The dangers of taking flares and smoke bombs into football matches - Peppermint
Yes we used to play with fireworks and do stupid things which is why laws are introduced. Domestically bought ones will become illegal as they are in many countries like I believe Australia. There is nothing wrong with knives but people do stupid things with them so I’m not allowed to carry one legally. Laser pens, drones etc. the list goes on. As three3d says “used correctly,smoke bombs are worth it” I agree I used three in my house recently and haven’t seen a moth since. I have also been in a sinking ship but setting off flares was a job for the crew not me.

I dare say fireworks will get banned.
A lot of joyless folk about who hate others having fun.
The problem is with that approach where do you draw the line?
Cos if you want to start banning stuff "cos people do stupid things"...well then ..say goodbye to your beer for starters! And your cheeky bet has got to go too due to people who can't control themselves gambling their house away.

Banning everything the whole time due to associated risk isn't progress and is certainly not a life I want to lead.
But I tell you what if everything scares you...go ahead and sit at home in a hazmat suit?

If you allow a very small minority to ruin it for everyone else you will literally have nothing left.

Not a massive fan personally especially at home games, but just personal opinion. They certainly shouldn’t be thrown from the top of the west stand if that is what had occurred, however it is a mystery that some of you oldies survived going to football during the 80’s, the amount of bedwetting over this Leeds game has been slightly amusing to say the least??

I was lucky enough to witness 100 flares being let off on Kew Bridge when we got promoted.

It was funny seeing all of the BOBs walking around with them up thier sleaves and in thier pockets worried that the might accidentally go off.

It was a brilliant spectacle and probably very expensive for the organiser.

Flares in my opinion should be banned from stadia, they certainly should not be thrown.

Smoke bombs are different,they are not flares and to be honest i dont have a strong view.

Clubs need to be consistent though and broadcasters need to be on board with the message.

At New Griffin Park, thier is zero tollerancy, whereas at Everton, fans appear to be able to hold them aloft inside the stadium without being ejected and Ive not heard of any Evertonian being identified and banned.

When we witness these scenes on telly, the commentators need to stress that they are illegal in this country in the same way that they comment when thier microphones pick up swear words in chants.

I've seen some excellent shots of Bees players and Griffin Park in general on a Tues night after a big derby win in a mist of red smoke ... Made for a much better picture.
And this *precisely* why the cameras ...both official and what you see from vloggers' uploads on YouTube... *always* focus on flares and smoke bombs.
Cos they look great.
And that doesn't even compare to what you see at say Marseille v Feyenoord... Immense pyro show and added to an overall scintillating atmosphere like no other (feel free to Google Thogdens upload if you have no issue with him).

I actually agree with all of that and I’m not that particularly bothered about flares or smoke bombs as they can be a pain in the @rse but you’re right about the eternally offended and worried who want to stop everything they don’t like it as it might be a bit risky…like crossing the road ? I tend to avoid people like that all costs as tend to not get on with em instantly ….unfortunately there’s lots of em around as social media has given them all far too much space to shout their objections to fkin everything ??
there’s no way the authorities will back down on this pyro thing and I reckon next season will see them coming down heavy on anything like Everton game again …I’m not bothered one way or the other as it’s prob more fun for the youngsters than us old gits ?

Yeah absolutely.
Sadly though they're not just on social media.
These people exist IRL too unless some on here are actually bots.
You watch... They'll ban dog owners like myself from walking dog off lead in all public spaces too soon like they already do in some US States.

It's sad that too many scrotes can't behave or we could see proper organised pyro as is seen on the continent. You also get brilliant tifo. There was a game, in segunda a, where the whole of one stand held up cards forming a massive cartoon of that day's referee with dark glasses and a guide dog on a lead. Spoke to a steward after the Everton game and enquired about the standard of stewarding in the home ends. His reply was that the smoke bombs are small and easy to conceal, plus they are often given to the kids to carry in, as they are not allowed to search the under 16s.

He also said that for every smoke bomb or flare set off, the club are fined £10,000 per flare, so he reckoned that our game would have cost Everton at least £150,000.
