Not directed at brightonbee...in particular..

Why get hung up, on this Andersen / Anderson guy..he had one good game for us, but surely we can scout and talk and deal and find a young or relatively good prospect who wants to sign for us ?

I don;t know how anyone could rate him above Hamer, how many times has he played for Reading, or anyone ?

Plenty more keepers in the nets........

Did I say I rate him above Hamer!?

I said he is/was considered by many reading fans as ahead of Hamer in the pecking order. This is true - check it out.

Hamer will be 3rd choice at the MadStad next season behind Federici and then Anderssen (sp?). If he has indeed signed a contract it is so Reading dont lose a valuable asset. It therefore follows that to keep said asset 'up to speed', he needs to be loaned out to get regular 1st team football. The only debate, as far as i can see it, is can we afford what maybe higher costs for the more valuable player that he may be perceived to be now.

We've had him for 2 years, thats what most get at best in full contract.

Why do you think that Andersen has overtaken Hamer in RFC's ranking?

Andersen is a year younger and Ben has had 18 months of full-time match experience.

I think it completely depends on who the new Reading Manager is, a possibility is that the new Manager would prefer to send young players with potential to the club(s) where the new Manager has previously played, been a member of the backroom staff or managed. Normally because he knows and trusts the set up at the club.

If, as quoted here ( http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11673_5321410,00.html ), then its a distinct possibility we might see the better prospects from Reading heading souh-west, for example.

Just a thought. :(

I hate to say this, but i was told by someone 'in the know'! This is often a very weak area of sources i know, but this bloke IS well in with what goes on at Reading, and he certainly believes it to be so. He may be wrong of course, but he reckons that it is the case. I am now prepared to be acutely embarrassed!

As this thread is titled Hamer and Bennett does anyone have any news on Bennett yet? A lot has been said about Ben's contract with Reading and whether he will sign for us on loan etc however not much been said about Bennett? I don't know how soon after the season finishes the business end starts again with contracts etc and I know Bennett has been offered terms with us, but all seems very quiet at the moment? :confused:

Now Coppell has gone, it might not be as easy to get these fantastic loan deals that we've been privileged to....

I would add that having seen Federici play a couple of times for Southend last season. It may well not be long before Hamer & Andersen are battling out for number 1 spot. ;)

Andy has been talking to Reading about Andersen, so I imagine that the relationship there is still intact.

Reading have been linked to Tisdale as a possible new boss. If they get a bright young manager who has just taken a team out of League Two then maybe Hamer is pretty much guaranteed a start. I'm only saying it as I can't believe that nobody else has.

I have a mate who is a season ST at Reading ... he has told me that Federici is definately 1st choice.

Andersen was No 2 and Hamer No 3 last season, but he is not sure who will be No 2 this season. Also they have another young keeper called McCarthy who has come through the acadamy (like Ben) who who thinks they might want to loan out for a season

McCarthy went on loan to Aldershot and looked very callow and immature to me and nowhere near ready to play regularly at first team level. Andersen too would be a risk over a whole season IMO.

If we can't get Hamer then perhaps it is time to start looking beyond Reading for our next first choice keeper.

I suspect we will need to rely upon our keeper a fair bit more than last season and I want to feel reassured that we have someone not just with ability back there but also with some reasonable level of experience.

Things appear to be not as simple as many think. Looks like a lot of talking left to be done with Bennett and Phillips. Could be a few weeks of anguish for the fans.

Not worried about losing Phillips as I still feel that he will not be first choice next season and will be used as cover.

I'd rather have him ahead of Osborne at CB assuming Bennett stays. Yes Karleigh had a great game v Luton and he looks like L1 standard but not sure about consistency. Think it would be better for both to have competition, although obviously if Scott's got a better player lined up then fine

That's the point. I fully expect that there will be 2 new centrebacks coming in - hopefully 1 will be Bennett and that Phillips and Osborne will be reserves.

Bennett has another offer, probably Cork City, so it's all up to 'numbers' now.

The same for Phillips too, it looks as though 1 year is on offer, but he wants 2 year deal.

Cork City may not be in business come this time next week as they are facing a winding up order brought by the Revenue.

Chances are though that Cork will survive but I would very much doubt they would be able to make an offer that Bennett would find acceptable. In any case Bennett has previously stated that he doesn't fancy a return to League of Ireland football.

Cork will probably survive but the chances of benno coming back to city would be slim given the precarious situation financially,he has stated he wants to play at the highest level possible i cant really see him returning home his wages would only possibly be 800-1000 euros pw.

Could be sloppy journalism but I find the way he refers to the Bees as both them and we in the last two paragraphs interesting

For me its nice as when I am back in Cork people now know where Brentford is so I have helped to put them on the map in a way.

Haha!!! I have been putting Brentford on the map in Cork for years and years through my family and friends whilst on my hols there. Being a "Cockney Rebel" last season was great, especially with the Darlo goals coming from the Rebel men :sorted:

I dont get it..all season saying you want to stay and its not about money.
If he really wanted to stay with us same with Ben then wouldnt these have signed up by now.
If its clear in your mind you want to stay and lvoe it here then sign

Ben Hamer isn't 'ours'. He'll be fighting for his place at Reading i would imagine. But it all depends on who comes in as the management team there, before he can decide.

Reminds me a bit of the Heywood situation last year to be honest.

Mulling over means less than sure in my book, shame as he was my player of the year by far.

Would imagine Scotty is seriously looking at alternatives by now.

Doesn't sound very positive, and with Phillips not agreeing his offer it looks like it will be a brand new "back 3" for next season. With the 10 new players he said he wanted plus 2 central defenders there's gonna be a lot of work for Andy & Tel ;)
