Can We Play You Every Week
David Raya
One of my favourites too.Len Bond
Wasn't he the Exeter keeper when we won 7-1 down there?

Yes and Raya was the Blackburn keeper when we thrashed them if I remember correctly. One of my favourites too.

Agree on former, not on latter.Steve Sherwood and Kevin Dearden too
Giles!Stewart Houston! On loan from Chelsea. Finally signed on a permanent. Sold to Man U. Worked OK for the signing bit. Made a decent profit! Sold much too cheap though like John O'Mara, Roger Cross, Andy Mac, Andy Sinton, Robert Taylor, Nick Forster, DJ, Asaba and loads of others. Our previous Owners could have done with a Phil Gates!
Not too sure how good a move this would be for David’s career. Spurs are a big team but if Champions League is his stated ambition then Spurs look off the pace for it for next season. Surely David would be better to play for us at least until the end of the season.

It seems like David holds all the cards here, we want him to stay, I'm sure he enjoys it here and by staying until the end of the season he is likely to have a number of different opportunities to consider. He will!
He meant now not later.Didn't TF says that Raya WASN'T going anywhere? If so, this thread is pointless - shut it down
You say he meant now - did he actually say that?He meant now not later.
Just listen to his intonation. You say he meant now - did he actually say that?
Well everyone is going somewhere later. As Eccles once said to his little friend Bluebottle 'everybody has to be somewhere'He meant now not later.
Raya WILL be sold in the next two windows.Didn't TF says that Raya WASN'T going anywhere? If so, this thread is pointless - shut it down
Considering what Thomas Frank said I have a hunch that it is already agreed! Raya stays till the summer, and then moves to Tottenham. 95.89239847% will go in Summer.I think he will go in the summer, not convinced it will be Tottenham
There's no advanced deals with anyone at the moment. Hence the 4.1273648% chance that he won't leaveEven if there were fairly advanced deals with Tottenham I don't see why Frank would say anything different than exactly what he said to the press? Dont think we can take it to mean anything
Oh God, guilty as charged! I think he wrote a reply thank you letter which is buried amongst my Bees programmesDidn’t we all send letters or sing songs to David Webb to stay once (and it “worked”) or did I dream that ?!

I wish I was clever enough to listen to someone speaking in a language that is not his own - and realise that despite what he says he really means something else.Just listen to his intonation.
I’m afraid he wouldn’t think twice about going to Spurs. He would double his money overnight and go to a club still with a decent chance of the CL and one where he’ll probably think he’d cement a place as Spanish number 1.
We have to be realistic that if any of the ‘big six’ offer serious money for any of our players then they’re gone
I was thinking that. Last big sale was Watkins and Benrahma. So I suspect 1 or 2 big sales this or next window (Raya and Henry, poss Toney) and it might explain why Schade is loan until summerWe haven't made a big sale in ages, its only a matter of time I suspect with our players being offered 3-4 times by the big clubs. I don't think it will be this January though.
Also it is probably a good test of our long term strategy to see if we can cope with and progress after making big sales of key players again. It looks like we’ve focused so far since promotion on retaining our squad and deepening it to secure our place in the PL. That’s been possible because the PL prize and TV money makes selling less immediately necessary to balance the books but the next step to progress needs more than that and to be insulated from decline as the core team pass their peaks while becoming more established as stars (cf Leicester). We haven't made a big sale in ages, its only a matter of time I suspect with our players being offered 3-4 times by the big clubs. It’s scary but next season’s post-Raya, post-Toney team will be a good sign of whether we have a single player generation stay in the PL or are set up to be a top half/top 6 fixture.
Schade's very good but he's no Raya between the sticks.Schade feels like a good first step in this (hopefully). A Raya replacement will be a big second part of it...

Potentially unpopular opinion but I think it might be quite a good outcome if Raya leaves this window.
- Half a season to "test" Strakosha to see if he is a worthy successor
Spurs will wait until Everton get relegated and try to sign Pickford.Spurs need to replace an ageing Lloris given Foster is in no way a starter long term for the club......and Ten Hag surely can't be happy with David de Gea's overall performance between the sticks this season.
Lloris is contracted until summer '23 and Man U haven't triggered the extension in DdG's enormous contract so I don't think we'll have any worries about Levy thinking he holds the cards in this stand-off.
If Boehly hasn't (meta)fiscally imploded by then I'm guessing Chelsea could also be a shoo-in.
The more the merrier imo.
Yep, fully expected a lot of people wouldn't see it that way. I suppose my main thinking is that any keeper will take time to bed in (as indeed Raya did). The 2nd half of the season now feels like a bit of a free hit, in that we can afford a few blips without any repercussions. Whereas a bad start next season because our new keeper isn't up to speed could be quite costly.Do you remember the last time we tested a keeper in this division, we lost about 5 games in a row. We will need to replace Raya one day, we may already have him here, but I would rather wait until the summer. I expect he will go and another "half known" keeper will arrive, a bit like Raya was when we bought him.

Larry surely you’ve been around long enough to realise that managers are careful with the truth when it suits them and obfuscate when necessary.I wish I was clever enough to listen to someone speaking in a language that is not his own - and realise that despite what he says he really means something else.
Or are you simply suggesting that TF is actually LYING to us mere mortals?
Schade's very good but he's no Raya between the sticks.

you don't wanna go up Brentford!Schade hasn't even played a minute in goal yet![]()
With Toney likely out for a long spell, the club will want to start the clock ticking on his suspension ASAP as there is a pretty much 0% chance of relegation this season. Ditto re a keeper - it will be important to have someone good ready for next season's kick off when the initial race to safety is the sole, prime focus. I believe that's why it was key that Raya was persuaded to stay until Jan rather than go in the Summer of 22. He's been a big part of seeing us through - now it's a case of when, not if, he leaves by the looks.I don't think we should ever treat the EPL as a free hit, we could wind up losing a million per finishing spot and miss out on magical Thursdays nights away to Omonia Nicosi.
But I think you are right, it is always going to be a risk taken at some point or other.
I agree, we are in a better negotiation position for a higher fee right now. We have Strakosha who has a opportunity to cement and show his worth. As a club the extra money we get now would help and go along way. We are not in a luxury position when it comes to finances against the competition in the PL.Potentially unpopular opinion but I think it might be quite a good outcome if Raya leaves this window.
- Probably a higher fee than we'll get in the Summer
- Half a season to "test" Strakosha to see if he is a worthy successor
- We are in as strong a position as we could have hoped at the halfway point so it feels much less of a risk if he goes (compared to, say, this time last year).
The better outcome of course would be signing a new contract with us, but that seems unlikely.
He’s done that lots of times.Or are you simply suggesting that TF is actually LYING to us mere mortals?
Always been the case. This thread is pointless really!
Not to me it dosn't.Sounds sensible
Trouble is Lloris is on 6 figures pw so that may well be his starting demand which I highly doubt we'd go near. Not to me it dosn't.
Rather he sign now with contingencies like offer price met, and / or if we manage a Euro place etc.
Just get an agreement in place now and then we can get sorted with what we have or get another in before the summer, so replacement has full pre season.
He's just advertising himself in Spain. I'm sure the Club know exactly what he's going to do and not do and will put in place the goalkeeping personnel before pre-season.Not to me it dosn't.
