Enough is Enough

I agree with that but we've seen flashes of very good play from our midfield. Could be a coaching issue. Maybe the lack of confidence is down to a lack of tactical clarity.
anworth

Bit of both maybe, but I would agree more with Hanworthbee quote.

Enough is Enough

When would you say is enough to start evaluating performance?

End of next season - managers need time to build a team and get them playing in their own way - we need to be thinking long term. I think Smith is excellent btw, really hope it works out for him and he is given time.

Enough is Enough

EVERY PENNY MUST go on the playing squad in January. b***ocks to badges, b***ocks to gantries, b***ocks to marketing.

It must start, and it must start now and it must start here.

The question is this: how much of a gamble is that? (in MB's head)

If we don't spend money in January, is that likely to send us down?

The pessimist in me worries we'll simply fund any new players by selling Hogan.

If we sell Hogan and don't recruit I wouldn't be confident of us staying up.
(even if we did recruit they'd have to hit the ground running not be ones for the future)

I don't think we will actively look to sell Hogan. I have a lot of concerns he'll go though.

I would be amazed if we didn't replace our first choice striker if he went. Staggered in fact.

Let's assume they would, if he did go, the question is then could they find anyone better than Vibe (not that I think he's amazing), that's going to hit the ground running and start banging in goals. I don't think that's the easiest job - and therefore a pretty massive gamble.

.........surely you have only one concern - that he'll be sold..........

Of course. We'd just have to try though wouldn't we?

It's a case of whether Benham agrees with you or not

I don't know. That's the big gamble for MB.
The cost of doing so versus running down the clock with Scott versus taking that gamble. Or even breaking the bank to keep him (I know people have said this is impossible - but nothing is impossible - he's the owner).

It's a case of a price for a player.

Someone will pay it this season as the league is so competitive.

Enough is Enough

Yes - or how he views the chances and costs of each route.

Exactly.

Relegation would be really too damaging to risk it at all, as I see it.

To Benham, though, the increased chances of being able to go for promotion in the next few years may be worth the gamble of saving funds this window.

Especially if he has faith in the squad of players - which up to this point we're made to believe he does, right?

Enough is Enough

Pretty sure he's got all bases covered :)

He's a smart chap but he's not infallible and even the smartest people can be put in a right pickle between a rock and a hard place. A large slice of Lady Luck could be the most important thing whatever smart decision is taken!

Every year promotion will get harder and harder with parachute payments the relegated teams will get.imo the best we can ever hope for is to get lucky in the play offs with the more likely scenario is seasons like this one and last ( up until those last 5/6 games )

That is something i see a lot of - "When Hogan goes, who will score the goals? We will go down"
And i think "what an utter load of absolute bo******".
Of course Hogan will be replaced IF he goes - it may be one player, maybe two.
I think that people that enjoy the pessimism think the pennies will go straight into MBs pocket (or FCM) and we will be playing 5 a side by February.

If he gets replaced it will be by someone "for the future". I can see us becoming dependent on Vibe for the remainder of the season.

Disagree, this season is particularly competitive, there will be much weaker leagues than this in years to come.

Once we're in touching distance, you'd imagine (as we did in 14/15 before Warbs got in the way) we might look to spend over the odds in Jan for the net gain the chance of promotion (potentially) brings.

Seem to remember similar conversations about Judge however when, last season he was unable to play due to injury the team as a whole produced more. Not saying Hogan is the same but it could be the case and whilst we will all no don't panic those that remain will see us to safety

It's all about how different people view the risk. Last season we weren't in as much risk of relegation (in my head) as we are now.

But Benham's a gambler.

Enough is Enough

What have you seen to suggest this? It's not a dig....just haven't seen much evidence of that imo....

The football from Forest onwards last season & the football we played at the beginning of this season. I don't want to sack the manager at the first sign of a loss of form which typically is not reflective and will balance out of the course of the season.

Better than Vibe, try Yanic Wildschut of Wigan. Strong, pacy and still only 25.

Enough is Enough

Not sure how you arrive at the conclusion it is not that strong, there are two teams threatening to run away with the automatic places, Norwich will be a play off team and there are several team spending money we can only dream of?

Not really sure you can say a year across two seasons is enough. If you look at his first league games, if it were an Aug - May period we would be mid table, not to shabby in my opinion.

If you want to see what constantly changing the manager does go and look at Orient

Good post

Enough is Enough

On what basis are you 'sure'?

Simply because he's a clever man who won't let all the hard work he's overseen go to waste..............just my opinion ;)

Well they are certainly not investing in commercial stock for children. Just tried to buy a keeper kit for an 8 year old and they only 5 year old sizes left in juniors and wont be getting any more stock this season!! I pointed out that its just a few weeks until XMAS!!!

How many 8 year old keeper kits would they need to bring in to satisfy demand? One?

They are not getting anymore this season not just before xmas for all child sizes. One of our best players is the keeper, so no to your question.

Enough is Enough

I guess because of the badge change its not worth getting more stock in.

The kits have been in a "Sale" for about 3 months now, the stock is dwindling and a new kit will be out in 6-7 months. The stock is manufactured and purchased on a projection basis, I expect judging by the stuff left in store they have got it pretty close. I am sure there is the odd person who may miss out but they are not going to bring in a new run of every kit at a huge cost just for the odd one off sale. I don't believe there is suddenly going to be a demand for dozens of age 8 keeper shirts and they would need to buy a large batch to make it worthwhile.

I'm amazed to hear Smith and excellent used in the same sentence :) Do you mean he's excellent as a person or an excellent football coach? The two are very different.
I obviously hope it works out for him too, but from what I've seen so far I'm yet to see anything that convinces me we have a coach that could execute a play off challenge.
Maybe a player upgrade could change his fortunes but that's easier said than done.
Smith's contract is up at the end of next season. Evaluation has most certainly already started and I'd say he's under performing.

The current seasons kit is not in a sale. If you run out of stock before the xmas season that would suggest they haven't got their orders right either. Stop going on about a single year group as well, they have limited with many out of stock in all ages and sizes.

Right on all counts.

I agree that this ought to be the effect of ever increasing parachute payments but I'm not sure it is really what has happened. Quite a lot of teams have managed to get relegated from the Championship while still in receipt of parachute payments (I think most recently Wolves) and quite a lot of teams have managed to avoid getting promoted too. Obviously having the money helps in that it makes more players available but if anything I think it has balanced out this season because so many clubs have parachute payments or the financial backing to compete with clubs who do so that all they've done is drive up the prices of players we'd never have been in the market for anyway (perhaps the only exception here is Canos, but I got the impression that even if Norwich hadn't made its offer Liverpool wanted more than we'd have been prepared to pay for him).

This season the division is much more even than it has been the last two, which has given us the unexpected situation where we've taken six points from the top 3 and only one from the bottom 3, whereas the past two seasons it has been notable that we didn't get enough points from the top 6 to be convincing promotion contenders.

The issue for us, I think, is whether we can get enough of our players to reach a decent standard at the same time while we're developing them for sale or return to their loaning clubs (as we did our first season). If we don't, then we'll end up selling one or more while the rest of the squad is not good enough to crack on and won't be in a position to say to players, hang on to the summer and see if you can go up with us (last season). If we have turned the corner this season and Smith has finally got a system which plays to the strengths of the squad we actually have and can hang on to Hogan we've got a decent chance. I think that is something that would have happened regardless of the money that much of the rest of the division seems to be awash with as we have always (in the modern era) been a small club for the Championship which has to accept that it cannot outspend anyone to succeed.

We might just need to adjust to having more seasons as an inconsistent but fundamentally upper-mid table Championship club which won't always be challenging at the top. That's not too bad - plenty of better resourced clubs, like Brighton and Reading, seem to alternate between fallow years and ones when they can line everything up to be strong contenders and it is the long term profile of clubs like Burnley and Hull.

Enough is Enough

As I was saying last week......

I'm sure we're all relieved after a couple of wins, particularly those high up at the club. It doesn't mean all the other issues should be swept under the carpet though.

Enough is Enough

..............still enough?????............

Marking the 50th anniversary of the failed takeover attempt by some club close to Wormwood Scrubs:
Mark Devlin said:
The marketing team is looking to chat to the supporters’ groups. We’re looking to see if we can put another event on to commemorate it and say thanks to those involved.
Any volunteers for a chat?

I had a weird phone call from someone at the club I'd never heard of. Apparently he'd never heard of me either, which is fair enough.
First thing he asked me was - "Are you alright, that's all we rang to find out". And he was surprised to find that I'd started watching the Bees back in the mid-1930's!
He asked if I would take part in a video to mark the take over anniversary and I explained my situation - that as a full time carer of a wife with a medical condition, it was doubtful, and he didn't seem to understand.
I explained how I'd had to give up my season ticket last season (again he needed a bit of an explanation) and he asked when or if I'd be returning to watch games. I said I hoped to get to at least one at Lionel Road - and he went into a sales pitch about my buying a three-game season ticket there................
I'm not a salesman - but if that's ther best we can do, Oh My God.

not quite sure whats wrong with that. you say you are going to one he is trying to sell you three, he's just upscaling you

I think Larry may be confusing a LR season ticket with the three game offer that's being touted over the phone for the second half of the season, which is the call I got Tuesday night. I think free membership was mentioned along with the tickets, which wasn't useful for me as I'm already a member. Bloke on the phone made a bit of an effort to be interested but I got the feeling he'd had enough of what seems to me like a fairly pointless exercise, can't imagine many fans would have committed to a phone sale.

No i cant see many taking up the offer either. But at least the club are trying.
