David Raya

Just so I know, when is it scheduled that we satrt posting nasty things about him for turning down the contract, and saying things like "I never rated him that much anyway"?

Just post a YouTube clip of his mistakes ?

That should do the trick.

Raya has been brilliant for Brentford, but Brentford have been brilliant for Raya in his career development. TF rates him as a top 6 side keeper so deserves his chance when we receive an offer that the club considers acceptable. I will watch his future career with pride when he is playing at a higher level than we can currently offer, as I have done with Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma.

David Raya

Except that Watkins and Benrahma are no longer playing at a higher level than Brentford!
Of course not but for 2 years after we sold them they were. During that time not only have they been paid far more money than we could have paid them, Said has played in European football and Ollie played for England. So again brilliant players for Brentford, but Brentford brilliant for their career progression. Let's hope we can continue to progress to offer our contracted players European football and England caps. You never know if Raya goes to a top 6 club we may be saying in 2 years time, he isn't playing at a higher level than Brentford now ☺️.

David Raya

I would rather him go in the summer lol at how we struggled without him last season
We're definitely in a much better place defensively than we were when he was out last season. We became a disorganised mess when he was out. Can't see that happening this year with Mee in the side

It's a small club mentality to be happy that one of our players is moving to another club in our division.
It was ok to feel that way when we were in the championship but we are 8TH in the EPL.

The club don't want or need to sell him otherwise we wouldn't be offering him a life changing contract.

Obviously if a ridiculous offer comes in for someone we are going to sell because that's our business model and i understand that a top 4 club is a desirable move for a player but i'm not going to sit here and be happy about it.

What would you do instead that isn't going to alienate an influential player and potentially others?

We might be 8th in the EPL, but be honest with yourself, we are still a small club.

Did you read the last paragraph?

I did, I was just curious about the first 2 as you're happy about it. So just interested if you would do anything differently?

I agree we have deff improved defensively we have drawn and won games we would of lost last season, however I don’t think we should let him go until the summer, especially while David has been in top top form lately.

There's nothing i would do differently. If the player wants to go we'll do the best deal we can.
What i struggle with are posts that say if the player was to go then this or that club would be a good move for them and i'd be happy for them etc.

Those clubs are now our rivals and i wouldn't be happy if the player we sold improved them and made them harder to beat and i certainly wouldn't be wishing them every success.
I thank them for their time and am grateful and hope they crash and burn because they are now part of the enemy :)

David Raya

I've not seen anything that seriously links David to another club; there's lots of "Spurs/Chelsea/United/Stoke Poges need a new number 1 'keeper" and that he's clearly indicated he's not going to sign a new contract but nothing to say that BFC have been approached or given permission for another club to speak with him. I presume the Club has agreed with him that they'll deal in summer and he's agreed to stay until then.

David Raya

If Raya went elsewhere in the PL we’d probably know which of his weaknesses to target. Maybe positioning at FKs and saving penalties.

David Raya

Sods law he'd save one of Ivan's!
He’s too short to have a chance but I suspect both will be at other clubs before we see that in a competitive game so not too bothered.

Remember that the way we've worked over the last decade is that we promise not to stand in the way if the player wants away. It's how we've attracted raw talent in the first place. It would not be in our long-term best interest to deny a want-away player his move. Even if the money isn't 'ridiculous'.

I haven't said anywhere that we should deny the player a move.I also said that's our business model.
I wouldn't be happy losing the player but i accept it because that's our model.

Of course, just saying that our model hopes for ridiculous but can’t demand it.

Easy day at the office for DR today.

Suspicion of handling it outside the area just before he got flattened??

Can we have the "normal" DR thread reopened??
