:nono: Is this man the biggest waste of space we have ever had at our club.
I wont bore with details, but in response to an e mail I sent club (matt davies)
with relevant questions regarding the so called smoking ban I got a sh*t of
a response from Farrar.
Due respects to Jon Gosling but had been waiting for some response for some
time as Jon himself said my queries were pertinent so decided to approach club directly again. They have my £380 up front, yey the reponse I got from this
prat Farrar beggars belief **** em

If it's as bad as that (and I'm sure that you're right as the Club has form for this stuff) why don't you put up your original email and Farrar's response on here so we can all see them and you might also copy them to Keith Dickens, the BFC board and the BU board so that they can all read first hand some of the stuff being sent to paying customers in their name. The Chronny is always looking for some news during the close season so send a copy to them and Mr Farrar can then enjoy seeing his name in print.

I know how you feel as I was virtually told to go **** myself in an email from the then BFC CEO Andy Finch in December 2005 which I cheerfully posted in full on the GPG resulting (I was subsequently told) in Mr Finch being "shocked" at my actions........:).

ok......its something I feel strongly about...the right to have a half time cig at a working mans sport of which I am a season ticket holder. Further as a season ticket holder I also believe in free access to and from the ground if that what it takes to have a smoke. I dont expect much sympathy for my habit but nevertheless the club have my money. I also was told by a staff member that for their cigi they would just use their pass to leave and re enter the ground.
Further to this when people pay for match day hospitality are they going to find that for 6 hours they are not allowed to have a smoke, that seems hard to believe.
Orwells 1984 is coming true in many ways but probably will be about 30 years late and many of us just stand by and allow it. I understand smoking ius an issue but it is also the thin end of the wedge or maybe an advancement of the thin end of the wedge.
My email to Matt Davis(as PG is away) was polite and to the point. It was sent as my previous enquiries were not being addressed. The email was diverted to Farrar who said the club has a policy of not replying to offensive emails and that I was the only person who had an issue with the smoking ban. He also stated that once a person left the ground they would not be admitted and the disgusting sight of people smoking outside would annoy the residents. He failed to address my questions and as ever his tone was hostile.
My email was not addressed to him and as Matt Dvis has some responsibility for the hospitality packages I would have been interested in his answer. But
like everything nowdays in life people like to fire the righteous bullets but wont leave their fingerprints on the gun.
There was and neither has there been during my enquiries any respect for me as a lifelong hereditary supporter who has given his all at different stages of his life. I am so near jacking it but as i will fight for my right to have a smoke a half time or any othere time away from the spectator areas I expect it will end with my ban anyway. It wont be very dignified for me but at leat will show how little the people at gp care for their grass root support. As I said Farrar is a prat and I meant it and I have suggested the club take him down before tyhe situation worsens.
Sorry if this is all boring but I feel strongly about this and just cant believe the things that are happening at GP. The thought police are coming soon.

Farrar

He also stated that once a person left the ground they would not be admitted
If it's for a half time cig and you've got your ticket... why not? Heaven forbid the gate monkeys should have to pitch in another 10 minutes...

Farrar

The smoking ban is from the Football League and can't be changed at club level. I can also understand the clubs concern for residents who won't want loads of fans standing outside smoking at half time. If I was you'd I'd have accepted these reasons from the club if they'd been addressed properly and politely.

Farrar

who's for a mass protest smoke? i haven't smoked for a long time but i'll have one in support of moribee's very reasonable request. for fox sake if you can't have a fag at football it's all getting a bit silly.
it's a football ground not a holistic therapy spa.

Farrar

You won't change the smoking ban. The only issue here is the way moribee's query has been dealt with

Farrar

there is no ban from the football league as I understand it,just a request. have no problem with not having a smoke whilst in seat....but for gods sake what is this country coming to. I am a gardener but the prffered planm of banning the use of mobile phones near plants cos of the rays affecting the growth is on par with all this. Farrar has not a clue how to deal with the people who pay his wages.

It is a recommendation fron the FL not an instruction.

Personally I know of at least 7 fans (beside myself) asked this question last year
and were told there would probably be a pass out system.

Farrar

I think they should at the VERY LEAST section off a bit around the turnstiles to allow smoking 20 minutes in and up to 5 minutes before the end...Poor druggie Nick is in therapy thinking about this upcoming ban

Farrar

It may only be a recommendation now, but a legal ban will be along soon enough if it's needed. Just because you are outdoors does not mean that your smoke doesn't affect others and a football ground is a place of work, so it's inevitable that smoking won't be allowed inside grounds.

I'm with Simon C in thinking that the way you have been written to (although we still haven't seen the offending words) is the issue here, rather than the "right to smoke" issue which is far wider than a BFC thing. I've heard appalling things about Farrar in the past, although I have never had any dealings with him and wouldn't recognise him if he walked up to me and said hello. I wonder if people took their issues to BIAS to organise a head of steam behind some complaints it might help. Too often I suspect that complaints are aired here and never taken up in a way that could achieve results.

Was Farrar hired by Finch? Wonder what he's doing now? Telling his customers to **** off, no doubt. :D

Exactly, that IS WHAT I WAS TOLD,but now the issue is being fudged. i asked this at the office when I got my season ticket and all the staff agreed with this.
My suggestion was to paint thick yellow lines behind which one must stand and make the smoker responsible for his own cigarette end.

Farrar

I know at least one BFC director who is a heavy smoker and I take it then that he will not be allowed to drift out of the ground at halftime in case it annoyed the residents.

Why don't you reply to Mr Farrar and ask if his policy can be published in full on the official website and also to confirm that it applies to club staff and directors......after all a director smoking outside is I take it as disgusting to the local residents as an ordinary supporter.

The club may have a policy of not replying to offensive emails but they certainly seem to have a policy of sending them at individuals discretion. I still wish that you would paste up your email and Farrar's response both in full.

Farrar

Moribee, why not just publish your emails to Farrar in full?

Farrar

brentford f.c.- a macrobiotic sushi bar on every corner

Farrar

Yup, and it seems that smoking bans are coming into force on train stations too so you can't even have one when waiting for the train from Brentford coz a SW Trains guard will creep up behind you and snap your neck.

Farrar

Moribee, why not just publish your emails to Farrar in full?

are they too offensive to publish............................. :fishing: :D

tell you the truth i have never smoked, but it has never bothered me when someone smokes at football, unlike at a restaurant. You'll be told when you can take a p!$$ soon so the drains on New Road and Ealing Road don't overflow the 19c sewage system in Brentford.

Farrar

no,my emails are not offensive,it is as I said. To be honest am beginning to feel I I dont care any more ,but its not me to just slink away, would rather stick the ticket up someones nose before i do that. They just dont care do they:sad:

Farrar

mori, I am not doubting your word here, but the fact that you haven't shared the actual emails with us leaves enough room for people to be unsure as to how badly the club handled the issue.

Farrar

if people send me their e mail address I will forward the email. My address is
[email protected]
I will be e mailing them again regarding if this
erosion my civil liberty applies to all or just the supporter. Also I will ask them
about people paying for hospitality lounge again.

The irony of all this smoking furore is that the
people in govmt???? who have passed a law have exempted themselves from
that law................so few of our public see what is happening...1984 is so true, just too soon. These same people think nothing of giving the go ahead to
things which are far more dangerous to ordinary people, its control mania.
Am disappointed John Gosling has not come
back to me as promised as he said my points were valid, but not blaming him. I
will have my day,but it will be brief like a firework and they wont care.

Farrar

Just give them up like I did.

Just cane them on holidays and throw them in the bin at the airport on the way home, you can not be an englishman abroad and not smoke but why sh*t on your own doorstep?;)

Farrar

have no wish to give up,i roll my own which is a totally different
concept from tailor mades,i enjoy them and why should i not. i dont go round murdering people or dropping bombs on their houses or lying to the public,am just an ordinary guy who admittedly is not a good democrat as have never believed in majority rule, but thats me
so why aftyer 50 years of giving to this club should i be all of a sudden an outcast cos i choose to fight for something instead of just being a lemming

I didn't want to give up but I wanted to stop smelling of fags, so I did.;)
You have my support, I will stand next to you outside the ground and smoke at any game you choose. However like crispgate I doubt this will happen but the offer is there if needed. I agree with standing up for yourself and take my hat off to anyone who does, I certainly do so if I can be of any use let me know.
I will be tabbing it up in Majorca between the dates of August 28th and September 6th and then in October in a destination not yet confirmed.
A shelter should be provided and a smoke should be allowed, like you said feck them if they don't want you.

Whoops.

Glad to see you back, Les I was a 40 a day man for 20 years and I really don't miss them. It's hard at first but if I can do it so can anyone, will power and me are not made for one another so good luck. The head plays tricks for a week or two and then you become a smoker who doesn't smoke anymore. Never class myself as a non or reformed smoker, that is for girls.;)

Farrar

I've never been a big smoker so its a piece of piss for me. Given up loads of times but this time it's final.

i agree. it ain't a f**king library!!! moribee, i smoked all season in the braemar mate and if any stewards etc told me off i told them to **** off. hope this helps. :sorted:

ps - Redmundo, move into the real world please, it's a football messageboard not the daily telegraph letters page. :sorted:

In Scotland the ban has been in place for over a year now. Smoking is not permitted in public places or outside in buildings with more than two sides, that makes most bus shelters no smoking as well.

Whilst they say taking in pubs are down 11% since the ban on fags, I dont think it has affected crowds at footie matches.

The smoking debate is a long and protacted affair but it is enough to say that people get cancer from passive smoke inhalation and clothes stink because of others smoke...

Believe me when you give up you realise what a cesspit you smelt like...

I gave up nearly four years ago and am now thoroughly embarrassed that by olfactory fatigue I didnt realise I smelt more vile that the dumps I left after a constitutional...

I blame Sir Walter Raleigh

Raleigh Out...or was it Drake....

What I'll never get in all this is the strange hypocracy of all the smoking 'bans'. Seriously, either it's legal or it's not - if it's no longer acceptable to smoke outdoors, then just ban 'em all together. Take cigarettes off the shelves, say they're toxic and ban 'em.

But they won't do that, will the tax-hauling hypocrits.

I am strongly in favour of the ban on smoking in public places but would vehemently oppose any attempt to tell people what they can and can't do in the privacy of their own homes. That's their own business and none of the state's to interfere with. However the protection of the health of the public and employees at work is the business of the state and that's why public spaces indoors and out need to be included in the ban. That's not hypocrisy.

Are you just being simple, or deliberately ignoring the context of what I wrote? And if so, is it to try and get a reaction, or what? Because it doesn't advance the debate, does it?

It's not just a question of tax (though I'm sure that comes into it). Any Government needs to recognise that prohibition would be impossible while tobacco is legal elsewhere; it's hard enough to control illegal drugs which are also illegal in most of the developed world - to bar something available throughout Europe would be impossible.

If tobacco were discovered now, I doubt if it would ever be made legal. That wouldn't worry me, but the same might apply to alcohol

I'm a happy non-smoker too now (gave up 21 years ago) and don't really enjoy going out to places with a smokey atmosphere. The worst thing is when you get to bed and can still smell the smoke on your hair.
I do think there should be designated smoking areas around the ground if there is room for them but I don't think there is at GP any more.
I smoked for 15 years and was always trying to give up, and it is so expensive now I really don't know how anyone can afford it!
Oh, and I'm vegetarian too (and no, I don't wear leather before you all start on that one)
I think I might swear sometimes though...

Farrar

It is a recommendation fron the FL not an instruction.

It's Football League policy, not just a recommendation from what I have heard.

Can we stop discussing everyone's personal habits and return to the matter in hand.

Farrar

I am strongly in favour of the ban on smoking in public places but would vehemently oppose any attempt to tell people what they can and can't do in the privacy of their own homes.
I agree, unless these people have children. As a child, I lived with a person for 12 years who chain-smoked constantly in the house. I now have poor lung capacity which has been put down to the passive smoke inhalation. Civil liberties is one thing, but smoking with children in the same room borders on child abuse. And I'm not a ****ing human rights freedom fighter, can't bloody stand them, they're the sort of people who manage to get crims off scot free while the victim suffers.

On the BBC this morning there was a report about a local council ()possibly Liverpool) attempting to impose a ban on people smoking in their own homes when they are expecting a visit from a carer/district nurse.

If the legislation has been brought in to protect employees then it seems that this is a logical next step?
