Fitz as manager?

Fitz as manager?

feel the need to add, that generally over the years I've come to respect the opinions of a few on this site with regards to matters of the footballing. They are all happier with Fitz. A lot of the people that aren't are the usual dummy spitters that are always suicidal.

So you're a sheep :fishing:

Fitz as manager?

. They have been very similar to me. Huddersfield and Blackpool under Fitz were just as lucky as any of Leroys.

Both of their records are hopeless.

Huddersfield away (2nd half) was our best performance of the season IMHO:wave:

Fitz as manager?

Can someone explain to me why the Leroy wins were all lucky, but the Fitz ones were 'thoroughly deserved'. They have been very similar to me. Huddersfield and Blackpool under Fitz were just as lucky as any of Leroys.

2-0 and 3-1 away from home would suggest that there was more than just an element of luck attached.

I really can't see how people can not see a clear difference between Leroy and Fitz, the guy brought in Wijnhard and Onijube for god sake !!!

Exactly. Huddersfield we played well took our chances and defended well, same with Blackpool. If you look at some of Leroy's wins, Bradford we didn't deserve to win and Northampton the goal came from an error.

Fitz as manager?

Ah, but if Ide hadn't of played well on loan and got that experience would he have been noticed and used in the team. ;)

Who knows but I would like to have seen him in our side earlier. Sorry there was no room as Fola and Widear$e were drafted in instead.;)

Yep agree, that second goal link up play with Brooker, Keith and finished by Kuffour was good to watch. I also think the home performance against Gillingham was pretty special and they were lucky to get an equaliser and the second half v Bradford was good too.

We weren't bad against Bristol City at home or Millwall away, should of also beat Bournemouth at home.

Fitz as manager?

Get used to the fact that Leroy made and is history and Fitz is the immediate future. (and if it hadn't been Fitz it would have been the youth team manager of a conference team you are comparing to Leroy.)

We will know soon enough if he is to become a good manager by keeping us up which is his only yardstick of success this season.

And if he fails there won't be a big queue of talent waiting to replace him either......

Fitz as manager?

I wouldn't say luck is taking over a team where ALL the key players have been sold and you're not even left with a team that could fill all 11 places on the pitch.

More spin.

Yes we lost Tabb, Sodje and Turner but we still had Nelson, O'Connor and Frampton, who we all know have underperformed, who else did we lose?

Most were delighted to be rid of Hutchinson, Newman, Rankin, and all went to lower division clubs.

Last season's success was not built on three players and a month from Campbell, it was built on a good work ethic, a fit team and splashes of quality. Leroy could have brought the same but chose to train less, and this is a fact, try and play a different style, which didn't work, and spend his budget on high earning players.

No-one is happy with our current position, the results we're getting or the fact we're going down but if you can't see the difference between Leroy's Brentford and Fitz's Brentford I wonder what you're watching.

Spin?????

Last season was built on 2 very good defenders and O'Connor having a good season, and Tabb in midifeld with Owusu and Campbell upfront, nothing else.

Frampton and Nelson did their best to give away goals throughout the season and were the weak links at the back. The 2 midfielders of Newman and Eddie mostly got bypassed through the season but sometimes chipped in. Rankin blew hot and very cold.

Remove 2 very established good CB's from a team and your most creative players plus several solid, experienced midfielders\squad members and you're in trouble.

Even Dobson could of done a job this season in midfield, we released and sold a stupid number of players, Marcus Gayle could of done a job.

The spine of last seasons team was sold or released.

Seriously, did you expect us to have a solid defence after Sodje and Turner were sold in the summer.

You just can't do what our board and Allen did to a team in the summer and expect to be in a good position come August, we need to accept the season was doomed once all the players left. It's crazy and we got exactly what we deserved for doing this.

Football is about results and so far both managers have been bad and the football recently has been painful to watch. Hit it long to Shipperley, hit it long to Shipperley.

So can I see a difference between Fitz and Leroy in the way Brentford play?? No, it's been very painful most of the season, although I prefered the football under Leroy, we actually kept it on the ground sometimes.

It's all about opinion I suppose, but I have seem glimpses of some very good football under Fitz. Balls out wide Ide taking on full backs, good deleiveries from Keith on the left. Even the long ball to Shipperley are not aimless punts and when they reach their target they have a plyer who can hold the ball up and play others in.

Fitz as manager?

So you're a sheep :fishing:

 I don't get to many games.

The people you are arguing with have a history of rightness. I think you're probably wrong.

Who else did we lose? DJ of course!

So we lose 2 CBs, a midfielder and a striker. Not adequately replaced. It's the spine of the team. THAT is why we are so bad.

I would lean towards Fitz being a bad manager, because although ANY manager would lose all their games with the players we've got, I don't think Fitz would do the job even if we did have the players. He's got no experience whatsoever.

Fitz as manager?

Who else did we lose? DJ of course!

We lost him in January, after one great month, when, BTW, we picked up a grand total of five League One points.

Rosenior had the money to replace him, albeit not as much as Allen, and brought in Moore, Tomlin (arguably), Wijnhard and Onibuje.
He also brought in Kuffour who was a good replacement but ditched Ide, who could have been.

Fitz, on the other hand, has brought in Shipperley, who made a huge difference on arrival and could still play a very important part in our season, and Taylor.

So, which one is the better manager

Fitz as manager?

christ sake, why are people complaining about leory's wins. It doesn't matter how we won the game, the fact is we won them or scrapped a draw out of a game. maybe he wasn't the right guy in charge but no need to argue about how lucky his wins are.

And remember that Rosenior also did not play Jo as a striker too many times, how many of us complained on here about this with Rosenior playing these other super stars up front! Was this not one of the first things Fitz did along with shipping out some very poor players to allow him to at least try and get some half decent players as replacements!

Fitz as manager?

This thread has become as useful as debating if one would rather go down on the Titanic or the Belgrano..

Fitz as manager?

The thing is, most people agree that Fitz has turned us into a reasonable outfit now, who will compete and at least give everyone the optimism that we might get a result before each game. At the end of Leroy's tenure, this was not the case and there is no doubt we did not deserve to pick up so many points at the beginning of the season.

In a way I can see where Beeeehive is coming from in comparing results - despite improved performances, and 'better' personnel, we have picked up fewer points - which is IMO still a big worry. As the old saying goes, football is a results business.

Give Fitz until the end of the season and then we will have a better idea if he can do a good job next season as long as we don't have a Leroy style collapse (touchwood!).

Fitz as manager?

My biggest worry is we've cleaned out some of the players and freed up the budget a little but then spent what we've saved on many loan and short term contract players who quite probably won't be here next season and who haven't really done a job for us.

Maybe using the extra cash to commit Jo and Ide to a longer term at the club might of been an idea or looking for players who can stay on for next season. Maybe even saving the extra money for the summer to help us next season and using what we already had, especially the younger players for experience.

Just very concerned we'll be rebuilding from scratch 3 times in one year.

Serious questions need to be asked to how the whole thing has been managed at every level. In my job if I don't perform I have to answer questions. As a supporter I'd like the same mistakes not to be made again, we've had no structured rebuilding process since all the players left in the summer. We were doomed when we releaed\sold all those players and expected to pick up similar players for less money, crazy.

Fitz as manager?

We do have a "with hindsight problem" here though.
On a personal level I was glad to see Tillen get a new contract and not overly pleased with 20 goals in 475 games Kuffour joining at the start of the campaign.  After Jo's start there would be very little chance of nailing him down but relax we had a one year option anyway.
The best full backs in League one signed new deals  and Oli was going to leave for free and what a player we were going to miss.lol
Big towering centre half Heywood joined and was going to be the daddy but took over the mummy duties.
Fola and Widear£e came   and none of us wanted that.
Anyway back to topic and although I grudgingly understand Jo's departure I can't understand how Ide has been allowed to run out of contract .. unless a deal has been done for a new one or a transfer I suppose.

I hope we are offering Keith, Abbey and Leary (if we can) new deals as they have performed at our level in a sh*t side and the division below will hold no terrors for them. If we are waiting to see what division we are goiong to be in then maybe I can tell them.
A sweeping exit will allow Fitz the chance to stamp his mark so other than Jo and Ide they can all gladly pee off.

Of the retained list only Mous, Osborne, Framps and KOC make me happy but we are stuck with the others.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing indeed...... I would add Abbey to your list of new deals as well!
Let's hope Ide gets a new contract as well, but I think he will be at another club next season...

I think we need to keep Charles too, he could turn into a very good left back with experience.

I agree with the players you've listed and the ones we should try and sign. I'd even want to keep Willock for next season as he has beileve it or not banged in the goals in league 2 before. Maybe Mousinho or Leary need to take up the responsibility of getting the odd goal. We need a CM who is a goal threat. I'd use Tillen as a winger and make him and Keith compete for the place.

More young signings from non league would be handy, quite a few have gone on to good things. Must be a decent centre back or 2 floating arond down there.

MIKE NEWELL?

I think we should seriously be thinking about approaching Newell for next season, he's done the business in the lower divisions and he's got the right no nonsense attitude that we need to get us out of this mess. Football is a results driven business and on that score Scott Fitzgerald has sadly failed, for all the people calling for Fitzgerald to be given a chance next season, we can't afford anymore mistakes, I'm sure in time he will make a good manager, i'd just prefer if he was learning his trade and making mistakes somewhere else now.

Fitz as manager?

if you've got the spare £250k for mr newell's contract then you can ask him.....

At least the team under Fitz appears to care and try. They are also fitter. The rubbish played out as professional football during Rosenior's last games was just an embarrassment.

Fitz as manager?

Its points that count in football not "caring" or being fit.

He has alarmingly managed to get even less points per game than Leroy which was a bit of a tall order seeing as Leroy managed less than one point per game.

If we don't win today, it is goodnight, and it should also be goodnight from Fitz (although I doubt if the Board will have the balls to do it).

Fitz as manager?

fitz has got to go
there has been no improvement since he has taken over
the results are the same
the football is worse

if he is still here at the start of next season then conference here we come

on the other hand he is probably the best we can hope for with the sort of budget thats going to be offered

can you imagine what the budgets going to drop too for next year its laughable already

lets get a new manager before the end of the season to start planning for next season

Fitz as manager?

Don't let anyone tell you any different - this was as bad as it ever got under Leroy.

One tactic - lump it up to a disgracefully unfit Shipperley. Poor tactic - poor signing.

Fitz as manager?

There still seem to be loads of Fitz fans around who can't see why he shouldn't get the jobb next year.

16 points from 20 matches is the reason.

This club needs a new broom sweeping through every single department, from the Board to the manager to the coaching staff to the players.

I cannot think of a single reason why Fitz should be offered the job for next season.

but then "its Brentford innit".

The inept Board of this club have already made 2 duff managerial appointments in the last 9 months. They are quite capable of extending Fitz' contract and making it a hattrick.

(is that enough "dummy spitting" for you Carri Bee Un). Have a look at the league table. We are easily the worst team in the division and Fitz has had more games and more budget come to think of it than Leroy.

I posted something similar an hour ago on the "Relegation Certainties" thread when I folded my cards and set the wheels in motion to pay out early on my bet with North London Bee.

Fitz as manager?

The tactics were as bad as I've ever seen at Brentford today, shocking.

A right winger on the left wing, a left winger at left back, a midfielder who is only capable of jumping into players with his back, a beautiful pitch for football bypassed altogether.

If this is a sign of what 'winning' football is and a taste for next season Fitz has to go or I will not be buying a season ticket to watch that.

He refused to take off the 'protected one' in Shipperley, I'm not sure why Pinault and Willock weren't on the bench. , maybe injury maybe something else.

In Leary we have a midfielder who is a headless chicken with no football ability, I'd rather have Pinault who can at least pass, shoot and sometimes go round players. Scott Taylor and Shipperley actually make the team play worse then when Willock is upfront. At least Willock was getting a goal every 6-7 games.

Kuffour probably gave us a false impression of Shipperley with his ability. At least we can have Owusu and Kuffour upfront, if he keeps Shipperley upfront and moves Kuffour wide I'll walk out the ground.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing in the second half, putting 2 target men upfront and having 2 defensive midfielders when you're 1-0 down, just incredible. He should of had the option of Pinault going in the middle with Mousinho and also leaving Shipperley on and taking Taylor off, just crazy. Owusu is able to actually win flick ons but Shipperely is not able to run after them, pointless and predictable. We needed a player with pace playing with Owusu or a player who could actually flick it on to Owusu.

If Leroy had to go then Fitz has to as well, his record is worse and the football HAS got worse to watch. Give Leroy a decent defence and he would still be our gaffer. He had Frampton, O'Connor, Nelson and Heywood out injured when he was in charge, it's not like he had the option to bring anyone in.

Let's all blame the 2 strikers Leroy got in and Tillen, Brooker and Willock, clearly it's all their fault. :sorted:

Maybe we should come up with a nickname for Shipperley and add him to the list lol

All he does is try and win fouls rather then try and actually win the ball.

Fed up, Fitz OUT, get a manager who will have the whole of the close season to plan ahead, start playing the younger players now, give them experience when results don't matter.

Fitz as manager?

I have been behind Fitz from the start, but even I am now thinking a complete change may be the only way to go.

cant argue you with any of that mate your spot on

GREAT SHAME

Just read my prog and have to admit I was moved. I was there 40 years ago and on this anniversary todays performance was a disgrace to the shirt and the memories of many people and yet when you read what that prat Dickens says in the prog you would think all was rosy. Am so sorry but this is all dying for me and I beg someone to give me my passion back. Nocoat doesnt really know me but I feel so sorry for lads like him and I hope they hang in there because I have more pride in him and other lads who do their bit away from home than i have for my team at moment.
