Have they? .......... old fart here ...... be careful what you wish for....without wishing to put any sort of downer on things, I personally don't think we're anywhere near ready for European football... to make any sort of impression you need virtually two players of equal standing in every position.
Realistically, let's continue to grow the Club, enjoy our lofty league position, and maybe, just maybe, have a good pop at the domestic cups.
Smiffy, "you're getting far too sensible in your old age" :hat:

You mean like our 2 international GKs?
Kayode and Hickey?
Collins, SvdB, Ajer, Pinnock?
Henderson, Janelt, Yarmo, Jensen, Dams, Onyeka, Milambo?

We're only really 2 players short of being able to say that... Sure, some of them are obviously not equal, but there's a good reason Rice starts every important game for Arsenal, or how City have basically played several players in nearly every game...

Our squad is incredible. We've just been incredibly unlucky with injuries. What will happen when Milambo and Carvalho are fit? And what about JDS? And we're also looking for the likes of Nunes, Donovan, Konak, Kim, Arthur, and Fredrick to move into the first team picture...

If not now, when?

We've got quality across the pitch. We could (& have) field 2 different midfield 3s to win games, quality fullbacks than can change, cover at CB, okay we may be missing a little bit of quality back up across the forward line (though Nelson & the two kids aren't bad).
I think you're underestimating the squad

No one is ready for European football. Do you think Palace were? You accept the challenge when it comes to

The larger clubs are usually ready. It's generally smaller clubs that aren't. Crystal Palace this season, West Ham before that and then Wigan who got relegated the following season, Burnley, and Leicester. They all struggled the following season.

And they can say they enjoyed their European adventure. Not exactly ambitious to say “not yet”, is it? Do you think Phil
Giles says that to a player’s agent we’re trying to sign?

I'm sure they enjoyed their adventure. Not sure they enjoyed the following season though.

What’s the joy in being so high in the table if you don’t want European football? You don’t get a trophy for finishing 2nd or below, and the club doesn’t take the cups particularly seriously, so unless your ambition is to win the league what’s there to be excited about bar 40 points? I honestly can’t believe anyone here wouldn’t want it, even if we didn’t do well it would still be great fun, particularly the away games.

Also, our squad depth is probably the best it’s ever been. Aside from striker, we have two good options for every single position. At the start of the season before his injury, Milambo, who we spent £20m on, wasn’t even making the bench some weeks. Nunes, who we spent £10m, on still isn’t making the bench. Bear in mind we’d also have a summer transfer window to improve the squad further, after very good prize money for finishing top 8, if we did get Europe it’s probably the most “ready” we’ve ever been?

Mph gone, Furo here we go, pondy verbal agreement.

Id be pretty happy if that was the end of business. Few loans for some of the kids on the cusp between b team and first team, maybe a permanent move for Maghoma. More concerned about hanging on to everyone and getting vita to sign a new contract than any more incomings

Once again quietly getting on with our business, without any song and dance.

We just get better and better, to keep the focus and drive to keep on improving is beyond most peoples/clubs abilities.

Got a feeling this will be a very positive window. Trimming the squad of players that are not going to push us forward with some exciting youngsters added.

And if im being greedy i would love a CM.
Think we're having trouble rotating our current CMs so can't see a new one joining until we know what's happening in the summer

General BFC Transfer Thread

Jensen: not happening
Ajer: not happening
Pinnock: no updates, west ham now looking at Dier
Schade: "one to watch for the summer" "Tottenham among several clubs closely monitoring"
Kayode presumably wanted by a lot of top clubs (talk sport say Bayern inter and Juve) but we hold all the cards. Same with Thiago and Damsgaard.

Plenty of time yet but I'm optimistic about getting through this window unscathed

As far as I see it, the team depth is excellent right now at every position. At least two good players that can play every one of the positions on the pitch. Still have to account for Milambo and Carvalho coming back into the midfield next season too. Additional investments, in my opinion, should be in high-potential young players similar to Furo. Unless of course there are other outgoings planned... but if we to push for Europe we will need th depth that we have. It could be a real danger to mess with the current mix of players we have, it feels as though the overall team fit is so good.

Ive been following the reporter on twitter for a while and im not sure he’s very reliable. He seems to link lots of players to lots of clubs and now and again one comes true. I guess even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Genuine question , why are you following him then?

I just love the transfer gossip 😂 In the summer he popped up on my twitter to say we were close to signing Kalimeundo, when I clicked on his profile he had quite a few followers so thought he could be legit, however, I’ve realised he isn’t but just never unfollowed him…..

Was trying to get to the source of that Gustavo Nunes to Santos Rumor cos I thought it was odd that they'd credit it to a journalist if it was completely made up. Looks like the original source is here

He doesn't seem to have references it on his twitter or YouTube but even in this article the Nunes rumor is an afterthought to a different rumor so maybe he just doesn't consider it a big enough story to be making dedicated posts about?

The article is behind a pay wall but a few Portuguese language websites seem to have quoted it.

Lucas musetti seems to be a relatively big cheese going by hus follower count and is followed by Fabrizio Romano, from what I've found googling he does seem to work for UOL and seems to be a beat reporter for Santos like Jay Harris was for Brentford and is now for Tottenham. UOL itself seems to be a pretty major web publication in the Portuguese language internet. I've not been able to find much either way that indicates their reliability for football transfer news.

Not being a Portuguese speaker Im having trouble finding much comment on how reliable he/UOL are considered for football transfers, but it does seem to be a real article from a real journalist. Enough to get the thread reopened?

@Banana enough to reopen my thread on Gustavo?

Santos is also negotiating a pre-contract with Vitinho, from Internacional, and has inquired about Gustavo Nunes, from Brentford (ENG). The pursuit of a loan for the former Grêmio striker is considered "unlikely," since the Premier League club paid 12 million euros (R$ 74 million) for him in 2024…

So, no.

I think how well we handled the December/January period this season is a great indicator of how well we’d handle European football.

General BFC Transfer Thread

Dunno, 2 or 3 seems a nice amount, 20 seems like overkill...
The point I'm making is that if we signed a 19 year old Brazilian forward for £30m we'd have a hard time convincing Nunes that we are the right place for him to develop. Maybe we want to continue our investment in him (and Donovan).
