Hamer & Bennett

Ben Hamer and Alan Bennett will be very good signings. I'd also like to see Jordan Rhodes sign, if not then Billy Clarke.

Hamer & Bennett

We must sign Bennett, he has been amazing this season and has been instramental to everthing we have achieved this year. Also, Hamer has made amazing improvements over the last two years and I would love to see him sign, but have a feeling he may go elsewhere.

Lets hope that Billy Clarkes head has not been turned by Roy Keane at Ipswich, and Keane doesnt rate rhodes. :)

Can't see both Rhodes and Clarke being regulalry involved,Keane might take a shine to one of them. So I'd be happy to sign the other or get Rhodes on loan at least.

I believe Bennett is on something like 4.5K a week at Reading of which we've been paying 1K. 230+K a year - is this something we can afford ? It comes down to the old chestnut of do plyers want to take a cut in wages.

He will not be getting anything like that on his next contract wherever that may be. I think Alan Bennett knows that, I also think he wants to be at GP. and he has been outstanding this season.MY bfc player of the year.

He has been superb for us, a 110% player who has given everything. I would be delighted if we could retain him and Hamer for next season.

Hamer & Bennett

We could afford 2.5k a week.
I believe that is what Simon Brown is on, so egt rid of him and get Gordon signed up

I thought that Brown was

a) one of the top earners
b) on a salary comparable with KOC

which I'm fairly certain is way north of £2.5K a week

You think Simon Brown and Kevin O'Connor are on more than £2,500 a week each?

Really?

I'm 99.9 per cent certain you're wrong.

fixed.

£1.5k a week more like. Even, if that. Might include 'clean sheets' but he has more chance of clean sheets in his hotel room than on the pitch.

If any Brentford player is currently on that figure - or anything approaching it I will do a commentary (if asked again by Markybee of course) in the buff - and believe me, you do not want me to do that!

Hamer & Bennett

I think £1.5k or in the region of is far more likely!

Still when Brown goes and Pead with him there should be a decent wedge over £2k to offer, although I'm sure AS doesn't want to use too much of his budget on one player.

I think the Bennett situation will be one of the first to be sorted so we shall see!!

To think this time last year we were cacking ourselves about Grimsby's 3rd choice centre half signing.

Hamer & Bennett

Well, Reading aren't going up. I wonder how this changes the Hamer situation.

Hamer & Bennett

Hamer will move up the pecking order at Reading if Coppell stays on as the squad will be re-vamped. At his age he's needs to be playing regular games, will he enjoy being a bench warmer for most of the season is the question if he's a no 2.
We know he has enjoyed his time with the Bee's and has a great bond with the fans and club but is that enough for him to sign say on loan again if the chance comes around again.

Bennett is one I think we could get.........but you never know

We have offered him a contract. Its down to us and whatever offers he gets. I am pretty certain (65 / 35) Bennett will be here next season

Hamer & Bennett

I'm nearly as excited about Reading not going up as Brentford winning the league, is this normal?

I think it would have been better for Brentford if Reading did go up........they've have been very good to us recently and no doubt we will need a favour or two in the future.

i agree and will coppell hang around now?

That's Hamer sorted for next year then. :( I wonder who'll be our keeper?

A mate of mine saw AS in Norwich yesterday chatting to some bloke in a Range Rover Sport with a personalised number plate .... he also said something about the bloke had just one glove on  :fishing:
Michael Jackson?

I am very disappointed to confirm that Steve has decided to step aside as our manager, but I respect his wishes," said Reading chairman Sir John Madejski.

"I would like to thank Steve sincerely for everything he has done for Reading over the last five-and-a-half years, which has been the most successful period in the club's history."

In his first two seasons at the Madejski Stadium, Coppell led Reading to ninth and then seventh, on both occasions missing out on the play-offs on the season's final day.

But in the next campaign the Royals were promoted as champions, collecting a record 106 points and scoring 99 goals along the way.

Reading ended their first season in the top flight only one place shy of a Uefa Cup spot, with Coppell earning the League Managers' Association manager of the season award for the second successive year.

PS Thanks Steve and good luck --- like AS, a top bloke!

Well I remember when we offered Kuffour the best deal and that was belived to be £3k.
Kevin and Brown wouldnt be on as little as £1.5k.
My guess is that players like Elder, Williams, Phillips are on about £1.5k

I think Reding losing last night will mean we wont get Hamer but as someone said hes out of contract an we make an offer up to him.
Same with Gordon Bennett

Hamer I believe was offered a new contract in January and may well have signed it. My understanding is he has another year left now.
What happens now might depend on who is their new manager.

Just about everything is wrong in this post including the statement "I think ...." ;)

Reading still do have a fair few keepers and as long as the Wally connection continues then maybe we will still be in there.

Hamer & Bennett

Interesting Chronnie article... he knows he has the guarantee of first choice here!

Hamer & Bennett

Bennett doesn't have any connections with Reading anymore does he?

what total bollox........................IMO.

The above posts will point you in the right direction............................

BFC have a budget of approx. £1 million. You work it out. Thats about £500k on 5 players by your figures.

Hamer & Bennett

:nono:its actually less than 400K

Really..............

BTD believes KoC and SB are on more than £1.5k, my 'estimate' of £500k was for those 2 on £2k and the other 3 on £1.5k. Let alone adding on the NI that the club has to pay. So by my reckoning BTD believes we have 5 players on £500k between them. Half of BFC's 'estimated' budget.

But who gives a ..........................

Hamer & Bennett

slightly regret booing him as loudly now

I do remember watching you boo from afar and thinking that you were the loudest, most violent and dangerously angry booer around as poor Wally walked up the touchline. In my eyes it was as close to bullying as I've ever seen at a football match. I hope that helps.

Hamer & Bennett

you missed my "butcher out" debacle in the Braemar Road carpark. Although that did get rid of that Keith Dickens or whatever he was called as well (he rolled his eyes as I told him, for the tenth time, that Butcher needed to communicate with the fans, before resigning two days later to go to Franchise FC)

thinking about it downs might well leave reading now too

and also if Hamer has a June deadline for his new deal, let's hope Reading fanny around naming a new manager so that he comes to us instead

Hamer & Bennett

Could all work in our favour, Reading will be some time in getting it all sorted. Seems like Hamer is actually out of contract if he has not signed his new one and may not want to wait and see if the new manager is going to let him challenge for the number one spot (quite possibly not, new manager , new broom and all that).

Meanwhile BFC make him an offer and virtual promise of the number one shirt, fans favourite/ hero status and league 1 footie....probably with a release clause if a Championship team comes in with an offer of £x.

No contest really

Which is all well and good until Reading ask for a fee as he is under 24 - then we have a problem.

Given that he's been offered a new contract, the fee presumably wouldn't be a small one either.
