Depends what they've offered but I'd assume it'll be well out of our league.

it would have to be more than he's on now otherwise he'd be available on a free transfer. My guess is that it's more than our top earner.

Hamer & Bennett

I think it would have been better for Brentford if Reading did go up........they've have been very good to us recently and no doubt we will need a favour or two in the future.
The only reason any club is "good" to another one is because it suits THEM, nobody does anyone else "favours" any more. Niceness in football ended around 1959, now if Gillingham join Reading as play off losers, that would really make my day!!!

Hamer & Bennett

Well I remember when we offered Kuffour the best deal and that was belived to be £3k.
Kevin and Brown wouldnt be on as little as £1.5k.
My guess is that players like Elder, Williams, Phillips are on about £1.5k

The only comment I will make is that most of this user's posts on here have been well wide of the mark. :)

Hamer & Bennett

can we all just agree that we have a small playing budget! i do think that bennett would be worth 3k a week tho

Hamer & Bennett

Who pays! :fishing:

It might be a good idea Mark if you showed those wage average in Championship/league1/2 just to put these silly post to bed:sad::(

so you'd throw 15% of the playing budget at one player. I'm glad you're not the manager.

Hamer & Bennett

Ok i seriously doubt Kevin is on less than £2k.
And many people have said Brown is highest earner which must be 2.5k and wouldnt suprise me

Oh FFS, I'm not even "in the know" and I know this is total rubbish.

Hamer & Bennett

If you look at the media a lot of Div 1/2 sides are really downsizing their playing budgets...more I would say than normal. This will create a downward spiral on wages and squad sizes.

Darlington are showing that if you go to the brink there isn't necessarily going to be someone in this recession to come to the rescue and sadly it seems the end is in sight for them.

I get the impression that our top wage is around £1500 per week, apart from those at some of the "bigger" clubs like Leeds I would imagine if any player can get more than that in Div 1 he will be doing well.

Can't you read!!

I give up, live in your fantasy world, if you have a squad of 20-24 players and a budget of £1 mill to £1.2 mill, you work out what each player averages.

Hamer & Bennett

Hamer & Bennett

the budget will increase next year

are you the new FD of BFC then?

BFC made a LOSS of approx £500K last season and the seasons before that. BFC are approx £9mill to £9.5 mill in debt. How long before we go bust if the budget was increased significantly? 1 or 2 seasons? You work it out.

You and BTD live in 'cloud cuckoo land'

Please don't let the facts get in the way of speculation but by my calculations the wage bill gives an average salary of 35k.

If we are paying any one player more than 60k a year I would be staggered.

I think you will find some players in the Conference earning that amount.

Hamer I believe was offered a new contract in January and may well have signed it. My understanding is he has another year left now.
What happens now might depend on who is their new manager.

My understanding is that he is out of contract in July and that if they got into the Premiership he would sign and go back out on loan to, probably, us.
If they stayed in Championship he would stay and could be first choice next season all things being equal and if Coppell stayed.
Either way he will either sign for Reading or Reading will get money for him so lets hope he signs for Reading and the new Manager sticks with Hannerman or the other two keepers who are ahead of Hamer at present.

If he leaves Reading he wont be coming here unless a mystery benefactor agrees that he is worth the investment I guess!:fishing:

Hamer & Bennett

I'm only making an educated guess but I reckon our budget last year was about 1.2m, think we'll need at least 1.8m to compete at the top of this league.

Hamer & Bennett

Just on Skysportsnews. Bennet released, Hamer offered new deal. marcus hahnemann released too so maybe first team football for Ben Hamer next season

Hamer & Bennett

If Ben does stay at Reading then I wouldn't mind seeing any of their keepers on loan. Andersen would be great!

Hamer & Bennett

Theres no way Hamer will be first choice at Reading. Hopefully he will want to and be allowed to return.

Hamer & Bennett

Maybe Hahnemann might fancy a year with us on a nominal wage!

He'd have to compete with Andersen and Federici. I like to think we have a good chance of signing either Hamer or Andersen on some sort of loan.
Simon Brown's contract decision will affect it as well.
Maybe AS has a young, non league gem up his sleeve and wants Brown to provide a bit of experience in the keeping department.:fishing:

He is currently third choice it seems and that assumes the new manager doesn't go and sign another one. Might be he goes on loan elsewhere to gain wider experience but I cannot see him being happy being a squad member at Reading next season.

On the other hand if we don't get him back I wonder if Scotty will risk a rookie in Div 1 and may go a more experienced number one this time.

Behind Andersen?

Hamer & Bennett

I like the idea of a expirenced keeped and Anderson (loan) being his number 2

Hamer & Bennett

Behind Andersen?

I get the immpression so, Anderson is highly thought of.

It could be Hamer can fight his way into being number two I suppose.

Difficult choice for the lad, he is virtually guartanteed number one spot with us.

this is a ridiculous comment - Im guessing you arent referring to simon brown as the experienced number 1? well hes been offered a new contract - where would he be left under your plan?

And as already said, Anderson wouldnt come on loan to be a number 2!

Hamer & Bennett

i think it depends on whether the new manager brings another goalie in as reading's number 1

Hamer & Bennett

Thanks for everything Ben! Good luck at getting that top spot!

Hamer & Bennett

I wonder where this leaves Anderson? Very good keeper from what we saw of him, and I always thought he was ahead of Ben in the Reading pecking order....

Hamer & Bennett

It's going to be odd not having Hamer between the sticks. He's a real prospect, so sad to see him go, if true.
