Unfortunately it went the way I expected but a brave effort from the young lads given the task at the end. A great game of cricket. We let it slip though. Lancs win by about six inches.

No, not yet, they have a “fair and well-founded” case which will go to employment tribunal at the end of October

This is a really interesting study in how birth dates has disproportionately had an effect on cricket development. Not sure what to make of it other than being born in April is the reason I now realised that hindered me from playing for England ?

Saw a documentary many years ago along the same lines, about the relative "success" of students born in October/November (I.e. older in their year group) in terms of their eventual prowess as athletes.....

Btw the "tv crew" who were there came over from Latvia, and one of them lived near Griffin Park for a couple of years a few years back, he recognised my shirt and came for a chat!

Ben Compton currently 59 not out. That's nearly 1100 runs at over 100 in 14 innings - 5 100s and 5 50s. There is only 1 completed game this season where he has scored fewer than 100 runs and even in that one, he scored 96.

County Championship matches could be played overseas for first time as ECB mulls radical overhaul

County Championship matches could be played overseas for the first time in the competition’s history under plans set to be discussed as part of the England & Wales Cricket Board’s High Performance Review.

The radical idea would see all of the United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka and the West Indies emerge as potential hosts, with the hope being the move would ease pressure on the domestic schedule and help improve England's spin bowling.

Another idea being mooted is to create a new regional, ‘best v best’ series for red-ball matches as part of attempts to help England players bridge the gap to international cricket.

The High Performance Review group has so far focused on general principles but will now focus more on specific recommendations about the future of the game in England and Wales, beginning with a meeting on Monday in which some of these ideas could be broached.

I think it’s a great idea. Start in March, all teams go over there and play 6 weeks of solid cricket, then come back and the summer here isn’t as congested. First heard Michael Vaughan suggest this and makes sense to me

Do you go and watch County matches?

The County members have already had their Summer decimated with the Franchise

Now two of the seven matches they can go and watch may be moved as well

no, but who does anymore. Most people watch on the live links they now provide. They’ll still be cricket to go to, and I’m all for change in regards the county set up

I don’t think there is anything wrong in thinking out of the box. I don’t agree with all the above but staying with the status quo isn’t an option that will help English test cricket longer term. There has to be change especially with The hundred seemingly here to stay and dominate a large proportion of the summer calendar.

I went to see Day 3 of Middlesex v Leicestershire earlier this year. Sat in the lower Mound in the back row with my partner who works in cricket (has previously scored for domestic matches in Australia, scored for Windies, works with all the big broadcasters, etc.), so he's very keen to get people into cricket and all formats of the game. Whatever they feel works for them, etc.

Obviously we're lacking in younger crowds coming to county (quite often we'll be the youngest people there in our early-30s, and more often than not I'll be the only woman in a stand sometimes). On this particular day, there were two guys who'd brought along their children (three girls, probably no older than 7-8). The kids were able to stay seated for a couple of overs, before they started playing games in the stand (which mostly involved changing where they were sat). Because it was county, half the shops and eateries were closed, there was no matchday stuff for kids, etc. This annoyed one particular guy (armed with the half the internet/the Cricinfo website condensed into an unreadable and inaccurate-source-of-information-once-published publication called the Playfair Cricket Annual, which should be banned at all grounds, frankly), who decided to shout at the children and the dads with, "This isn't a creche."

Mr "This isn't a creche" then proceeds to read the Daily Express for at least 5 overs, only looking up to glance at the score at the end of each over, completely missing a spell of bowling from Shaheen Afridi, and a wicket. When the kids start running around in the stands again, he mutters something under his breath, at which point I tell him that, "This isn't a library." So he moves to the other side of the stand, across the aisle, to continue to read his paper. He's only really watching the game again in the last couple of overs before the day's play concludes...

TL;DR - I do go and watch County matches, and the cricket's great, but then spend my time largely getting annoyed some of the people that turn up. Something will happen, then I tell them that they're the reason nobody goes to County games, and suddenly I'm the enemy. ?

I saw this over the weekend and thought this was truly wonderful. A country going through hard economic times with shortage of fuel and gas but the Sri Lankan’s showed their appreciation of Australian touring their country. Sport is so powerful and what wonderful people.

He deserves a farewell game but I think this sums up his first thought is the team.

He was running about and jumping about all over the place in Amsterdam. Which was very unlike him. I think he was trying to prove to himself he could still do it. People will comment on his batting but the biggest indicator for me was his reactions in the field were noticeably slower then they used to be.

I believe I'm on a seven-year dip in form where 7 of my last 8 innings have ended in quackers, at domestic level, so they won't pick me for the national team :(

I've been thrust into an event manager role for this tournament - not sure I'm cut out for it! Been a bit hectic but we're getting there...
