Because those countries are poor in terms of football, playing and financially, and with blatter in the hot seat they are getting the funds to continue to do whatever they are doing (making the fa richer in those countries where they should be investing in the game and not themselves).
Until transparency and a new leader comes in they will continue to support him.

He has lied many times including wanting to step down at the next election etc. He continues to say he wants to finish what he has started.. how long does he need, he has had 17 years so far to what he wants to do. Personally fifa should do what the USA do with presidency, can't stay in for more than 2 terms (if I'm correct)..

I suspect he will finish what he started when the whole of fifa is banged up.

As someone who works in the construction industry, I find that stat mental. The biggest achievement of London 2012 was the safety record during construction, and even then it was one death too many. Brazil's record in the build up to the 2014 world cup, whilst nowhere near as bad as Qatar, was also utterly unacceptable and widely condemned in the engineering trade press. FIFA did nothing then and has made no effort to stop what is effectively the enslavement of immigrant workers. For me, this is far worse than the bungs and illegal payments and is quite literally a life or death situation.

And they (FIFA) are a registered charity!!!

I think countries should be awarded the rights based on how they also will ensure the safety of any construction that will need to be done...

Alternatively, how about giving the rights to countries where the sites etc are already built, where if needed maybe just a touch up is needed at most?

There would therefore be no deadline needing to be met for sites to be built, no corners cut in achieving those goals too etc. Countries who are serious about hosting would have already started the ball rolling by getting their stadia etc up to standard before hand. The likes of the major European countries, USA, and even Australia (to a degree) would have the structure already in place and would only need a 'touch up' to get things to standard.

My preference would be to give the next tournament but one to the winners (just to give some breathing space to plan for infrastructure improvements. i.e. The winners in 2010 host 2018, the winners in 2014 host 2022 etc. Qualifying criteria should also be in place as above that the core infrastructure is essentially already in place and failure to meet them would result in the right to host going to the runners up etc. The downside is that only a handful of European and South American teams would ever realistically get to host, but at least you "earn" the right by winning the damn thing. Would stop this nonsense of non football countries hosting the tournament essentially for political reasons and make it about the football again.

FIFA

In a way I agree but then you could see that every other competition could be hosted by the same country. Realistically the only nations that keep winning are Brazil, Germany and Italy with the odd win recently by Spain and France.

Though the next and past 6 tournaments have seen only Germany host the competition and are the only nation since France to actually have a decent level of football within their country.

Considering stadiums are to be of certain capacity, what has happened to Japan/South Korea, South Africa, and Brazils stadiums since they've been used and will happen to Qatar and maybe a lesser point Russia? Not many used as football stadiums, or running at costs clubs can not afford to pay If being used at all.

Before Japan/South Korea we had France, USA and Italy. Although the MLS is not a massive competition (certainly in 1994) it's stadiums have such a multi use facility nothing has been wasted and they've at least got the funding and infrastructure to host a tournament without anything going to waste.

FIFA

FIFA is a charity constituted to spread football globally. Much of its income should (!) go to development in nations around the world. This is why Blatter is so well supported in Africa, Asia and other emerging nations. It is not a club for those countries that have well-developed FA's funded by Sky.

The organisation desperately needs reform but it suffers from the endemic culture in those states it is intended to support.

Not much he could do really. The idea of a second round made sense for contests where there were >2 candidates but effectively in this case round 2 would have been same as round 1 and at least this way they can get out early. I guess a small victory that he only received 65% of vote and not the 75% he needed for victory in round 1.

Do we have a Plan B?

FIFA

Does anyone know why Spain is a dissenting voice in UEFA, why they support Blatter?

FIFA

Do we have a Plan B?

UEFA should have the balls to start a new competition with all those countries involved and then invite the rest of the world to join in,Russia, Australia,New Zealand,USA etc,etc including African and Asian.
We go on about monies that FIFA "invests" into the poorer nations, well clubs like Chelsea,Man Utd,Barcelona,Real Madrid etc already "invest" albeit for their own eventual gain in the poorer countries,so what would be the difference?
FIFA can continue in their own Mafia way,but those countries that want the competition and the money that comes from it will join in eventually and FIFA will become a non existent entity.
Easy fix ,first two "Global Cups" held in Europe and then as said above winner takes the next, but say if England won and hosted, then the runner up or lower has eight years, but in the plan the stadia and infrastructure must be in place or at least able to be converted.

Whilst I would hope something may be started by UEFA or that sponsor pressure might force FIFA into a rethink, it looks inevitable that this is going to have to start at grass roots level.

In particular the consumer needs to start putting pressure on sponsors - especially since it is consumers in Blatter supporting countries that have the least financial clout e.g. Africa. Once sponsor in particular have big footballing connections - Adidas. Maybe a boycott of these sponsors would put pressure on FiFA, and yes I know that the issue is that there would be other sponsors to fill their shoes but the value of the contracts would fall and ultimately the replacements would realise that they are subject to the same pressures.

FIFA

I think FIFA have most bases covered ie breakaway? Refs are all fifa's ? Sponsors pull out? More will come in - just need the FBI to nail the old **** good and proper

Could happen. If found guilty it could be the difference between being behind bars and entering a plea bargain. The FBI really want Blatter.

Bribery goes on everywhere around the world but in Africa, the Middle East and parts of South America it is endemic. Guess which continents supported Blather.

One of the African guys was questioned by a journo on the news yesterday as he went in to vote, he was asked about 5-6 consecutive questions that he ignored all around hoe he felt re the corruption, was africa corrupt etc etc, he just ignored the questions at first but finally bit and shouted..."the whole world is corrupt...and you know it" as he jabbed a finger at the journo. Didn't even bother trying to lie or pretend, just basically admitted that it is normal

I have little doubt that FIFA is corrupt and that it deserves to be cleaned up.

However, none of the officials arrested are American citizens and none of the alleged crimes involve Americans.Yet the officials are subject to American extradition warrants on the basis of American law. The USA is not a participant in the International Criminal Court and does not like to subject itself to international law.

An analogy to the FIFA case from the FT: A country (say France) makes it illegal to emit greenhouse gases above a certain quantity in non-compliance with international agreements. US utility executives (who emit huge amounts of greenhouse gas) are travelling in a third country (say Switzerland) and get arrested to be tried in France.

Would the Americans allow it?

Isn't the American investigation due to the fact that the allegations involve CONCACAF which is headquarterd in Miami?

As much as I can't stand US Foreign Policy and Obamas Regime even I have to support Loretta Lynch and the FBI over this iinvestigation.

Our modern day Eliot Ness to smash the organised crime syndicate that is FIFA.

FIFA

Yes, all those arrested are linked with concacaf, they can do FA about all the others. So unless Uefa and individual FA's cause a major boycott it will just carry on as if nothing has happened. The bit that sticks in my throat is that Sepp Fatter says in his pre vote speech that it is bad and all needs cleaning up and he is the man to do do it and when he wins he starts to say it is sour grapes, bitterness and a witch hunt from Europe and he is going to reduce European teams and invite more remote corrupt Islands into the frame. To have to sit and listen to that is like pouring salt on the wounds of every decent football fan in the world, but nobody has the guts to stand up to it.

We should start by boycotting all England games home and away and on TV. Unfortunately too many happy clappers at Wembley who don't really understand or care about football and too many corporates quaffing free champagne to want to give it up.

What a sh*tty world we live in sometimes.

FIFA

...too many got too greedy........its not good for business.......the corporate gods were not happy....they told the FBI to sort it out.......the secret of being o good criminal is...........dont get caught...........blatter and his cohorts are dead men walking......FIFA in its current form,as a brand.is dead.....look forward to seeing what a new world order in football governance looks like.

Interesting to Google and read the recent history about Havalenge and ISL and Blatters nephew and...and...and...

FIFA

Exactly. But the Swiss authorities are conducting an entirely separate investigation into the recent awarding of the two World Cups. There is a bit of proper investigative journalism on these two different things but most of the media is just moaning mush, so you'll need to dig deep for it.

Trouble is Blatter is the definition of Teflon coating and I have the fear it will still prove difficult for anything to stick to him personally even if all around his kingdom crumbles.

The only reason us national chuck blazer wasn't arrested on tougher charges is because he ratted the others out for a lesser sentence

I tend to think of him sitting in a corner - but that's just me.

Maybe not just me as there are a few things around...

Little Jack Warner
Sat in the corner
A finger in every pie.
He stuck in his thumb
And pulled out a bung
And said "Lets all go to Dubai!
