That's the core reason why i have a problem-in-principle with 'de-anonymising' ... Either it goes against 'innocent until proven guilty', or the evidence of guilt ought to be 'strong enough' to not be able to avoid being remanded into pre-trial detention or even be in prison

Certainly a problem.

Otoh, when these alleged perpetrators' names are made public, if often encourages a lot more new, alleged victims or witnesses to come forward.

Difficult.

Wasn't that different, though, since the Police never gave him the chance to remain anonymous in the first place? (At least until a Judge got to decide whether his name could be made public, as with Sullivan.)

Instead they tipped off the Press in advance that they were going to raid his property and question him - pretty disgraceful conduct imo.

More the principal of naming people to help the police with a fishing excercise that may or may not result in a catch. Cliff will always be a dodgy bastard to me even though he is innocent

More a issue with selective/inconsistent gagging orders than anything else in my mind.

In my head anonymisation (and anonymising to a degree where it’s difficult to concisely say ‘it’s one of these X persons’) should be strongly enforced, with much more beefier penalties.

Doubt their board are that worried, still selling out or thereabouts most weeks afaik, more money to be made from GA tickets than season tickets.

48500 season ticket holders in 2024 seems a fair amount and with those kind of sales i dont think they will worry too much.
There was a high of 55000,but that meant no tickets for general sale apart from away fans.
The reduction in season tickets has released 6500 for members and general sale though.

I am not sticking up for Sullivan here btw.
Never been a fan of him or Brady for that matter.

In time honoured GPG fashion, thread has got somewhat sidetracked. The original reason the topic of “stuff that has happened at West Ham” came up is that Simon W hypothesised that part of Karen Brady’s decision to quit may have been to avoid fan backlash in the event of relegation; and less to do with David Sullivan’s alleged shenanigans.

Point being made was that Brady, Gold & Sullivan have already done plenty of things to justify fan backlash and it didn’t seem to bother her previously. Therefore, more likely her departure is linked to Sullivan revelations rather than anything else.

She will have known it’s him for months, so she didn’t decide to go because of what he is alleged to have done but because it was about to come out. This is not the moral high ground.

Just google "Phillip Green"+"Karren Brady"+ "sexual and racial harrassment".

You know, where she, forever projecting herself as a vocal proponent of womens' rights etc, never saw or heard anything untoward about Green and his (alleged) conduct, until stories about him started coming out in the Press. At which point, and after years of being closely associated with him, she suddenly stood down as non-executive Chair of Green's Arcadia Group.

I mean, how unlucky can someone be, to work closely with people like Sullivan and Green all that time, and never have the slightest inkling that they might be horrible scumbags?

(Or do I mean, how can Sullivan and Green have worked closely with her for years, without having the slightest inkling of what she's really like?)

Emma Jane Evelyn Benton-Hughes stopped being a director of WHU in August 2021 after an 8 month stint. She stopped being Mrs Sullivan in 2020, so perhaps a weird divorce settlement bullet point?
