Formula 1 2011

You missed Austrian or Italian or Indian (if Di Resta wins). They do play the constructors anthems.

Reading back the main two that posted post qualifying only seem to post when it doesn't go Lewis's way and slate him. It went all quiet after China didn't it

Formula 1 2011

The only two drivers to win an F1 race this season, apart from Vettel, are Lewis and Jenson. At least we can type their names in posts praising or ridiculing them :sorted: and not deliberately ignoring them :grey:

Formula 1 2011

F1 is becoming sh*t again. :(

Get all the drivers in the same car/engine and let's have a race. This is becoming a snooze fest. :zzzzz:

I just hope Button can produce something to stop the rot.

Come on Jensen. Stick it up the red bulls!!!!

From 21st to 1st. Quality

:imwith:

The young man is Getting a bit petulant! Needs to realise he's not no.1 There are some good drivers in F1, he's just one of them.

Di Resta's 'incident' was avoidable. He ran into back of car. Should've been looking. Same with Sutil IIRC. Hamilton races. Expect the other drivers to race too :sorted: some of his recent moves have been terrible. Button is a quality driver and deserved his win, even if Vettell panicked and got one of the last corners wrong, credit where it's due, 21st to 1st in 20 odd laps. Has that been done before??

Salford, Di Resta lost it and came in too fast and was hesitant and got what his driving deserved. As for Alonso, he closed the gap when Button was alongside, 2 cars could've got round there, he closed in on JB. Button then had to change tyres remember so making him 21st in the race. The rest, as we say, made history! 21st to 1st..... Superb.

Button came from behind and won :bound:

Lewis will ram his way through...... It's just not racing IMO.........

Never read so much drivel in all my life... So its now Whitmarsh's fault and not Lewis's? :suspect:

Even Lewis is sensing that his driving is hampering his chances. He comes out and says I'm not changing my style, but inside he realises he has to, then he'll be back in the race. You have to make do with the car you have, Button's doing it, why can't Hamilton? Red Bulls are way ahead of the others. McClaren and Ferrari will just have to make do and look forward to 2012 F1 champs.

Really, all your about posts about Lewis seem to be putting him down and/or came after one of his struggles. How ironic after the first one we had the best race of the season and best dry race for a long time.

Er, I wonder why?

Maybe because you don't give Jensen the credit he deserves. :sorted:

Lewis is a good driver, no doubting that, but when the car isn't up there challenging, his driving is poor, making errors where he shouldn't be, whereas Jensen seems to make do with what he has knowing he cannot challenge the Red Bulls with the car he has.

Start recognising that and posters will stop winding you up :sorted:

But you said you can praise and criticise, your posts haven't shown that. I praise and criticise 25 of the racers this - one I absolutely slated all season has now been dropped (because he is one of the worst ever to drive in F1). The other I will not discuss because I can't be bothered with going round in circles but then some decide to still not let it drop. You leave those who despise Andy Murray to it. Leave me to ignore the other driver.

How long before Salford's first anti-button post ?

I think the real question is how long before certain others first pro-Hamilton post?

Formula 1 2011

Whitmarsh has got to go. What a ludicrous decision to put the wrong tyres on Lewis' car. Di Resta now best chance for home win then Lewis. Only good thing is Lewis can come from behind. He always has to do it when the team let him down.

Can Whitmarsh ever put a decent car for the best proper British racer, HAMILTON, to win another WDC? He messed up in 2009, 2010 and again this year. Lewis is the only driver in normal, and not fluke, situations to beat Vettel.

Come on Lewis, emulate my great hero and best British driver of the early 21st century, DC in winning the British GP twice.

Agree with you regarding Whitmarsh. McLaren haven't had a winning car since he became team principal (and his first car was truly dire). But DC being the best British driver, even of the early 21st century, is highly debatable.

...........waiting for the rain..........

Formula 1 2011

Lets hope Lewis gets docked a few places/points after that shocking overtake on the last lap/corner :fishing:

;)

Formula 1 2011

..........Jensen won't be happy...........

Formula 1 2011

Apart from being given priority over his team-mate in the best team on the track, does anyone else actually see anything special about Seb Vettel? He seems to be a great driver when he's pulling away out in front, but I'm yet to be convinced he can mix it in the field like an Alonso or a Hamilton.

Formula 1 2011

Hamilton did well today. Despite an ailing car he raced and was not erratic.
Unlucky not to get on the podium.

Webber won't be happy.
If he has principles, then he could quit at the end of the season, leving the door open for Lewis to jump ship.

Steady drive from Alonso keeps him 2nd I think

Formula 1 2011

Mclaren realy cocked up today. School boy errors all round. No wheel nut and what seems like fueling for a wet race. Lewis was having a storming race until the fuel debacle.

It may take a week or two before Button and Hamilton calm down.

Good race though, half the track wet and the other half dry made it a bit more interesting.

I think most teams would have done that and Red Bull would definitely have said the same if it was the other way round, although obviously in general they are going to favour Vettel as it's 'his' team, he's world champion and is the future of the team whilst Webber is 30 something.

It looked like Webber ignored team orders for the most part, which is fair enough, but still couldn't get past Vettel so I don't think he can have too many complaints.

Correct. Hamilton showed what a fantastic racer he is. Stewards were harsh on Schumacher but very fair with Kobayashi. Whitmarsh still has to go. Nice to see Lewis stick two fingers up at his critics once again.

Formula 1 2011

Vettel has one stand out victory. Italy in 2008. Putting a Toro Rosso on pole and winning was great. As they used to be Minardi it was great. I remember when Webber got fifth in Australia and it was celebrated like a win! I miss them. Some great clips on YouTube. The one during the most boring race of all time was classic. Would prefer them over Virgin and Hispania.

Formula 1 2011

Nurburgring up next. One that certainly can have very odd weather. Threw up a cracker in 2007. It was also the last time Murray Walker was commentating on an entire race - he did some bits yesterday on 5 Live. I remember watching the telly on mute so I didn't have to listen to the most biased man in the world and listen to Murray instead - it was FANTASTIC.

Is it that Austrian driver, ex F! chap, Nikki something......

Of to Hungary next Friday for a Saturday Wedding, thinking that the Groom had planned it so that we could take in the GP on Sunday.

What a complete and utter feck up. The Hungarian GP is the following weekend, when I will back in dear old Blighty. :(

German GP is more exciting. Go back via the Nurburgring. Hungary provides borefests. Been there, done that, got the T-Shirt (literally).

Formula 1 2011

...........Webber on pole for tomorrow.........

Formula 1 2011

Can he finally make it count as he did at the same race two years ago? Cracking lap from Lewis as well, outperforming the car again. I wish they raced around the old Nurburgring

Formula 1 2011

And certain people go quiet.

Hamilton won. A good drive from him today. Button unlucky again. Alonso pushed Hamilton, along with Webber, giving us A good race today. Do we need to add anymore?

Formula 1 2011

Can't find anything to criticise the winner today can you...

Formula 1 2011

Hamilton's move on Alonso typifies how much I enjoy watching a proper racer race. To go round the outside of one of the best racers takes immense guts and skill. He doesn't need DRS, a massive car advantage, or others making a mistakes which other driver's do. It doesn't always work but I'd rather watch him race than see certain other boring drivers not take a couple of chances. The true greats can pull off the most outrageous moves and complete an overtake. We saw that with Senna, Schumacher, Alonso and now Hamilton produces these moves.

Formula 1 2011

I only saw the last few laps..

2 questions for F1 buffs

1 - Why did Massa and Vettell both have to pit and let Vettel through ?
Similarly Alonso - was this due to using 2 types of tyre in the race ?

2 - What are the current drivers standings ?

Vettel must be a bit frustrated not being able to show he can overtake on the track.
Hopefully, he will be able to qualify in 2nd or 3rd in the next race, to prove he can beat Alonso, Massa, Hamilton and Button rather than just lead them.

1. You are correct, yes. In a fully dry race drivers must use the prime and option tyre. The Ferrari pit-stop was poor letting Vettel through.
2. The current drivers and constructors standings can be found here

Sky are going to show all the races in 2012. B BBC will only show half. I think Sky will do a better job.

Not if they break for adverts at crucial times during the race like itv used to.Think bbc have done a good job.Wonder how many of the BBCs presenters jump ship

The worst was in San Marino in 2005. Schumacher was on Alonso's tail for 20 laps. Three laps left ad break. Came back on last lap. Brundle will go to Sky. The presenter won't. He is on all their stuff. Shame for those without Sky but maybe the bbc will be sensible and not show Valencia

So blank overalls, plain cars, no hoardings, eyc.
Will be a strange atmosphere with no adverts !
Back to the 40s

Who is the most biased man in broadcasting please ?

Hungary is apparently not known for overtaking, I read.
Not so good for Hamilton, Alonso and Button then.

Good old Bernie, who once said that F1 should be available on free to view.

I wonder what the sponsors will make of it. I would have thought that they have agreements with the teams based on free to see tee vee. If it goes to Sky, the audience won't be as big, they won't get the coverage, sponsors leave or reduce cash.

From what Whitmarsh was saying the races will be shown in full on the BBC after the race itself

Formula 1 2011

I've worked it out.
Salford Bee is Arsene Wenger.
Refuses to talk about big star Button and after making any controversial statement, avoids all follow up questions.
Also aludes to conspiracy theories against his teams.

Where do I claim my £5 ?

Formula 1 2011

Button wins in his 200th GP. A quiet few days on this thread is assured. ;)

Incidentally, I wonder if Hamilton took that fateful tyre gamble because the team knew what was coming regarding the drive through penalty.

Formula 1 2011

Solid drive from Button. Great win in his 200th Grand Prix.

Hamilton made the wrong choice to come in for tyres, when the others stayed out, which cost him the race. Along with a harsh drive through, but the rules are the rules, so Hamilton lost the race himself.

Vettell........ :yuck: back on top by more points though with the points gained in this GP over Hamilton only finishing 4th.
