I find it hard to find any enthusiasm for this. Its about as meaningless as the Papa John's Trophy.Gah forgot this had started.

I forgot it was a 10:30 start and Australia were already one down.Gah forgot this had started.
An afternoon watching Steve Smith bat is not one of cricket's finest sights.I'm at the Oval watching an Australian masterclass. Travis Head is going to be a thorn in England's side. Can't understand why India did not bat first especially with the sunny conditions.

There were dodgy conditions in the first session so India were probably hoping to take three or four wickets.I'm at the Oval watching an Australian masterclass. Travis Head is going to be a thorn in England's side. Can't understand why India did not bat first especially with the sunny conditions.
Cummins said that he would have put India in if he had won the toss. There were dodgy conditions in the first session so India were probably hoping to take three or four wickets.
Agree that usually you win the toss and bat first at The Oval.
It also seems to imply India has a devine right be in the final and stuff the points gathering along the wayWhat a weird thing to say. Maybe the BCCI will want to pick the opponents too.
A spicy pitch that Australia scored 469 on?Is the BBC Chief Cricket writer being paid by the BCCI?
"You wonder if India getting hammered on a spicy pitch is not good for the future of World Test Championship finals in England."
Indians in being asked to play in conditions that are unfamiliar shocker
Probaly meant spicy insomuch as even if Ashwin was playing he would be a non factor unlike pretty much every pitch in India which are usually rather helpful to him.A spicy pitch that Australia scored 469 on?
It was hilarious and just shows how cocky the Aussies are. You'd have thought that it had a chance of being overturned as Suraj reviewed it straight away and, suprise surprise, he got a nick on it??Brilliant - Aussies practically off the field when a decision was overturned!
Very unusual preparation but absolutely hilarious seeing him wake up due to the noise! He rose very sprightly but still looked half asleep. Seeing him crouch on the boundary before trudging to the crease made me think he was still groggy ??Another funny incident just now. Labuschagne, the next man in, was seemingly asleep in his chair but came to with a start when Warner nicked behind and the Indians in the crowd cheered!

isn't that a bit like saying the CL final should be at the Etihad because Citeh have been sh!t hot althrough the competition so far.How does one entertain themselves during the close season - well spend three days watching the best two test teams at the Oval in glorious sunshine and the drinks flowing. Cracking three days despite Aussies winning most of the sessions so far.
Australia on top after day 3 (suspect they already have enough runs on the board) and India have fat boy as their captain and not having Burmah or Pant (the x-factor) in the side hinders them greatly. This was the perfect wicket for Ashwin. Don't get my started. I really hope this is the last test match for our current captain.
If the pitches are like this for the rest of the summer (and it is a good test match wicket) then I really fancy England to turn over Australia in the ashes.
One thing that has disappointed me is the over rate - need stricter penalties for the captain. Losing 15 overs today is criminal even with the extended 30 minutes play.
Skimmed through the comments above - the early start is due to the fact that 95% of the TV audience happen to be in one country. The 2021 WTC final was the most watched test match on record and this match will surpass it. It would be illogical not to bring the start time forward. I would also add why should the final going forward be in England and in June. Nothing to do with the pitches but agree with a comment made by Tom Moody, have the final at the country where the team finishes first so they have some advantage.
Back tomorrow and maybe Sunday. Love the Oval - great cricketing ground.
Guaranteed sell out grounds. Too many other countries don't give a sh*t about test cricket which is why it won't exist in 20 years. We'll all have to endure forgettable T20 franchise tournaments sponsored by Sensodyne and local tyre companies. 40 years time cricket will probably just be a game played in Asia similar to a baseball "world" series. At least India will win everything.isn't that a bit like saying the CL final should be at the Etihad because Citeh have been sh!t hot althrough the competition so far.
there must be a reason why England has been chosen twice but I have no idea what it might be
and plenty of diasposa from every country that plays test cricket.Guaranteed sell out grounds. Too many other countries don't give a sh*t about test cricket which is why it won't exist in 20 years. How much of that time was caused by the batting team though? Injury, glove changes, moving the guy in the red shirt .... It's by no means just the fielding team which is why it is so hard to sanction.one thing that has disappointed me is the over rate - need stricter penalties for the captain. Then add extra time allowance for those events, that’s what they do in county cricket. How much of that time was caused by the batting team though? Injury, glove changes, moving the guy in the red shirt .... It's by no means just the fielding team which is why it is so hard to sanction.
Imagine an English summer where the 5 test ashes series is squeezed within 6 weeks and there is NO test cricket in August ? so to accommodate The Hundred ?. Remind me who invented T20 cricket?Guaranteed sell out grounds. Too many other countries don't give a sh*t about test cricket which is why it won't exist in 20 years. No idea why it has been chosen twice but they should not have the exclusive rights. I for personal reasons don’t mind it be played in England but it will change and quite rightly so.isn't that a bit like saying the CL final should be at the Etihad because Citeh have been sh!t hot althrough the competition so far.

Played it at school in the 70s.Remind me who invented T20 cricket?
Your "personal" reasons are exactly the reasons. No idea why it has been chosen twice but they should not have the exclusive rights. I for personal reasons don’t mind it be played in England but it will change and quite rightly so.
But you can get 90k at the MCG (if it was the two teams involved currently) and in season and probably high attendances at Indian grounds. Elsewhere you are right probably not. Test match cricket had sadly become the elite three.Your "personal" reasons are exactly the reasons.

With my neutral hat on, I’ve always said that win, lose or draw, cricket played in India and Pakistan bores me, I hate majority of spin all day with the batsman surrounded and appeals every other ball, I think we’re lucky over here as our climate and therefore in turn our pitches suit seam, swing, pace and spin in varying degrees, don't we get the best test matches that test all parts of the game?No idea why it has been chosen twice but they should not have the exclusive rights. Can't believe you've ignored Ireland. With my neutral hat on, I’ve always said that win, lose or draw, cricket played in India and Pakistan bores me, I hate majority of spin all day with the batsman surrounded and appeals every other ball, I think we’re lucky over here as our climate and therefore in turn our pitches suit seam, swing, pace and spin in varying degrees, don't we get the best test matches that test all parts of the game?
Might get 1 hours play a day if lucky. Can't believe you've ignored Ireland.
At the moment I agree. I know we had a debate back on the day but test matches that finishes in 2/3 days in India where you have a turning pitch from ball 1 is boring.
The Indians travel really well, credit to them.Where I think India especially under Kohli captaincy did well was compete away from home with a fast bowling attack to take wickets and win tests.
Pakistan wickets are a bore - flatter than my ironing bored. With that i thought England most impressive series win under Bazball was in Pakistan. They first test was highly impressive and not sure any test team other than England would have won that.

Six day is only for time lost due to weather etcCome on India. Six day test match isn’t it so no pressure to score quickly, *just* bat for 2.5 days.
I'm no Cricket umpire, but it looked a fair catch to me, in any case India have had a fair few dodgy decisions go their way so they'll just have to suck it up.
It's upsetting the biased Indian commentators so it's great fun to see.
Erm isn’t the 3rd umpire cricket’s equivalent of VAR?Good to see Indian Bee back on the cricket thread.
That Gill dismissal got me thinking why there isn't a VAR in cricket. Couldn't really tell in real time or with slow mo zoom whether part of the ball touched the ground.
Maybe not in this match but over time definitelyName me one dodgy decision that have gone the way of India in this test match?
Which can be said for every single team over time.Maybe not in this match but over time definitely
There's is not and has never been any law in cricket saying that the benefit of the doubt goes to the batsmanAll I will say is look at Gill’s tweet below. If there is any doubt surely you have to give it to the batsmen?
Been really great. Fortunate with the weather and the drinks have certainly be flowing. Kohli did look in imperious form but he has over the last 8 months but India are 1-2 wickets away from been bowled out easy. Apart from Jadeja not a lot to come after this pair. So good to managed one’s expectations. Oval is such a great ground to watch cricket.Glad you’ve had a good day IB.
Like you say, Aussies very much favourites but has the potential to be a legendary day if Kohli and co could could pull it off.
You’ve got be there surely, just in case….
