Smith, the biggest cheat along with his mate in the history of cricket
and allowed to play international cricket.Totally unbelievable.

I don't think it really matters, the balls not gone dead and he's handled it, it seems a fairly obvious dismissal to me.
If the Fielding side don't appeal he can't be given out, of course it matters

It was a ridiculous thing to do, absolutely no reason for him to try and catch the ball. Definitely out and the fielding side were right to appeal.

Oh yeah it was a silly thing to do. If I had been captain of the fielding team I wouldn't have appealed. Easy thing to say in village cricket on a Saturday afternoon different situation in a pressured environment like the county championship

At Somerset v Gloucs West Country Derby tonight.
High sixes all round as Somerset won with 3 balls to spare!!!

Very strange being in amongst a crowd of partisan/nervous fans when I truly didn't give a toss about who won!!!! Can't remember the last time I was at a sporting event under those conditions!! ?
Was an entertaining evening though, and lovely and sunny too.....?

I had to Google this earlier. Handling the ball was removed as a stand-alone method of dismissal in 2017 and is now incorporated into obstructing the field.
So has the maximum possible ways of being out been reduced?

Yes. You can no longer be given out for ‘handling the ball’ as a stand alone method of dismissal. Handling the ball would result in dismissal for ‘obstructing the field.’

Disgraceful disrepect for one of the great trivia questions

Incredible game in the world cup qualifier between West Indies and the Netherlands. Windies batted first and set the Netherlands 375 to win, they got themselves into a position where they only needed a single off of the final ball to win but Logan Van Beek was out for the Netherlands and the game went to a super over.

The Netherlands faced their over first and sent Van Beek back out to bat for them, he smashed Jason Holder for 3 fours and 3 sixes to hit 30 off of one over, some way to comeback especially considering he usually bats number 9 for them. Windies started their over with a six but couldn't keep up and ended up scoring 8 runs and losing 2 wickets, therefore losing by 22 runs!

Good report although you omitted to say who the Netherlands bowler was in the super over............... yup, that man Van Beek. Talk about a one man show

I umpire, select and try to attract new players to a local team up here, we looked dead and buried two years ago when we lost a few but through hard graft and me asking anyone I ever pass in the street if they play the game, we’re strong again with numbers. We’ve got an Afghan lad who had only ever bowled in the street, 20 years old and his bowling is getting faster with more swing and movement to slips, basically superb to umpire. Small lad who has an eye with the bat and hits massive sixes, found a new batter/bowler who will really help us too, we have a 14 yr old county kid who bats, bowls and good in the field, broken finger.?
This weekend we had 2 league games with a hastily arranged Sunday one, we got two sides, strong on the Sat but weak on the Sun, the Sat boys hit 242-4 and won in a canter with an out of form opener hitting 113 no including a 6 to get him into three figures, the Afghan lad 48 no with 6s and 4s.
The opener couldn’t move in the field, everything hurt, turned up on the Sunday, I thought 0, he hit 68 before running out of gas and holing out and our 132-2 against a club with many teams who’d strengthened with players available on a Sunday from higher division sides, we were weak and all out for 185, much better than I thought, our Afghan lad, Tawab, starts to skittle them and our 68 yr old other opening bowler, hadn’t played for ages but needs must gets 2-19 off 5, they are on 73-8!?
Our opener in great form, attempts a catch at point but drops it, his finger is at 90 degrees with bone showing! Their umpire had little sympathy, hurry up and let’s get going, he’s driven to A&E, we have 9 in the field and again are very weak, they beat us by one wicket by nudging into every available gap and they were plenty of them, opener ends up having an op to save his finger.?
The extraordinary side of club cricket!

Hardly surprising he's not able to nail down a starting place for Man Utd.

I may be stirring up a Hornet Nest, but what other pace bowler do we have other than this test selection , Potts and Archer . I’m asking because surely this must be the end of Anderson and Broad . Hope it does not happen but if we loose this and the next test , we should start to look at the next group

Gus Atkinson at Surrey is one to watch. Can bowl speeds touching 90mph and has a nasty bouncer.

He might still be young but I think Archer is done already for Test Cricket. Guy is just too fragile and I think he'll end up a 50 over (hopefully) or T20 player only. I like Mark Wood too but he's always breaking down. With the exception of Jimmy and Broad, it's a familiar problem with our quickies.

West Indies on the verge of not qualifying for this years World Cup.

Scotland need 22 off 72 balls, with 8 wickets remaining to knock them out.

Scotland win by 7 wickets with the best part of 7 overs remaining.

Not watching it, but following it on Cricinfo.

Amazing end to the First T20 between Bangladesh and Afghanistan.

Bangladesh needed six off of the last over, hit four off the first ball, Karim Janat then took a hat-trick, before Shoriful Islam hit four off the penultimate ball to win by two wickets.

India closing in on an innings victory over The West Indies.
Bowled them out for 150 in the First Innings, then thanks mainly to debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal's 171, and Rohit Sharma 103, who put on 229 for the first wicket, declared on 421-5, for a lead of 271, have now reduced WI to 27-2, who still trail by 244.

Question for @Indian Bee

Where did you find Jaiswal from?

From India ? seriously he showed in the IPL what a talent he is and averages around 80 in the 12-15 first class matches he has played. He is some talent that can play long and aggressive and for India going forward needed a left handed in the top 4. With Gill although no shown in this test they are the biggest two prospects in all formats. I’ll be surprised if Jaiswal isn’t now included in the World Cup squad. He is explosive when gets going.

I have been watching this test and the biggest disappointment is just how far the WI has fallen. Crazy how they have failed to qualify for the 50 over World Cup.

Now don’t get me started why Ashwin wasn’t selected for the WTC final. Fat boy (Sharma) was also fortunate with his 100 when it was umpires call on a lbw when on 5.

So sad to see the demise of WI cricket
Indeed.

I'm old enough to remember watching them destroy teams, especially England in the 70's and beyond.
They seem to have a unending conveyor belt of fast bowlers, so long that Middlesex benefitted by having Wayne Daniel for eleven seasons.

General Cricket Thread

Absolute no contest. Windies cricket in complete disarray. I genuinely think that Ireland may be ahead of them currently. They need to go back to the regional islands and play lots of first class cricket to build themselves back again.

Very sad state of affairs. Grew up watching the great WI sides in the 80s and early 90s. Their support in English grounds was just simply amazing. Just really sad to see how far they ans other test teams have fallen. World cricket needs more competitive test teams other than England, India and Australia.

I would guess that 90% of those cricketing countries supporters agree but nothing will change because the respective cricket boards don't see it as their problem.

Probably true and not helped either that England will not be touring WI in this World Cup test cycle. A tour by England generates so much money for the WI board.

This remind me that I would urge any cricket fan who hasn’t seen it to watch the documentary ‘Fire in Babylon’. Amazing do about WI cricket back in their heyday.
