David Raya

It's how football is sometimes, but still wild to me that a player that Blackburn fans were seemingly thankful for but happy to bid farewell to, is being linked to a top 6 club.

Guess its about player development and finding the player finding the right team to progress

David Raya

Rumour has it he is going to Manu, while De Gea will return to Spain.
Much better option than Spuds!!!!

Bigger club and a manager that actually wants a goalkeeper that can play. Makes much more sense for David.
I'm guessing it'd be a summer signing though, as they've just signed Butland on loan as 2nd choice. Doubt they would've done that for him to be third choice, with DDG on the bench on 350k/week just a week later. But this is the basketcase that is Man U recruitment, so anything is possible.

There's no way United have any cash for this window after what they spent in the summer. If they did they'd be spending it on a striker a lot better than Weghorst the Burnley reject

David Raya

Our price will probably be reduced from what it is now in 6 months time with 12 months left on his deal - don't see us placing a silly value on him and then having him walk for free next summer. I'd be shocked if we got more than £30m for him IHMO
10 or 20 million or so is nothing to the top clubs. Can’t see as he’d be interested in joining anyone outside the top 6. We should be asking top dollar and stick to it.

Exactly. So in the summer they get a top keeper, who counts as home grown, at a discounted rate (1yr left). David gets his big move, at a club/manager he'd excel at. And we are still able to squeeze out that extra £ due to MUAT that we wouldn't get from Tottenham. Happy(ish) days all round.

Can do then he walks for free - not a clever policy. We will have a valuation in each window based on contract length and I can almost guarantee we aren't getting more than £30m in the summer - seems Kepa was an outlier looking at the current highest transfers for keepers although £10m is crazy talk and we might as well let him leave for free if that happened.

10 million is 20 janelts, not to be sniffed at

You would accept an offer of £10m in the summer for Raya? Janelt was a miracle signing, the odds of getting another like him for £500k is nigh on impossible in todays transfer market.

I think if we get to summer, last of his contract, then around £15-20mill is likely what we can expect.

Do remember though, PG has been great when it comes to selling and getting a good deal for us!

If it's that or nothing, I'd rather get on with letting Strakosha get settled in and have a bit more cash to splash. I agree he's worth a lot more though. The janelt point was of course tongue in cheek, but there's a grain of truth that 10 mil in our hands could be more than enough to find another hidden gem

In that situation it is risk and reward - keep Raya and hope to stay up and pocket a load more money or sell for £10m and risk getting relegated (not that I am saying that will happen but you get the gist of what I mean hopefully).

David Raya

Where you hear this ?
Obviously from one of the many, many click bait sites and the like out there, At the moment he's linked with a host of clubs here and abroad, Just give them all a miss/ignore, There is only one true site and that's the BFC Web site, Wait until then. (y)

But we don’t need 20 Janet’s, we need 1 Raya or a replacement that is good enough to keep goal against the likes of City, Arsenal, Liverpool etc. !
They’re not easy to find, and you’ll struggle to get one on the cheap.

David Raya

Any chance we can get Nicki Bull back?
Always enjoyed that time he caught the ball then just wandered over the line for an own goal....
That was horrific. Was that v Southend. King Kev to the rescue with two penalties
Though that did prompt us to get Sczesney on loan I think

I came to that game with a Southend friend and another friend, the latter came in our end, I remember him exclaiming "oh the linesman's given it!" when you're thikning "surely surely that couldn't have been a goal".
Well remembered about the two penalties.
Also didn't know Alan McCormack played for Southend that night.

I have some faith that Strakosha will come good with a run of games, I get the impression that he's more of a successor than a backup, though I could be wrong.

David Raya

Some mad postings on here regarding value! Goalkeepers do not go for big money! We'd be lucky to get £10m!

£10m? ????

Goalkeepers routinely go for over £30m. We’re talking about a Spanish international keeper here in his prime. He’ll be at the high end of the market

Wed be lucky to get £30m for a keeper in the last year of his contract, even one as good as David. Maybe if he went in January. I think 15-20 is the right ballpark for summer like @RAF_Patto said, maybe more if he's going to united as they seem to love overpaying for players, probably as some kind of elaborate financial fraud if I had to guess lol

I think it'll be closer to that £30m. Phil will factor in the cost to us of him leaving, not just his market value. There aren't many players around with his skill set, though if Southampton go down, Bazunu is definitely worth a pop.

Bazunu is the love child of Jonas and Alvaro btw.

one of those many nights on New Road when @Brentford_till_die and I were pulling our hair out. I initially thought it was the Soton game when Kelvin Davis saved everything all night until we got a late equaliser. Legge maybe?
Ah the memories....

From what I’ve seen he loves chucking a few in

David Raya

Why do we need a replacement? Get as much as we can for Raya now or in the summer, Strakosha takes over as no. 1 and in a couple of years Matthew Cox starts his path to being the Brentford & England regular no. 1, or am I missing something?

Was that only 13 years ago. Seems like a life time ago

Raya was interviewed on Radio MARCA this evening. It starts at the 1:54:50 mark and goes on for about 20 minutes. My Spanish knowledge is embarrassingly limited so I'll leave the translation duties for others. Link is below.

Think he said he would be delighted to sign a new 10 year contract, as he fully expects us to qualify for the Champs League next season - he's happy with Conference League next season.

Amazing news!

étonnant ?

David Raya

Just had a listen. He mentions the future right at the end of the interview and basically says his ambition is to play in the champions league and to compete for titles whether in the short or long term. Unsurprisingly he was very complimentary about Thomas Frank as a manager and the club as a whole. One interesting thing was that he said he wasn't recruited by Bremtford on the basis of data but rather by a recommendation and conventional scouting. He said that was unusual at our club as we know.

David Raya

Well get good money for someone in the last year of his contract imo one of the best keeps out there, they’ll be no shortage of suitors
Let the bidding war commence

David Raya

If he's happy here then why is he talking about wanting to win the CL and titles?
and why won't he sign a new contract FFS?

I guess he's going nowhere today.
So David’s totally ruled it out signing it or is there still hope he may change his mind ?

Top 4 for us then.

He is going nowhere until the summer. Phil Giles has then got a top class replacement lined up to compete with TS who will cost less than 50% of what we get for Raya.
