No similarity at all. Antonio is almost 33 trying to play an excessively physically demanding style at which he once excelled in the premier league which he is no longer capable of doing. TS is 27 and in his prime. Your point would be valid if we had signed say, Joe Hart or Willy CabileroSorry that’s like saying Antonio “is” a good player because he has played 200+ premier league matches for West Ham. “Was” is the correct word…
Ive never felt we have ever had a really bad goalkeeper who was our regular number one, and in fact we have had some amazing ones, Benstead, Szcezny, Moore, Smith spring to mind.Understandable he would be linked to other teams, he is a fantastic GK. If he does go at the end of the day, it will suck but with an owner like MB I am content all will be well in the GK department going forward. No reason stressing until it actually happens.
I'm sure there have been a couple of stinkersIve never felt we have ever had a really bad goalkeeper who was our regular number one, and in fact we have had some amazing ones, Benstead, Szcezny, Moore, Smith spring to mind.
you think even as oyu regular number 1? I know Nelsen went thorugh a phase wehn he kept kicking the ball out of touch but never felt he was a bad keeper.I'm sure there have been a couple of stinkers![]()

Ashley Bayes was never a regular no 1

He’s leaving so we better get used to that. Can’t see him signing a new deal and there’s no way we will let him walk away for nothing in 18 months time.
This is sad if confirmed. with no high profile sales for a fee in the last four windows (just Dalsgaard and Marcondes on frees in 2021 I suppose), which will be five windows after this month, we've all got used to this team and the prospect of it even being slowly unpicked will be a bit jarring, particularly as whoever replaces him won't be seen as an upgrade for some time. He's not going to sign a new contract and will therefore be sold in the Summer
Unless the buying team need a keeper right him now I'm not sure why they'd pay a premium this month to have him sat around "just in case".I actually think this is a good time for us to sell? Call me crazy but here's my reasoning
-I'd like to keep Strakosha, not gonna get another keeper of his quality without spending big and his manager seems to be trying to kick up a stink in the press
-playing off those long balls from raya to toney are gonna be off the menu soon anyway.
-He'll fetch a bigger price in January.
-we are pretty unlikely to either get relegated or qualify for europe so it's the perfect time to make risky sales
Peak market value is always balanced against value to the squad.I know there's a school of thought here that we always always sell at "peak value" and and damn the consequences to the team but surely the PL money has changed that judgement a bit.
Rather keep him next season as well then let him go on a free
always had decent keepers , i agree.Ive never felt we have ever had a really bad goalkeeper who was our regular number one, and in fact we have had some amazing ones, Benstead, Szcezny, Moore, Smith spring to mind.
I sincerely hope that we get a lot more than £20 million for someone who is one of the best keepers in the Premier League.
Maybe we can keep the Strakosha bed-wetting in his own thread though.

Possibly they'd bid now to beat a summer auction (so then they wouldn't be paying a premium).

Even if bumbling fool is right, if we're talking about the difference between say £23m and £20m surely we want him in goal for 20 extra games, more than we need £3m.
Makes more sense that a potential bidder would be sounding out the options now ahead of the summer.
I sincerely hope that we get a lot more than £20 million for someone who is one of the best keepers in the Premier League.
He made the odd clanger but Dearden made some amazing saves.
Of course the balls in our court. We have never previously sold a player below our valuation. If a potential Champions League club come in for him they will pay our price or we walk away. Phil has sold players before!I'm not sure the ball is in our court here. Player will want to leave and we have to sell to make a profit. Good luck Phil G.

I've never really understood why keepers often seem to go for less that many outfield players. They can make a huge difference both for successful teams and strugglers (i.e. Pickford at Everton) - often more than an excellent midfielder. They are also less prone to injury and have longer careers, so as a big investment, they make a lot of senseI sincerely hope that we get a lot more than £20 million for someone who is one of the best keepers in the Premier League.
Need will depend on whether there are any other outgoings. If eg Spurs get a nice offer on Lloris and he fancies a last payday in Saudi they might well need Raya. If Leicester were doing much better they’d be sniffing. Man U must also be keen to upgrade on De Gea though fortunately he’s v keen to stay there until retiring.

Our price will probably be reduced from what it is now in 6 months time with 12 months left on his deal - don't see us placing a silly value on him and then having him walk for free next summer. I'd be shocked if we got more than £30m for him IHMOOf course the balls in our court. We have never previously sold a player below our valuation. That is better than £20 Million that was suggested. Our price will probably be reduced from what it is now in 6 months time with 12 months left on his deal - don't see us placing a silly value on him and then having him walk for free next summer. I'd be shocked if we got more than £30m for him IHMO
Jota only had a year left on his deal when he left on deadline day in 2018With a year left on their contract? I'm not so sure. It could be 20m or nothing
Trying to think of a situation in the past where we have been in this situation?
To be fair that is the top ceiling estimate - we might get more if a club is desperate now or in the summer but it won't be as high as most people value him IMHOThat is better than £20 Million that was suggested.
That's like saying Raya went down in value after the Newcastle game. One mistake does not make a bad keeper! Not sure about that, after yesterday his value to us has increased massively.
Absolutely! DR has already stated that he wants to play Champions League so it can be assumed that there is a strong possibility that it will be such clubs that we will be dealing with. As you point out the number of such clubs are limited and with only one GK each the number of opportunities are few. Yes it is most certainly not our model to allow him to walk away for nothing. Should that be DR intention then clearly the ball is in his court but we do have two windows, including the current, to make a deal. DR is proven quality a keeper who can win matches for his team. Any such club in need of a keeper, Spurs & Man. U exampled, will be aware of his worth and will be aware that if they want him they will have to pay our price. If that price is £30m then that is the price. My post originated as a reply to someone who was suggesting £20m which I doubt we would accept with 18 months remaining on his contract.Yes and no.
It also all depends what a club is prepared to pay before walking away and the number of potential clubs reduces the higher up the pyramid we go. There is only one first choice goalkeeper at each club.
I’m sure Raya is viewed as a great keeper by clubs but for maximum return there needs to be a vacancy at a big club.
Such a key asset walking away for nothing at the end of his contract is just not part of the Brentford model.
In that case, let's see how far we get by running down the contracts of all of our biggest assets and letting them leave for nothingMoney is the root off all evil ??
Yeah without transfer fees we would be in League One probably as those are what offset all the operating losses when we were in the Championship and allowed us to build every summer with higher value incomings each year - only the biggest clubs can afford to let their best players run down their contracts.Money is the root off all evil ??
Now in goal for Stoke. If we sold him this month, how many points would the lack of a competent keeper cost us between now and the end of the season? Right now it feels like a flashback to the days when Jack Bonham was our back up…
The love of ......Money is the root off all evil ??
Is that what happened in the Udders play off game at GP when he dropped the ball and they equalised? He made the odd clanger but Dearden made some amazing saves.
Also his reactions if someone dropped a sausage roll were second to none.
Kepa went to Chelsea for £75m didn’t he?Some mad postings on here regarding value! Goalkeepers do not go for big money! We'd be lucky to get £10m!
Ramsdale and Pickford both went for nearly 30m to English teams after they were both relegated... 10m wouldn't even get one of Raya's gloves in the current market. Some mad postings on here regarding value! Goalkeepers do not go for big money! We'd be lucky to get £10m!
Valuation is based on demand and current availability and there's no shortage of top 6 clubs with big decisions needing to be made this side of the summer window. Some mad postings on here regarding value! Goalkeepers do not go for big money! We'd be lucky to get £10m!
The mad posting is this one - Kepa was 80m EUR so if that is the benchmark we should be looking at £25-30m for Raya even with only 1 year left on his contract. Bear in mind not many keepers have gone to top 6 clubs recently so this list is quite old:Some mad postings on here regarding value! Goalkeepers do not go for big money! We'd be lucky to get £10m!
