interview but agents are not always exactly aligned with their players. We’ll see.

David Raya

He is a good keeper with his key attribute his ability to turn defence into attack with his fast accurate distribution. This has been key for little Brentford where teams came at us but not so much if they sit back as we saw in the last couple of games of the regular season just finished.Teams will pay us more respect going forward so hitting them on the break with pace will often not be possible . I hope he stays but not if he wants away as for me team harmony is vital and often what makes the difference creating the unpredictability of the game. We are a trading club and have to accept that while we have astute traders handling the clubs assets we cannot always get our ideal situation and sometimes just obtain the best in the circumstances. In this case the best price with add-ons is better than a want away player . We have seen players go in the past when we didn’t want them to go but shortly afterwards said we are now stronger with replacements and adjustments. A good recent example way losing Maupay and moving Watkins into the centre . Whilst many doubted this at first and complained we were lacking a striker I doubt anyone would have voiced this during our winning run after the restart.

1 and 2. He was injured as reported by the club itself at the time
3. Yes it has already been mentioned that we rejected a £10m bid and said he is not for sale.
4. If you believe everything in the papers then more fool you frankly especially anything linked to an agent who have their own interests at heart much of the time

So no evidence whatsoever about Raya refusing to play or kicking up a fuss...

You can choose to disbelieve the evidence but it is evidence nonetheless. The subject of this thread wasn't fabricated out of thin air.

David Raya

Reminds me of Dean Smith and Hogan's mystery illness of a pulled buttock. i.e a pain in the arse

David Raya

bang on, there was a cracking example away (at Hull??) where he pinged a ball straight out to henry who crossed it first time for Ollie to score..

And against Swansea where his quick, pin point throw out to Jensen after catching a corner led to Watkins’ goal. That speed of thought to go straight from the complexity of defending a set piece, focusing on the multiple opponents threatening his goal to spotting a gap upfield and getting the ball there is impressive. The natural and more cautious approach of a keeper with less confidence in his distribution would have been to hold the ball and let the team reset its attacking shape, taking out the opponent’s attacking momentum.

Though the Hull game did also show the risk of a keeper comfortable on the ball when Raya completely misread the hopeful punt forward and conceded.

David Raya

What evidence is there? We know there was a bid, we know his agent is 'active', what else is there?

Until I hear it from Raya himself, I'll assume he still wants to be here, I don't understand why some people are putting him on such a high pedestal, yes his distribution is excellent and incisive but I'll be honest everytime he starts to dribble the ball or trap it, (Hull and Millwall away spring to mind) I reach for the smelling salts. I to don't blame him for the play off final defeat but to be beaten from that range just illustrates he's not as good as some people believe.

David Raya

What evidence is there? We know there was a bid, we know his agent is 'active', what else is there?
I listed the evidence a few posts back. In addition to what you mentioned, he also hasn't played any games this preseason.

This starts to build a picture of a classic Brentford story that seems to happen every year. Last year it was Benrahma and fortunately that played out in our favour in the end.

David Raya

Yes the intention is to not sell, but player agitation can change decisions as we've found before (and this may or may not have happened and may or may not happen). If Arsenal sell Martinez then I fully expect them to come back in for Raya. I personally wouldn't begrudge him a move to Arsenal to work with his former GK coach, just hope we have a replacement lined up or that Daniels/Balcombe grasp the opportunity and we forget about him altogether

None of that is evidence at all. It is a series of incidents that have occurred and you have created your own narrative around it. You are now not only accusing him of something he hasn't done but you have convinced yourself he has done it. This nonsense approach to reasoning and associated OTT response is how conspiracy theories work and why this world is in the mess it currently is.

You've been told he is injured, the club has said he is injured what more do you need. Honestly I give up - believe what you want because clearly you have made your made up on the basis of nothing at that has any basis in reality. Arsenal have had a bid rejected - FACT so at this point I have nothing to suggest the player himself has agitated a move just a load of social media rubbish that I wouldn't put any trust in whatsoever.

David Raya

There's no need to get angry. I haven't accused Raya of anything.

A poster claimed there was no shred of evidence. There very obviously is. The evidence doesn't prove anything conclusively but it's definitely a "shred".

David Raya

Fulscum have a new keeper...the old one was very good...worth a punt?

....conspiracy theories are part n parcel of the GPG......not sure how much impact they have in the 'real' world.....fairly harmless actually.... all part of the fun.....well for me at least:sneaky::)

1 - he played the first friendly against Derby before getting a knee injury
2 - he never plays cup games or is on the bench for them
3 - they bid we turned down
4 - his agent is doing his job - trying to find a deal for his player but we've stated he's not for sale

None of what you've stated is evidence that he's on his way or that he's being disruptive, all it's evidence of is that Arsenal would like to sign him - which we already knew.

The club never said Ollie or Said have an injury did they? So for now I think we have to take their word for it, there was a video of the players coming out for warm up before the Oxford game with Raya in the background clearly limping as well.

He's still not for sale...

David Raya

A very good keeper ideally suited to our style of play.

as it stands we have turned aside an offer of circa £10m from Arsenal who would be delighted to get him, although not sure they would pay much more for a second choice

have seen comments saying get rid, head turned etc etc and that injury is only a smokescreen. As to the validity of any of those arguments who knows, at present he is our player and I find some of the outrage over the top.

from his point of view I can see why the attention from Arsenal is appealing, play in European competitions and a massive salary increase. Who wouldn’t want to double/treble their income.

we will see how this plays out but to the best of my knowledge Raya has done nothing to cause any anger from fans

I have drawn my own conclusions. As for Ollie and Said it was in Brentford’s interest not to play them and risk any potential injury. The club could not afford the loss of premium earnings from their sales.

David Raya

He's still not for sale...
Regardless, I don’t blame the club putting out his has a knock as they need to play this right and manage the situation that has been developing since Arsenal’s interest.

David Raya

Since when did we need hard evidence to throw a player under the bus?

There is none in Raya's case but there wasn't much with Jug Ears either.

It's not looking great though I think most would agree.
