Fitz as manager?

:imwith: I guess the majority are home game only fans.

He's already said that they'll concentrate on 'nice football' next season.

One key element was in those games that gave us another option, Kuffour. Without him next season expect the same.

The goals at Blackpool all came from long balls and a free kick. It was down to brilliance by Kuffour for the 3rd.

Fitz as manager?

That will take some excavation work....have you seen how fat that free lunching Fulham sniggering fool is?

rofl

Gallows humour but good to see this forum can still be a good laugh.

Fitz as manager?

I don't blame fitz for the sh*te we are in, I blame the plebs who appointed him in the first place, Dickens & Dyke with their set criteria blah....blah....blah which they had outlined for the job. They hav'nt got a clue.

Just read mickey adams wants a return to management, anybody fancy him in charge next season or even appoint him now. I would'nt have thought there would be much compensation to pay for Fitz he could just go back to the youths.

I'd be on the phone to him right now if it were me, he could bring Bob Booker as his assistant too!

Fitz as manager?

Fitz and Reeves ? more like Reeves and Mortimer except the later are funnier and would probably keep us up. Clueless management team who dont seem to be listened to by any players despite lung busting touchline shouts. Big mistake promoting the kiddies manager to the top job.

Fitz as manager?

on Saturday night I was accused on here of venting my anger towards Fitz as " mis-guided" .

From my view-point paying £ 20 to watch BFC the buck stops with the Manager and performances like Saturday are totally unacceptable as have been other games under his management.

In my opion he should have been relived of 1st team duties this morning and the clock should now be ticking to find the " right candidate " to put stability into this football club on the pitch

Fitz as manager?

Do you remember when we lost 5-0 to Cheltenham last season? MA was FURIOUS. I wouldn't have liked to be in the dressing room after that game. Needless to say we came back the next game and played with fight and passion.

I don't care how bad the players are, they need to be made to try harder. This is Fitz's job. I fully expect nothing to have changed this Sunday, and we will get trounced yet again by mediocre opposition.

Fitz out.

I am beginning to believe that he doesn't really have the respect of the players for whatever reason. It is the only reason for me that can account for the lacklustre performance on Saturday.

Fitz as manager?

In our mini league at the bottom of the table l'm not sure we won any 6 pointer game since Fitz took over. Infact Northants and Rotherham were some of our most inept displays.

l said l would judge him purely on survival.
We haven't, we move on and hopefully get someone totally unconnected with BFC. We need now a new look at the whole set up

Fitz as manager?

didn't take long to start did it........ heaven help anyone who plays for, manages or owns bfc ....

Are you happy with how the season has gone then? Should everyone sit on their hands and say nothing? We have had effectively two complete squads this year - one under Leroy, one under Fitz - and they've mustered 33 points and will almost certainly be relegated, yet you believe the fans are wrong to voice disapproval. Tell me - under what circumstances would you think it is appropriate for fans to complain about their club because I'd love to know how bad it has to get.

I don't know if you go to GP but would you not agree that the support has been pretty impressive given the sh*t that's been served up?

Fitz as manager?

I don't get to that many games, but get regular updates from GPG and my son who is a 30 plus games a season man. It would appear to me that Fitz's really has not achieved a great deal, apart from the team looking a bit more interested under his control. However, it looks like even the fight disappeared against Rotherham, which leaves us in a position of almost certain relegation.

Consequently I think we should start afresh next season and the club should now be looking in that direction, rather than wait to the end of the season.

As stated many times,we need a clean sweep from top to bottom, from Board to boot boy.The board thing wont happen which is the root of the problem. As some one said its two or three people making decisions then informing the others.A new manager needs to come in now to see the dross hes got to try to get rid of or salvage. If we could pay off the top earners it may be short term pain to long term gain.We need almost a complete team so lets not leave it until late June again eh?I know people dont like the Scouse **** but Mike Newell did a great job at Luton.Worked on a small budget, slowly assembled a team which played good football.Unearthed some discarded nuggets like ??( Carlos Edwards and ? who went for a combined £9.5M).These werent replaced, and there was a near riot at the last home game over the boards lack of replacing them.Id have him here today,I'd also give Nick Bailey a call too.

That is beyond any doubt Les but i think (?) the point being made was in reference to calling for Fitz to go.

Names like Mike Newell and Micky Adams are being bandied about but would they come here with what we`ve got to offer them. Which is £500k pa worth of players contracted for next year who have got us into this mess between them, and less than that with which to rebuild the squad.

Not saying Fitz is the messiah but he is new to the job and learning. If we change managers every 6 months BFC will get a major reputation for having a trigger happy board. Maybe i`m in a minority but i`d stick with Fotz at least until the end of the season. If we go down showing a bit of spunk i`d stick with him and only change managers if the last 8 games resemble Saturday`s disgraceful "performance"

I'd agree with that but if we don't win at least 5 more games this season, I would class that as failure overall and not worthy of an extended contract.

Hard to find anything I disagreee with other than this nagging concern I have about Fitz failing to obviously get the players motivated for Rotherham and some of his signings have been awful ( I do understand though getting anyone to GP is tough ).

Fitz as manager?

I'm not sure we will be 'saddled' with £500 pa worth of players next year.

I'm not sure we'll have almost anybody left, Thank god!

Nelson - off in summer.
Abbey - off in summer
O'Conman - Off to join Martin at Mongs
Trampton - Off to join Martin at Mongs
Tillen - off to non league
Heywood - Stuck with.
Griffiths - off to dye hair in Aus.
Richards - back with Col Utd
Keith - off to Dagenham, bye!
Owusu - Southend or Colchester
Kuffour - To either championship or big League one club
Ide - Probably stay
Ships off to more chips
Pillock- off to Wycombe, if not promoted.
Brooker - stuck with, may take pay off.
Scott Taylor - may stay, not wanted by MA

Add Charles and a couple of others we could make a 5 a side team.

Because of this I say Fitz out now, and start the League 2 campaign from here.

We are unless we can pay them off or offload them. Brooker, Heywood, KOC, Frampton and Tillen are all under contract. Plus about 3 younger players.
Theres at least 4 big earners (by BFC standards) among that list:wave:

So are you saying cos there is not many players get rid of Fitz now?

I believe the contracted players for next season are:-
KOC
Frampton
Tillen
Heywood
Mousinho
Brooker

That looks like a fair chunk of wages for a season to me! Not sure too many clubs are going to be banging on the door to take them away either, even if they are put on a transfer list!!!!

I do hope you are right on the Ide comment but I cannot see it myself!

Things have sayed pretty bad under Fitz and the record has actually got worse since he's been in charge. Say we stick with him until the end of the season and nothing improves, what then? get rid of him and give a new manager less time?

The players don't seem to be responding to him IMO, lets get a more experienced manager in who has more contacts and give him much more time to prepare.

Didn't they try that in November when applications were open? It seemed to me all the experienced managers ruled themselves out apart from maybe the not so good experienced managers. Once anyone finds out the terms of contract and budget expectations experienced ones with a good track record don't tend to want to know as they have their own cv's to protect.
I don't believe it's as easy as you may think.

Yeah true. This time we'd have a slight advantage as the manager won't be under as much pressure as he knows we're already down. There are worse teams in the division below and we should win a few at home. He'll have a clean slate to start with as such and have the whole close season to sort it. Maybe building a team from fresh in the bottom league with a clean slate and small budget appeals to some experienced managers.

Signing decent out of contract players from the division below may be slightly easier as we'd be considered one of the bigger teams in the league, especially if we had a known manager. Of course if league 1 teams come in for the players we'd stand no chance!

Agreed the record is probably worse..... but a majority of the points won at the start of the season with Leroy was very fortunate indeed..... then it got worse and worse and he had clearly lost the dressing room and the players were certainly not fit enough to compete at all, let alone some of the game!

Since Fitz has come in charge, the team has competed for every game (with the exception of Saturday) and has made the team more competitive in my opinion. I have gone home thinking that they deserved more than what they got, on a number of occasions since Fitz has been in charge! I certainly didn't think that when Leroy was in charge!!!!!!

I don't think it is time to have a 'knee-jerk' reaction to Saturday's performance and get rid of Fitz........ let's see what happens in the remainder of the season...... if the performances are the same as the other games I would suggest keeping Fitz as results should be a positive....... however if they continue along the path of the performance on Saturday I would suggest getting a new manager in.

Fitz as manager?

Fitz should stay until the end of the season, what on earth is the point in getting rid now?

I would hope the powers that be have a list of decent candidates to interview from May onwards though as I don't think Mr.F cuts the mustard any more than Leroy to be honest.

Things were bad at the end of Leroys time and the writing was on the wall after losing to Crewe. I think when a new manager and signings come in the whole place lifts and often people get sold a little by this, Shipperley etc.

I've not been a fan of Fitz for a while, he has not managed to win one 6 pointer game with a club at the bottom since he came in, we've lost 13 odd league games. I'm never feel like we should of done better, if anything I feel teams should score more goals against us, luckily we have Abbey. Booting balls long to Shipperley is not the answer yet nothing has changed.

Any half decent manager should be able to get KOC and Frampton back to being the quality players they were especially at Div 2 level, I would also expect them to be able to get them out if they want, I think other clubs would view them in a different light than on this message board to be honest.

Heywood should be Ok at Div 2 level and Tillen and Mous could at least be OK squad players or out on loan/ transfer as they come cheap.

Brooker is the enigma, talented but plays like a fairy and is expensive salary wise...he could be quite effective at a lower level if someone could motivate him.

In my opinion, Frampton was quality when he was made captain when O'connor was out injured, so Fitz can easily do that one, if he makes Frampton captain.....
KOC, maybe he was made to look better last season, by the quality centre back's at the club! His mind seems to be elsewhere and seems to make a lot of basic errors this season, on his current form, he should be dropped but who will come in for him....... maybe putting Mousinho at right back and either KOC or Pinault in centre midfield!

How can a manager get a player out when the player is in contract, without costing the club money? ....... it takes another manager to want the player and is that going to happen? Unlikely!!!

i agree about brooker he obviously has talent its up to a manager to get the best out of him he's a confidence player and he has none at the moment

Fitz. Cop out disappointing appointment.
Has made the team better than shambles he took over.
Unfortunately better but not good enough.
Hopefully his successor is being looked for now.
I feel sorry for him as he seems a nice chap. But so did Leroy.
As others have said we need to start from scratch. And a lot earlier than we did last season.
Hope we have some friendlies arranged against league standard opposition rather than the pub teams of last pre-season too.

yes bring back Adams, other than that lets have a right bastad as all the nice guys end up making us crap

Totally agree with Hanworth Bee on the right bastard bit.
I have posted my thoughts on this on The Next Step thread post number 24,our current crop of players need someone who will kick them up the a**e
hard !

Fitz as manager?

I think we should seriously be thinking about approaching Newell for next season, he's done the business in the lower divisions and he's got the right no nonsense attitude that we need to get us out of this mess.

Eyewatering stuff on the Luton Town official website

http://www.lutontown.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/NewsDetail/0,,10372~999353,00.html

Since they came out of administration in May 2004 players sold for £8.6m of which £1.852m paid to players, agents and football management. Newspaper reports are claiming that Newell personally was on 10% and trousered £800k from the transfers on top of his £400k annual salary. Somehow I'm getting the feeling that £60k plus a secondhand Fiesta to manage Brentford wouldn't be that attractive to him.

The playing squad/football management costs in the season that they were promoted from League One were £3.715m and these have risen to £6.574m this season assembling a squad which is relegation material.

Who'd be a football club director???

Very interesting reading and quite clever on their behalf to go public.
Isn't it fairly normal for the 10% transfer thing to happen but Luton Town are trying to make Newell look a bit of a turncoat and sort of answer his question of where has the money gone.:D

I'm not sure. David Webb was I believe and such an arrangement of course always draws allegations of "conflict of interest". If say any Brentford manager had picked up a non-league bargain for £10k and this signing turned out to be successful and attracting interest it would be very tempting to the manager to have an agent hawking the player around in the knowledge that if he could get £500k for him then he was personally on a nice little earner of around £50k. Recommending the "sale" to the football club board then becomes a fairly straightforward decision if a manager is looking after his pocket rather than the effect on the team and the Clubs performances. I recall getting into it over the David Webb "great sell-off" when I was arguing with the "great and the good" at Griffin Park at the time that if the executive management were gonna have such an incentive clause for the team manager then the full cost of the "duds" should be set-off against the winners i.e. in our case the full costs including wages of say Matthew Metcalf and quite a few others should have been debited to Webb's account. I also believed that the wages paid to players during their time at Brentford and then subsequently moved on should have been debited prior to paying the team manager his "cut". In other words there should in any event be a full costing for each and every player on the staff (I assume that this is already done as a matter of routine) and then if the board wish to enter into an arrangement for a percentage of the actual profit on the player including the costs of having him on the books rather than just the gross transfer fee then it could be looked at.

Yep, nice play by the Luton Town board and they rather primly say in the official statement that individuals cannot be identified but somehow Newell's cut gets into the papers........:)

It is interesting to see the level of the playing budget that it took them to get out of League One compared with what is available to us. For example to even hit the Luton "promotion from League One" level the BFC board would have to find another £2.5m for the playing budget plus perhaps £500k for the already built-in loss that we have. It's very hard for me to see how we can ever be competitive even with a new stadium when you look at these numbers.

I agree but the great thing about this game is that Forest, Bristol City and Sheff Wednesday never piss our league. Jack Hayward tried to buy Prem football for years and finally gave up and more often than not little Scunthorpe, Brentford, Colchester and Southend spoil it for the money boys.
Of course the playing budget is vital but it can also buy bog egos that can't gel and I have to cling onto this as Brentford have always been fairly poor relations other than when that nice Mr. Noades turned us into the Man Utd of the lowest league. The Premiershite is a different animal and that has and always will be money based.

Any idea what Scunthorpe's playing budget is??

They are running away with this League seemingly without burning the plastic or attracting big crowds and the very best of luck to them. When they lost their manager they seamlessly replaced him from within and kept up the charge. Clearly they have a board that knows what it's all about so it can be done.

They also sold one of their top strikers in January as we did last season. We got Willock as replacement they got Beckford (still unproven at this level) on loan. It seems to have worked so far. Although we were in a very good position still at this time last season for automatic and blew it. So maybe a few late goals might still start reining in at Scunthorpe.

Ditto Colchester and Southend but I reckon that all three of those clubs have bigger playing budgets. Perhaps they have a better model than us - tighter finances and an on and off field team pulling in the same direction.

I don't buy all this nonsense about it all being BU's fault. It's the individuals at management and board level not working to the same plans and a common purpose that worries me.

Agreed but the structure was presumably designed by Bees United and as you are effectively stating that this is not working then to whom do you turn.

The "Nothing to do wiv me guv......it's them management blokes not working to the same plans and a common purpose wot's to blame" doesn't cut the gravel as far as I'm concerned. We have been told by Bees United (well Brian Burgess their chairman in his official capacity) that Bees United has put together a professional board of directors and management team to run BFC. That was where (he explained) his energies had been focussed for a good chunk of 2006 and why his eye had gone off the day to day stuff at BU. Fair enough but how do you relate Brian's summary of the position at BFC with your statement that "It's the individuals at management level not working to the same plans and a common purpose that worries me".

Fitz as manager?

tighter finances and an on and off field team pulling in the same direction.

I think you've found the answer. Colchester seems to be a very well run club, everyone has to justify their position I suspect.

Care to comment Matt_CUFC? ;) :fishing:

The current structure at Brentford is not working, and I knew that before I joined the BU board and nothing has changed my mind since.

Fitz as manager?

Colchester have done the same and competed well in the Championship.

So what's the difference between the Scunthorpe's, Colchester's and Southend's of this world and us.

Is it their choice of manager, the competences of their boards of directors, sheer blind luck or a combination of all three.
