You do know players cannot sign a contract with another club whilst still under contract of another?

If he signs for Spurs in January, he will go to Spurs in January and we'll get a fee for it.

The only way Spurs can get him for free is if they both wait 18 months and he's a free agent. HTH

They can in the last 6 months of a contract. HTH.

True, always found it funny that in England you can only sign a pre-contract with another club in England in the final month of your deal but everywhere else in the world they're OK with with it being 6 months.

Anyway, a moot point I guess as David has 18 months left anyway.

I wish I had not got involved with this! No one said DR was out of contract. No one said he was going on a free. No one said he was signing a contract whilst still in contract. I do not know if he has signed anything. I speculate that Brentford, Tottenham and DR may have come to a signed agreement that this coming summer the DR transfer will go ahead to Spurs at a pre agreed fee. That may be why Thomas was able to say with conviction that David will not leave the club this window. Lorris at Tottemham will be able to leave/retire with dignity, and Brentford get to keep Raya until the seasons end. This is pure speculation, and conjecture and will probably not happen. I will say no more.

Exactly this. My heart sinks when I hear this being sung. It NEVER works.

McKellar from the early 80s and Scezceny more recently would be my choices, but far too difficult to make valid comparisons over time.

Scezceny was fantastic but we had him in league one, and we can’t make comparisons. Comparing Raya and Woj at their peak is an interesting one.

Every mistake Lloris makes is an extra 5 mil we can add on to Raya's value if they want him before his contract is out!

Jokes aside, Lloris is shot and Spurs’ back-up is 34 (nearly 35) year old Fraser Forster. I’m sure Phil Giles was expecting to have to deal with David in the summer, but I wonder what price he’d quote if Daniel Levy called him tomorrow. £30m? £40m?

I’d pay good money to watch a negotiation between those two ?

As far as this window is concerned, I would say keep going!

It's true DR's peak value is now. However, £5m or £10m less in the summer may well be worth it if the club really are serious about a top 6 or 7 tilt. Hell, the way Spurs are going, Bees get the 4th place, DR gets his Champions' League place and signs on the dotted line!

He doesn't want to go there whilst Conte is there as he's likely to jack it in before long and who knows who the new manager may be.

Happy if we keep raya and enjoy his services a little longer, happy if we make an extra few million from the January desperation tax. It's win win and we're holding all the cards

Stewart Houston! On loan from Chelsea. Finally signed on a permanent. Sold to Man U. Worked OK for the signing bit. Made a decent profit! Sold much too cheap though like John O'Mara, Roger Cross, Andy Mac, Andy Sinton, Robert Taylor, Nick Forster, DJ, Asaba and loads of others. Our previous Owners could have done with a Phil Gates!

With the way the team is performing, a potential spot in European competition is on the line. Need every point possible to make it a reality, and for that we need David Raya. Sure, he’ll almost certainly be sold in the summer. But we will have a contingency plan by then which seems unrealistic now
