Hamer & Bennett
according to the local paper in cork bennett will sign a 5 month loan once his one month loan expires

The big risk,of course, is that another club offer him a deal during January to take him on loan until the end of the season knowing that he'll then be available for free. Despite his apparent willingness to sign on at Brentford further I have a horrible feeling that another club who have been monitoring his success here might just nick him on 31st January.

seemingly alan wanted to sign for six months but clubs agreed 1 initally, he also maintains that bees fans havent seen the best of this brentford team yet this season.

Couldn't make it to Lincoln today, but from what I listened to on the Beesworld commentary, it seems today was proof, as if needed, that we HAVE to keep Bennett all season..
Defence sounded all over the place without him
With Philips/Osborne/Johnson as the 3 CBs at the club, we WILL NOT get promoted......

defence was abit of a shambles but horsfield is a clever forward and there winger was mustard.took 2 or 3 bees players to get the ball off him
We were weak and missing our strongman, we couldn't seem to clear the ball by just simply booting it away.

The Brentford career of Alan Bennett is typical of how a player can be God one season and a piece of poo the next (or vice-versa).
I think it's generally fair to say that he wasn't on the top of most lists to be playing for us this season because our defence at the end of the last season was just immobile and unpredictable.
However he has gone through a difficult early season and is now seen as a must keep for the run in.
The point is that I agree we need him to maintain our promotion push; if he went, it would be difficult to fill his boots but we have got other cover that might be just as effective given the chance (Johnson and Osborne). Johnson hasn't had a chance and does deserve one at some point whereas Osborne is the sitting duck with the price on his head if anything goes wrong. The worst thing about this is the more stick he gets, the more pressure he displays and his preformance is obviously affected by this because his confidence goes. If Bees fans think that is acceptable then it's up to them but it isn't going to help us to achieve our objective. What's more important - "I was right - Osborne is sh*t" or giving the bloke their support against their better judgement?
Bennett was brilliant at the later parts of last season!! very harsh.

That's so wrong.
He was superb for a few games and then went all Mackie on us.
He went downhill, but he wasn't that bad!![]()

without bennett, we will struggle at the back. I went to the lincon game (a) and the halls, phillips combination at the back was awful...if scott wants us to go up and do well, he will pull his finger out and buy Bennett and Hamer too

At the end of today, hopefully we'll be more the wiser re Alan Bennett and whether he'll play anymore games for us this season.
We could put Osborne at the back to replace him if he does leave us

Superb news. Now if only we could look to sign them both permanently at the end of the season. Unfortunately that is unlikely to happen.
you never know if we are in league 1.
in regard to Bennett, his contract is up at reading so he will be a free agent. The championship is probably above him so we would be competing with other league 1 clubs, dont see why he wouldnt choose to stay here.
Hamer is more of a long shot as I suspect Reading would either want to keep him, or would demand a fee, maybe another season on loan, in a higher division, could be a good thing for his career development however? Certainly I doubt he will be very close to the Reading 1st team just yet.

And to think we were all worried when Leigh Mills went back to Spurs and Bennett was the replacement back in pre season.....
